WestJet to Start Charging for Checked Bags

Guess I'll be looking into all those threads posting advice on how to travel using only carry-on baggage. Shame on you WestJet!

 

Oh no! I loved them for not charging. Shoot-guess I will have to pay.

 

WestJet has the best travel times for us going to Las Vegas (10:30AM departure, arrive in Las Vegas around 1:15PM) and usually has some of the better fares as well, though we usually fly another carrier on the way home.

Personally, I support baggage fees and won't have a problem paying when we check bags.

Same as most. Have only needed carry on for westjet and Air can flights. You can do it!

 

I am surprised that all of the airlines do not charge baggage fees. It is a very lucrative amount for those that do.

 

my wife works inflight for westjet, they are not impressed at all!! there is not enough room for carry on right now. its just going to be hard trying to find room for all the extra luggage on board.On a different take, the stock went up over $2 yesterday

 

But damn the inflight magazine is good on WestJet. :wink

 

I understand why Westjet wants to charge for baggage. Extra charges are a huge money maker for airlines. I personally always check a bag. I don't want to be bothered with dealing with baggage and the overhead bins, plus I tend to do some shopping while I'm in Vegas.

Wheels and handles included is pretty much the standard. I think that the majority of bags people bring as carry on do not conform to the specified size restriction. Rarely do I see carry on bag size enforced. My other pet peeve for people with carry on............put your carry on in a bin close to your row. If you are in row 35, don't try to stuff it in the bin at row 4 just because you were one of the first on the plane.

I understand people not wanting to pay a baggage fee. If your trip is short, you can probably manage to fit everything in a carry on. It's the people that abuse carry on that I take issue with(bringing multiple oversized bags).

 

If airlines really wanted to make money they should enforce the sizing regulations on carry-on bags. The amount of people who would be forced to pay the fee and have there bags checked last minute would be huge
