Wizard of Odds Site Sold--Impact?

I know the Wizard of Odds is often quoted here...it looks like the Wizard hit the jackpot:

I look to the Wizard for outstanding information on gambling and I use this site to get a touch of Vegas when I am getting ready for a trip to help build the excitement...the information can lead me to new games; the stories told here give me a feel for those games.

 

I'm surprised it was only worth that little.

I imagine the impact will be more on the advertising and partnering side being tied into this company's online gambling sites. I doubt any of the existing content on the site will change or go away, and that is what most of us probably use it for.

 

Is it just one guy who runs the site? Not bad of a price if it was just one person.

 

Wizardofodds is a useful and probably well-trafficked site.

Wizardofvegas is just a messageboard/Lord of The Flies experiment and useless except for the value of the domain name. I'd expect they'll totally make it over from scratch.

He had a few people working with him, but not many. I think the main other person on the payroll is/was JB, who previously created the "VP Genius" website, which he sold. Hopefully the "Wizard of Odds" site doesn't go like that one. It fell into disrepair. But JB is literally a VP Genius though, he created the site's VP strategy maker, which I routinely use. JB also created a strategy for the table game "Double Draw Poker". I doubt the site will fall into disrepair either because the Wizard is planning to stay on as a site contributor. He just may have more analysis geared toward online casinos.

Members at "Wizard of Vegas" (including myself) are a little miffed though. Many of us recently donated to him to help out the site(s). Also several members are worried about things like email info now. In my case though, my main email that I signed up with gets all sorts of garbage anyway, so what's one more thing.

Wizard of Odds is most of the monetary value for sure, but Wizard of Vegas is definitely not worthless. Much of his recent material on the Wizard of Odds website was spawn from Wizard of Vegas. It has 45% of the number of posts of this forum and this forum has been around 7 more years maybe? Although I think this place exploded more recently. If they would just nuke the forum like they did Card Player, then I definitely never go back.

 

As far as I know the Wizard has been consulting for various casinos for a while now. I'm sure that site gets thousands if not hundreds of thousands of hits every year and is a way for whomever bought it to reach a vast consumer base. When you look at it 2.35 million dollars isn't allot in today's world for that kind of exposure.

What does one TV spot during the Superbowl cost?

Most of the advice and info RE gaming isn't going to change much.

 

They will likely keep the sites current content, maybe add a few things in the future... but it is mainly going to become a link farm for online gambling.

The Wizard of Odds site is ranked #1 in Google and other search engines for a lot of key gambling search terms and holds the #2 to #5 spots for a whole lot of secondary terms.

So the new owners are going to capitalize on that and put links to online gambling on almost every page, thats the only reason they paid that much for the website.

 

This is a very good point. The fact that typing a game's name into google leads to the site is a big deal. But the Wizard of Odds site is definitely weak on "slots" and "slot machines".
