Downtown VP players

What DT casinos have you VP players had the best luck at lately? I understand about which places have the best paytables, as I'm a DT vet.

But I haven't been since last Oct, so I'm looking for hotspots--even locations of machines. I stay at 4Q, and the bars there, plus the one upstairs at the D are some of my faves.

Any help appreciated!

 

Really impossible to reply to that question. It is all determined by the random number generator. Over the years I've had hand pays at Cal, MSS, GN and 4Q. I no longer play at GN because of the bad paytables.

 

I agree about GN, Joe. Lousy paytables and bad vibe.

 

Funny story...maybe about 10+ years ago we wandered into the Nugget and the first bar inside the front doors, used to be called something like the 42 beer bar. Anyway, only one bartop seat available so I tell my wife to take it and I'll just have a Anchor Steam and watch. The progressive is at $1,500+. Three hands in, she hits the Royal. You wouldn't believe how fast that bar cleared out. But also one of my complaints with GN was that it took almost an hour to finally get the handpay.

 

Well, I can tell you what casinos I had the best luck at when we were there the last week in July. MSS, Cal, 4Q, a little luck upstairs at the D and I hit my first Vegas RF (hand pay!) at Fremont. But just because I had good luck at these places doesn't guarantee wins for anyone else. I did play some at ElCo, but nothing was happening there for me. I can tell you that the Diamond Head machines at the Cal were very kind to me and yes, the front bar at the 4Q was good to me also! Good Luck and have a lot of fun!!

Tell you what, as much as I hear about ElCo, I've never had anything in there. And the mood in there always seems a little down to me. Really not sure what the fuss is about. Thanks again!

Just got back and played a little at almost every downtown casino. Hit quads twice at El Cortez (go past the Parlor bar, turn right and their is a smaller room that has some nice pay tables). Binions is really good to me. I get comped well and they have a bonus game that you get to spin for if you earn points during that day. Four Queens still has great pay tables, Plaza and Vegas Club are both improved recently.

 

I think MSS gets the edge here because when you get a 4OAK or better, you get a scratch card where you can win up to $5000. Granted that 99.9999% of the cards are $2, they do add up if you are on a winning streak. At a minimum, those $2 cards can at least fund your drink tips. Also, the people at MSS (including the players) are really nice.

 

I agree, Greg. MSS always has a fun, friendly atmosphere. I find the Cal much the same, but maybe a bit subdued. Went on a run there at the main bar a couple trips ago, so I have s soft spot.

 

Yup, if you're a dedicate low-roller, MSS is great...if you play 25c 9/6 JoB for $10k per day, you'll do WELL (including the scratchers, it makes 25c 9/6 JoB a 99.9% game, include all the comps and it's a decent game)

 

Ignoring paytables, MSS is my favorite to play. Great atmosphere, scratch cards and micro brews.
4 Queens has great drinks service and good games. Only uprights though.
Downtown grande has 8/5 BP and is a nice place to play. Very modern but a little quiet.

 

Hey Kiwi, what do you mean only uprights at 4Q?

 

I was wondering that myself. All the bars have bartops with decent paytables. At the dollar level: 9/6 DDB & Job.

 

I think he is refering to the 10/7 DB games, which pay >100%. The $1 and the $.25 progressives are all upright machines.

They don't have any slant machines only uprights. Slants are much more comfortable for me. MSS has them!

 

Slants can be comfortable, but they can also be annoying if they are parked under floodlights. I ran into many examples of this on my last trip. The biggest offender of this is, is The D. They have a bank of DDB .25 slants upstairs and the glare from the lights above the machines are really hard on the eyes.

 

Know exactly what you mean, Greg. That IS annoying. I normally play at the bar, for easier drink service.
