I was just in Vegas for a few days. It seemed like 90% of the shooters (or those under 30) were all trying to throw the dice so hard that they would stick in the back wall. I'm not talking about the odd shooter.....I mean the majority of shooters. There is no surprise that a lot of the time, the dice would land in the rail or on the floor. This did not have any effect on the shooter(s) that continued to throw the dice as hard as they could. Chips were repeatedly being knocked over, hitting stacks etc. I can't be the only one that thinks that the shooter hitting chips is never a good thing.

Have they all been watching the same movies where blowing on the dice, shaking them up and then throwing them as hard as you can is how it's done??

    chicken feeding

Yes...... aka chicken feeding......generally, I lay off these shooters and bet with shooters that have a consistent throw.....it doesn't necessarily have to be dice setters.....just consistent....

bingo, I almost never bet unless I'm shooting and if I spot a hot shooter, it's usually someone throwing softly and consistently the same motion everytime

They've watched too many movies. Shooters have to exaggerate the toss for the camera and people watching think it's normal.

I try to lay off sometimes...but then I am always worried I am going to miss a heater...so I bet on them and then cringe.

I like this post. It describes me exactly. The cringe part made me laugh because that's what I do.

haha...whats terrible is that I KNOW I shouldn't be superstitious but then the whole "hey man the dice have no memory" devil rudely interrupts the angelic "superstition" sweetheart sitting on my other shoulder and I find myself throwing out bets and full odds. And then the dice scatter, injure innocent bystanders and get lost under a blackjack table 20 yards away...next throw? SEVEN OUT. DAMN!

It is unlucky to be superstitious, but this one "works" just about every time, so no, you are not the only one that thinks that.

A buddy of mine was playing Craps for the first time, and was told the dice were supposed to hit the back wall...........however he took this to mean in the AIR!..........I wasn't present, but can only imagine the poor guy drilling the dice at the far wall, not to mention the reactions of the gamblers standing at that end.

All money comes off the table if I get this scenario. The more they tumble, the more sevens. Thats just been my luck, point-seven out or crap on the first roll.

I saw someone doing this just last week at the Mohegan Sun (local Indian casino).
We were all taking a step back with his wind-up because we didn't want to lose an eye!
Miraculously, only one out of his 10 throws went off the table.

Sounds like I am in the minority, but I am not superstitious at all, so it doesn't matter to me if the dice hit the chips, fly off etc etc.
I haven't noticed any difference at all in the outcome of the dice.

I don't even mind a slow table. As far as I am concerned, my theo is based on avg bet and time at the table, so my "meter" is still running when the dice are off the table.
This is the only reason I have a specific routine of setting the dice, not because I think it will change the outcome, but because it eats up time at the table, earning me comps.

I think a good craps game requires flow. If the dice go off the table and it has to be chased down.....and I've seen casinos that require a floorman to confirm that the dice that went off the table are good. 90% of the time, the shooter wants the same dice (I think THAT is overrated).

So, dice on the floor, late bets, people buying in or coloring up in the middle of the roll.......all affect the flow of the game. No one is going to be mad about a hot shooter being slow. I'm not concerned about + or - a few rolls/hour when a table is slower. I just think a consistent shooter with a flow to the game always seems to be better.

    Agreed on the flow.

A table that has a shitload of people playing the center bets can slow down the flow too...and it sucks when the table is cold and yet you have ten people throwing in three different center bets each it is grueling

The pain of loss is greater than the joy of gain. People perceive seven comes up more often after superstitious events because: #1 seven will always be the most common number on any roll, and #2 mentally you won't remember all those non-sevens as vividly.

Perfectly said. No different than the people that complain that they are always in the slowest line at the grocery store (or whatever), no you are not you just remember it more.

I usually hold back a bit on all new shooters. I wait until they roll 2 or 3 times before I start putting up more than the 6/8.I know "dice have no memory", but if they're wild, that 7 does seam to come up more often.

The best shooter I ever played was some obnoxious young punk who threw the dice like a maniac. He ended up rolling 13 points over an hour and a half while constantly sending dice off the table and knocking over chips.

All the rituals and superstitions that most craps players have are worthless and have zero impact on the fact that 7 is going you roll one out of every six throws. The only downside to wild shooters is that they slow the game down due to dice off the table or knocking stacks over. Their outcomes will be the same as anyone else though.

Guys, I am as supersticious as the next person, but let me say this. Wheather a person sets their dice, blows on them, hits the back wall, it just doesn't matter. You really can't control the dice. I play at a local casino in Maryland from time to time, and there is an old man that always counts total rolls and points hit, of shooters.

Some guy was throwing the dice so hard, that they almost came back to him off the back wall. The shot 32 times and made 5 points.

Completely agreed. I think the superstitions add some fun to the game though. I buy in to a couple of them and it adds some character to the game, I think.

I set the dice but not because I believe that dice setting is some foolproof system. I mainly do it because I am a rhythm shooter. I like to be in that zone and I have some rainman like tendencies when shooting. Always stand stick left or right...watch how the stick is bringing them to me so I can set them quickly...hand flat on the table...get the dice and line them up how I want them (usually flying V, mini-V or hardways set), set the dice exactly on the corner of the pass line...and shoot.
