Celine Dion Cancels Shows Indefinitely

Due to the health of her husband and a throat condition of her own, Celine's show has gone hiatus under further notice. I just can't get a break on this show. This is the 3rd time my wife & I have had tickets and the 3rd time the show has been canceled.

 

I appreciate it's a pain, but if you do complain to Caesars Palace about it please don't be one of the ******bag's that is obnoxious about it. Celine cancelled her show, not the hotel and I'm about ready to start punching people for being rude to my GF because they booked a hotel room that was supposed to come with Celine and now they want a free suite and a round the world ticket to the moon as compensation. People should take it up with the concert organisers if anyone.

I'm not suggesting that you are like this, but I hear a lot of stories about people who should really be kept in cages.

 

I am so bummed. I just arrived in Las Vegas this afternoon with Celine Dion tickets for Friday night and shortly after I arrived I heard and received an email about the cancellation. I am certainly have no gripe with Caesar's since they have more to lose than anyone else affected. I am not staying at Caesar's Palace. I wonder if AXS will refund the ticket fees also, which were around $25. I'm sure both Caesar's and AXS have some sort of insurance to cover cancelled shows, but somehow I think they will probably refund the face value of the tickets. I still have plenty to do and experience while I am here, but I planned my trip around the Celine Dion show. Otherwise, I would have scheduled it during cooler weather.

 

Yea, this really sucks. And not the first time.

I am torn between feeling for her and the family and congratulating her for putting family first, and thinking she is just tired and changed her mind.

If the deal is the room and concert together, then Caesars should compensate for it. But I think Caesars should have a standard compensation already set. I like the idea of taking the face-value of the ticket off the price of the stay. People could either take it or cancel. Caesars would probably make out because people may gamble in lieu of attending the show.

 

They give away a lot more than that to get rid of the most obnoxious people. Me, I'd rather be a nice guy and get what I deserve rather than be known to the world as an asshole.

 

Please keep buying tickets.

 

Several years ago our Celine concert was cancelled (same sore throat) but it turned out great ... Financially. They notified us as we were filing into the Coliseum and everyone was pissed. Some even started screaming "refund" (like that made a difference). As we finally got back into the casino, I told my wife I was going to gamble awhile as she elected to go to the room ( we were staying at Caesars). That was the night I got the straight flush on the let it ride table! My first W2G and will always remember that night. Later I found cancelled Celine concerts happened quite often.

 

Out of millions of people there's going to be a wide range of attitudes from the most obnoxious to the most pleasant. Unfortunately, there will be plenty of people with less than a courteous disposition. C'est la vie.

A few years back we made the trip from Florida for a 4 night quickie... with Celine tickets being the main reason. The afternoon (of the concert) I received a text notifying us of the cancelation (throat condition). She ended up missing multiple weeks.

We got our refund, but would have felt better (and reconsidered buying tickets again) if they had offered some deal or % off for our inconvenience... especially since it was a same day cancel for us.

 

Nobody with any business acumen (or self respect) would consider verbal abuse a legitimate negotiation tactic.

 

How? As stated before, this happens a lot with Celine. It was one of the reason I was surprised they signed her in the first place. It's hard to give a discount on a show that A) will sell out on it's own and B) has a higher probability of cancellation than average.

 

Just said I would have been "happier" and "more inclined" to rebook... that's all (not that I was saying it would be good for them)!

 

Some replacement names have begun to surface.

Celine’s absence immediately started rumors as to whom might fill her shoes and walk in her footsteps. Many of the Asian arenas and theaters on Celine’s now-canceled November tour have already opened up for Mariah Carey, and she could be added to the open dates at Caesars.

There have been fast, reignited residency rumors for Adele and Beyonce, and there are already solid behind-the-scenes whispers about a return visit by Katy Perry, who thrilled high rollers at private Caesars concerts over New Year’s Eve Weekend.

Do not be surprised if there’s an announcement about Katy. Diana Ross, who will be at Caesars on Sept. 19, is already being encouraged to return for more dates. I’m also hearing of a bona-fide overture to Madonna.

Those are the first names in the discussion stage of keeping the lights on at the Colosseum while Celine is away.

The talk lately is who will fill in for her until she returns and all that, but I honestly don't think she is going to be coming back to Las Vegas.

Part of the reason she has said for her needing to cancel shows is to be with her husband while he recovers from surgery...

The problem there is: the surgery was 9 months ago. The time to be with him, to help him recover after surgery was a few months ago.

Then when you consider the guy is 73 years old, it doesn't look like he did any chemotherapy or radiation treatments after this last surgery, he has been battling cancer and heart problems for 20 years and he stepped down as Celine's manager in July... his health probably isn't doing all that well.

From that one could probably speculate that he is likely to be either dead or dying within the next 6-8 months, and whichever one happens either way she is going to be needing more time off and when he finally passes she will probably take a year or so off... eventually it is going to get to the point where she is gone from Caesars for 2-3, maybe 4 years. Eventually she will get back to music, but by that point, years absent from performing, it would make more sense for her to undertake a 2-3 year long world tour than to go back to a Las Vegas show.
