Is it still playing the very loud music? Are the specialty coffeemaker still in the rooms?

The music (both live and recorded) is quite loud throughout most of the day (and night) but if you're staying here you can request a room on a high floor facing away from Fremont and you won't hear anything at all when trying to sleep. The in-room Keurig coffeemakers were removed early this year, but there's multiple options to secure coffee in the hotel and steps away out on Fremont. The D may not be my favorite place to stay, but it IS my favorite place to play. The vibe/energy here is beyond compare!

I just got back from Downtown 2 days ago. The music was still loud and the girls were dancing. Personally I really liked it, thought it gave a fun environment.

Guess I am getting old. The music needs toned down a touch. I enjoy talking to the BJ player next to me and that isn't possible
except in High Roller room. Where the ceiling is so low that the smoke drives my wife out to the street.

But I know I am getting older, if I want to see girls dancing I will go to a strip club or take the wife back to the room. LOL

The music was loud our trip in August. The second floor and the northeast corner lower floor slots were fine. Drink service on the second floor was great, the northeast slot part, buy a drink before sitting down.

We just got back from the D last night. The music isn't terrbily loud during the day but it's fairly loud at night. It didn't bother me personally but having an easy conversation in the evening is a challenge. you can talk much easier during the day hours but you'll have to speak up. Playing at the D is more of a party and less of a causal BJ session. I can see where someone wouldn't care for the experience.

The D had the best drinks of any property downtown. They comped premium liquor and the drinks were strong. Cocktail service was generally pretty good.

I must go in a zone, cuz I don't even notice the music. When I stay downtown I always wander over to the Fremont Casino for coffee and donuts at Dunkin' Donuts.

I didn't have any issues with the music back in April, but I was there during the day. I did have an issue with the service. I was at the craps table for about 2 hours, and might have had about 2 drinks.

The drink service at the D, at the Sigma Derby table, was the best I've recently seen. They were literally coming back faster than I could finish them. If I were driving, it would be a DUI summons just waiting to happen.

Over the course of 4 days we only had 1 session where it was non-existent. Overall it was adequate to pretty good. The D was the only place that would comp premium liquor without batting an eye (only downstairs). We were there Sunday-Thursday so maybe the slower days of the week would explain the difference in our experiences?

The service was good upstairs but the big difference was they wouldn't comp premium liquor and at first insisted that it had to come out of the gun. I had been ordering mostly doubles (downstairs) but was shot down upstairs by the first waitess who said the drinks can only come from the gun. On another day a waitress said they're only supposed to come from the gun but she could ask for a long pour and her drinks came back fairly strong. Any time I'd play Sigma Derby after that I'd ask nicely for a long pour and didn't get any more grief. I was slightly suprised that they comp anything while playing Sigma Derby.

You guys are talking about the floor upstairs not the bar, I assume. Because the bar has comped Absolute, Crown and Tito's when they had it.

Yes, just the slot floor not the bar (View bar?). I didn't play at either bar at the D. My drinks were either comped from playing blackjack downstairs or playing Sigma Derby upstairs.

Honestly I was happy they were comping me anything for my quarter at a time Sigma Derby races . It was only noticeable because of the stark difference between upstairs and downstairs. I was tipping a dollar a round and the CW's were coming around quite frequently.

Sigma Derby has to be the absolute best for getting the absolute best drink service for the minimum risk. You can do one race, one quarter every 2 minutes or so.

So true! The only reason I ended up there a couple of times during my trip was beacuse I got man handled pretty bad at the D blackjack tables. I headed up stairs to take a break and play some sigma derby. At only a quarter a race it was a slow lose and the drinks kept coming. I think Sigma Derby is an absolute blast for short sessions if you're looking to play slow for awhile.

It's a lot of fun if you have a group. My first session all of the spots were full and people were standing up cheering as the horses neared the finish line. It was slightly less exciting when I was sitting by myself later in the trip. Still, it was a fun way to lick my wounds after another blackjack beating and the CW kept coming around. I think the smaller size of the D's gambling floor upstairs really helped since they could make the rounds much quicker.

Between aaisack and you guys I'm wanting to try Sigma Derby, especially if the drink service is ok. It takes quarters, right? How much is each bet?

Music is loud, dancers on the casino floor, but it is one of my favorite places to play craps and the comps are good.

It takes real quarters and only quarters. There is no slot for dollar bills. There is a cage 30 feet away that will give you quarters if you need some. The minimum bet is .25 cents but you can actually bet more (in quarter increments) if you're so inclined. It's kind of weird to figure out at first. You're betting on which 2 horses will finish first. My first handful of races I was confused because I didn't realize that it had to be exactly the 2 horses.

I have no clue what the house edge is on the game but at a quarter for every couple of minutes, i'm not sure it matters.

    EDIT:
I just looked out of curiosity and the house edge is around 10-20% depending on where you read. 10-15% seems to be the popular consensus.

LOL, last trip when I was there a lady next to me asked me where the bill slot was. :) :) :)

When I go up there, I often stop at the change machine at the bottom of the escalator and change a few dollar bills into quarters.

I've wondered this too. I am convinced that it is the lowest expected loss per hour of any game in LV.

I've had the best luck choosing the next-to-favorite and/or the next-to-longshot. You really need a good shot of dumb luck to come out way ahead on this.
