Plaza, The Cal., LVC, and Downtown Grand comes to mind Downtown. At the Strip it's not as bad but some of them have dimmer lighting levels. Like the Mirage and T.I.

For me, I like bright, airy, lively casinos. That's why I like MSS, or Orleans for example.

Why do you suppose most casinos are dark?

Great question... my guess would be that a darker environment is more conducive to hunkering down and hangin'-out awhile, where as an open, lighter environment would make one feel more like moving about, perhaps even outdoors? I think a lot of us might be conditioned to be inside when it's dark and outside when it's light.

I figure it's for the same reason that bars and nightclubs are dark.
Inhibitions drop...one drinks more than they otherwise might.

It goes back to the beginning of Vegas and the same reason there are no clocks in casinos. They don't want you to know what time of day it is. Although The Plaza overdoes it. That place is just grim.

Never thought of these reasons as to why they are dark. Makes sense. But I still like brighter casinos. And the ones I like seems like they are doing pretty well too. Thanks, guys. By the way, which casinos do YOU like, or does it matter, lol!!

I mean, do you like dark or lighter casinos.

I like the lightning in Venetian and Palazzo for the most part but don't really mind the darker places like Aria or Mirage.

I do like the lighter ones... didn't Wynn make a big a deal out of "breaking the mold" when he designed the Wynn/Encore. I seem to recall him commenting about being able to sit next to a window and play or something to that effect. That said, there's no substitute for the sleazy feeling one gets from goin' into a dive-bar type joint at noon for some VP, cocktails and conversation and crawlin' into a cab around 6 p.m... all in moderation of course!

Where can you play and sit near a window at Wynn? Or even within view of a window? I've never considered it to be particularly bright in there. Tropicana is the brightest casino I can think of. Too bright in my opinion. I feel that Mirage and Luxor are really dark.

Another reason to keep casinos dark is that most people aren't too attractive and bright places just make that more apparent. If you've ever been at a bar, lounge, or club at the end of the night and they turn on the lights everyone drops down at least a notch or two in terms of looks.

I guess I like the darker casinos, I really enjoy the amber colored hue in the Bellagio though, and that is fairly bright but then again I really enjoy the architecture in there too.

Especially appreciate a darker sports book so I can see the screens better. As I recall the M's book is pretty dark, and Paris on the Strip.

Wynn surely doesn't follow the beaten path. He's always pioneering his own!

I concur that sports book looks better and works out better when the lighting is dark.

I always found it fascinating to go from the Stardust (quite bright) to the Westward Ho (dark).
Loved both places, but the brightness level of each was quite a contrast.

These days, with most of my play occurring downtown, I've noticed that the only brightly lit casinos are MSS & DTG.
Stayed at Gold Coast last trip, and it was bright.

The only impact it has on me is with my aging eyes being able to recognize the cards quickly...easy in a bright casino, not so much in a darker one.

Every element of a casino is managed to maximize profit potential. That is also why most casinos have no clocks, no water fountains, slightly depressing piped music, and very few straight passageways. There are some good banks of games in more pleasant locations near doors in some casinos (Palms and Red Rock are two examples).

Not too light, not too dark, maybe right in between - but I think MaBay's lighting is perfect for me.
