So, my significant other and I are looking to stay off strip for a couple of days on our next trip. Keeping in mind all the off strip/non downtown properties, what would you consider to be the best option for all around variety. We want good gaming variety (especially craps), a good variety of food options, a few other entertainment options, and a poker room. We want all or most of these options to be on site or in close proximity, as we never have a car in Vegas.

Keeping this in mind, where would you recommend we stay?

I'd suggest Orleans for all those reasons. They have good gaming conditions, a large variety of restaurants, and on site entertainment in the form of a bowling alley and movie theaters...and they have a pretty active looking poker room as well.

Based on that nebulous "best" categorization:

Red Rock Resort -- Wynn-grade accomms in a newer "locals" casino with a great pool and spa, and an array of eats. Entertainment, concerts, bowling, theater. It's all there because it needs to all be there given the locale. One of the few places in town where a mountain-not-Strip view is the upgrade!

I recommend GoldCoast, only because if you get bored, you've got Rio and Palms right by.
If you want to get WAAY offstrip, then SouthPoint would be my recommendation.
Red rock isn't BAD, but it's a true destination, and on the weekend it gets packed.

Red Rock is a winner but Palms might be easier as it's a very short cab ride and quite nice property. It also has the advantage of Gold coast and Rio in walking distance (as Timspeed points out).

Yep. Really comes down to the stay portion of the getaway, what's desired or not. There are any number of mid-tier/nice off-Strip props, from Suncoast to Southpoint to Silverton. Then there are those a bit higher up the evolutionary scale, like M, Palms and GVR. And then you have one like RRR that could stand easily on the Strip with some of the show ponies.

For us -- that is us -- a nice getaway does not sing Gold Coast. And, yes, we've actually stayed there, several times. I'm not dissing the place whatsoever. It just is what it is. It remains a perfectly acceptable place to stay and gamble.

Rio has no hold simply because of the Strip-level gambling.

Whereas you will not have a car I would think Rio, Palms, or Gold Coast would do the trick. I'm thinking that you are also staying somewhere else as another part of your vacation when you say "So, my significant other and I are looking to stay off strip for a couple of days on our next trip", and if this is the case, it would be a cheaper taxi/bus ride to your next destination.

My vote is for the Orleans. The newly redecorated rooms (I think they're calling them "Premium Rooms") are very nice. There's lots to do there, halfway decent gaming, and a large variety of restaurants. Plus you can take the shuttle to the strip or over to the Gold Coast (and from there visit the Rio and Palms).

Not having a car is the big issue. The high ends are pretty far....Red Rock, GVR and M. South Point ( our personal favorite) Silverton and Boulder Hwy props (mid tier) would probably make you feel isolated. Going with Palms, Rio, Gold Coast, Orleans simply for the shuttles. Of the last 4 mentioned Orleans may have the better gaming.

I would strongly suggest Green Valley Ranch. Red Rock is similar and very nice too, but a bit isolated.

Great ideas from everyone. I'm going to take some notes and do some further investigating. Definitely considering a little more upscale. Yea, we'll be on the strip and downtown for the rest of the trip, but have wanted to try out an off strip property at least once. We are fine with isolation, as long as we have the gambling we need at our hotel.

Even when we stay on the strip, we tend to find ourselves playing and eating where we stay. We must be every casino owners dream!

My fav is the M, but given your requirements GVR would be your best pick IMO.
Gold Coast, Rio, Palms are not in the same class as RR, GVR, M and for me, would not even be classified as "off strip".

If you're a smoker I recommend the Gold Coast. Just got back. I was surprised at the size of the room - very nice. But the casino was too smoky!

You might consider the Palace Station it has 2 shuttles, One to the strip and back and the other to and fro the airport. Its tower rooms are nice and it has a variety of eating options. check its website.

agree and have stayed at Palms and Rio. Palms was very nice and had the advantage of a food court and less smoking in the casino and a rock and roll vibe. For Rio, we got a tremendous deal and had a fridge and a coffeemaker and you have the Gold Coast on the same side of the street. Rio has a shuttle to the strip, which is nice and they had a small amount of retail shopping at Rio. either are very nice, but different.

We didn't like the Rio. All the food options were expensive, staff we encountered weren't very friendly and it just wasn't a very good vibe for us. It's definitely more of a party hotel. We are very light drinkers in our mid forties. A hamburger at the bar was $25. Burger King upstairs was like $10 for a hamburger and fries. Dancing girls up on pedestals with blaring obnoxious music, etc. We took the shuttle to the strip several times. It's MUCH easier to get the shuttle at the Orleans and Gold Coast. Seemed like we had to walk forever just to get to the room. It's just not our style.

Gold Coast is very smokey. It's a cool, older casino and I've won quite a bit there on dollar slots and roulette. We have a free room there this trip that we'll take advantage of and hopefully win big before we head to the Orleans. Planning on taking advantage of the movie theater, spa and bowling at the Orleans this trip as my husband doesn't like to gamble. It's also a hotel I feel very safe in going downstairs alone at night to play, the buffet is always reliable and good. (We love all the shrimp options and the desserts there.)

Just another vote for GVR. Beautiful destination, amazing rooms, they do have a shuttle to the strip if you need it. The connection to "The District" adds some more food and shopping options. The pool area is gorgeous.

Considering your criteria, I'll recommend RR or GVR. Both have some shopping nearby if you get bored, large casino floors, many food options including a food court, laid back and beautiful.
