Anything new at DTG?

Just wondering if anything else is new at the DTG after their improvements in the VP games?

1. Any new beer selections at the bar?
2. Any new Casino signage?
3. Have restaurants resumed somewhat normal hours?
4. Has the vibe of the casino been more upbeat?

I was just there, this past Monday, Labor Day.

It was early afternoon, the place was quiet.
The Daquire Bar looked open, but no one was there.
Some were eating in the S-O rest., I had credit, but did not go in.
Open BJ tables.
There was now 9/6 DDB VP on the floor.
The center bar still had 8/5 ddb progressive.
I didn't notice any new beers or signage.
There were some new machines, but not as many as Gold Coast had.

Overall, I really wasn't impressed.
Fremont St. casinos were busier.

 

Was also there over LDW. They had taken away the external doors on the corner of 3rd and Odgen, presumably to entice people in. The blacked out doors made it look to some as if the casino was closed. Players at the tables but not many on the slots.
Ate in S+O and they have changed their menus. Late night menu (11pm-6am) was very very limited. My only option as a vegetarian was pancakes or waffles. Waited 30 mins for the food along with all the other tables. One woman was kicking off at her waiter because she'd been waiting so long. A manager came out and told her it wasn't a long time to wait.
I was a big fan of Downtown Grand when it opened, but decided not to play there this trip.

 

I am taking them up on a room offer for Halloween. I am not kidding by saying that both my wife and I get separate offers in the mail weekly. Weekly! This last offer came on the same day as another offer. We received FOUR pieces of mail from The Downtown Grand on one day. I would hate to see their postage expense.

I've read here that the rooms are nice. My wife didn't want to stay at the Golden Gate again. I hope TDG is still open Halloween! It's not too far to walk from there to the other downtown places. So they have that going for them. :evillaugh

 

Tip, how much play have you given them in the past? I think I've fallen off their list, but my brother was hoping I would get an offer he can use in Oct.
BTW, rooms much nicer than GG.

Last Halloween we met some friends there. We both played a little VP at the bar. Very little.

Then we all played craps. I bought it for $500. $5 line bet, two or three come bets, full odds (3/4/5) We played for an hour or so. I ended up losing $400.

That was the extent of our play.

She gets the same room offers. I get $40 or $50 free play offers in addition. This offer I took them up on also includes free entry into a Blackjack tournament.

 

Why, oh, why do they have those stupid HALF GLASS showers??!?

I also, have been getting offers from them almost weekly.
SInce I played "a bit" last week, I'm sure I'll be getting more now.

 

I just returned from vegas and stopped in at the grand, it was slow but not dead, played alone at a BJ table, midweek early afternoon, $15 table - way too high in my opinion. Did not feel the desire to return.
A very nice casino that is missing something...people. By the way, the very dark front doors do make it look like it's closed, cant understand why they dont open them or put in clear glass?

 

Last week I got a mailer for discounted rooms, no resort fee, $5 FP, and some $ dining comps.

 

Yes, my mailer had no mention of the resort fee either, but when I got the confirmation email it was mentioned.
I still have not called them to question it.

 

Quick question. Has anyone stayed at the DTG using Hotwire or Priceline? It does not list a resort fee, so I am wondering if anyone who has stayed was charged it anyway. All the other hotels list it.....

 

I finally called them to see what was up with trying to charge me the $18 fee for my comp offer.
The guy said that the girl must have used a standard template for that letter. "There will be no fee for any free room offer."
I asked him to send me an email confirmation of that anyway! lol

You have to pay the resort fee at properties that charge them if you book through Hotwire or Priceline. They have fine print that says there may be other fees assessed by the hotel. Priceline was sued over this a couple of years ago and won because of their fine print disclosure. Seems like BS since if you are bidding through Priceline you don't know where you're going to end up and the bid is not refundable. Being a bit ridiculous, you could end up in a place that accepts a $10 bid but has a $100 per night resort fee!

 

Thanks Mark. That really is BS. On hotwire, it is really obvious that the hotel is DTG, but does not show a resort fee, or have any mention that there might be one. The Plaza, Golden Nugget, and D all show their resort fee clearly before you book.

 

Front desk lady told me some offers have no resort fee and some have them.
I personally like the Grand. The employees are the best. I have only met one that wasn't.
Friendly and act like they appreciate your business. Late night meals are slow because they offer room service
out of the S&O so that slows them down at times.
They also have good BJ rules IMHO

 

I'd like to book a grand suite. Anyone stay in one? The web site doesn't list them as an option though.

 

Just got a DTG mailer. Three free nights, $40 of free play, and $25 food credit. No mention of whether the resort fee applies.

The front says they have improved their video poker pay tables and now offer 99+% payback. Hopefully it lasts til we return in early March. Didn't they do this once before, but keep it for only a very short time? When we played there in December the best was the 8/5 Bonus Poker. I like the atmosphere of the place, and it would be great if they could settle down for awhile.

 

Why do they still have the industrial looking toilets

 

i played there in Dec. also and 8/5 BP 99.17 was the best. Last time I checked they still had it.
