Anyone stay here? My main questions would be is the area safe to walk at night? And how far is it from FSE? walkable?

I have to ask, unless they are giving the room away why stay there. Hell even if they are giving it away why stay there. Rooms are so cheap downtown that it seems silly to stay at the super 8.

Its just a place to sleep..I'll be taking the bus to the strip if I were to stay downtown anyway. Whats the difference between Super 8 or El cortz/4queens if you are simply just showering and sleeping? The reviews on that super 8 all seem good. Would be cool if downtown was walk-able to catch a bite to eat, then catch the bus to the strip.
Is super 8 close to Riviera?

You know what you are getting when you stay at a place downtown I guess. The super 8 is an unknown. And as far as downtown being walkable to eat, there are a ton of great places to eat downtown and the bus stops downtown.

I wouldn't walk it at night. I compared the prices of the super 8 to 4 queens, and other than the obvious reasons (having a casino, lots of other casino's within walking distance, lots of cheap eats, safe, etc) 4 queens was a few bucks cheaper IF you didn't go with the "prepay" method which is non refundable and non changeable (which is $36 or so cheaper for the latter)
Having said that, if you are paying for your room (and not using some sort of points from a loyalty program) I would definitely choose to stay downtown where it is safer and has more going on and its an easy drive or bus ride to the strip.
There are still a few hotels downtown that do not charge the resort fee :)

15 years or so ago, I used to stay at the Howard Johnson's, which is just a couple doors south of the location you're considering. I had a rental vehicle and business in the general area. Absent that, I agree with an above post... WHY? I'd guess the property is "up" to Super 8 "standards" whatever that might be, but the area is no picnic and really in "no-mans land" for anyone looking to spend time either downtown or on The Strip. You'd be south of Charleston, so quite a walk to downtown going north or The Strip heading south and nothing of note really in either direction. You'd pass by The Pawn Stars pawn shop heading downtown and maybe the OG Strip Club, Dino's Neighborhood Bar and Luv It Custard heading south until you got to The STRAT and then down to the SLS.

Many of the shady apartments that were south of Charleston and west of Las Vegas Blvd. were torn down or boarded-up right before the recession when there was some interest in redeveloping the area... BUT... there's still plenty of shady characters wandering that area at all times, especially after sundown. Many are just panhandler types and low end hookers and the pimps who follow them, but others are there to take what they can take. With the various hotels/motels downtown at what I'm sure are similar price-points, I think it's a major blunder to choose this property, unless you're into sleaze and sirens and then it'd be a great location. The Aruba next door has a cool little club in the front that is as "divey" as it gets and can be entertaining if you're into that sort of thing.

I've walked that area before at night. There is a strip club down the street (talk of the town), an econolodge, sin city hostel and other fleabag looking motels, thai and Chinese take out restaurant next door and Hojo down the street. There is an Aruba house (hotel) that tripadvisor says is probably one of the worst places to stay in vegas. Walking the area isn't too bad at night IMHO, the billboard for the wedding chapel (Viva Las Vegas) next door is probably one of the brightest I have ever seen, at night when driving past I have to put down the visor because the billboard is so bright.

That said, I wouldn't try to walk from that hotel to downtown at night. It's probably only a little over a mile to get to downtown but you have to walk around some questionable areas to get to downtown IMHO. Daytime shouldn't be too bad to walk to downtown since lvb has a lot of traffic during the daylight hours.

I know that others will tell you to go downtown to stay but sometimes hotel rates are high during convention season (like January's CES) and places like these might be an alternative. I have stayed at lower end places (Mardi Gras Inn on paradise road when it was a Best Western) and probably would stay there at the super 8 if the price were right (meaning real cheap, lol). I think it depends on what you are going to do in vegas, if you plan to go downtown to gamble or visit the FSE then it might be worth spending a few bucks more to stay in a hotel casino. That way you can step outside and find a lot of eateries, casinos and things to do in a safe environment. There isn't a lot to do in the area around the super 8.

Funny, I checked google maps street view. When you go up and down LVB around the super 8, the Super 8 signs disappear and reappear so I guess they changed owners when google was updating their street views. Even more bizarre, I was able to "walk" into the store and wedding chapel using google street view. These guys (viva las vegas) must have paid google street view to film the inside of their wedding chapel. Kind of neat though, I've never looked into these vegas wedding chapels and wondered how it was set up.

Heck, if you want to stay at a Super 8 and be close to the strip, there is the one right next to Ellis Island on Koval. Then the strip is for sure walking distance. I've never done it since I have my truck when we come to town but plenty of people here have done it multiple times..just a thought
