I saw a great deal for the Palms through Travel Zoo so I booked it! *

Been going to Las Vegas since the mid-90s and over the years have stayed on Strip, Downtown and even off-Strip at the Orleans so I know my way around but except for breakfast and 10 minutes of play in their casino about 10 years ago I've never spent any significant time at the Palms. We're excited about the restaurants/food at the Palms so took advantage of another Travel Zoo deal for Alize... also looking forward to trying Simon.

Any helpful tips from you folks who have stayed there recently???

    Thanks!!

    * I hope our stay at the Palms is a  and not a

I second the buffet recommendation. It's a good value. They also have a very good selection of full pay video poker if that's your thing. Last recommendation is that you can catch the free Gold Coast/Orleans/Ballys shuttle across the street at the Gold Coast.

Love the Palms....we stayed Palms Place last October. The staff is kind and engaging, guilty pleasure Chronic Burritos in the food court (get the double meat, enough for two), go see a show at the Pearl Theatre if there is someone plying you like. The acoustics are terrific, they have an Imax if you like movies.........only downside for me is the Book is a Cantor so I walked over to the Gold Coast.

See Oliver at the bar by the Book......great bartender and great guy to shoot the breeze with. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

Have a great trip.....good luck

I really enjoy staying at Palms; I'm spending a couple of nights there on my October trip. I like the "champagne brunch" at the buffet on Sundays. Definitely get a players card for discounts at the buffet and 24/7 Cafe. The 24/7 has an all day every day prime rib special for $8.99 that is very good. I had my last royal at the bar by the sportsbook. Love the bartenders there, very friendly and always remember me and what I drink....hmmmmm maybe that means I drink too much lol

There's an Earl of Sandwich at the food court now too. Brunch at Simon's is really good. There's a new place, Back Door Burger at the pool; haven't tried it yet but plan to in October.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I have a player's card but it's circa 1990s so I'll be sure to update it. Happy to hear the positive comments about the bartenders as they can really make or break a video poker experience. We have reservations at Alize and our Travel Zoo deal comes with free daily breakfast buffet. The selection at their food court sounds great! Will be sure to try Chronic Tacos and the Earl of Sandwich always hits the spot!

One quick question about the pool(s)...we're going Sunday thru Thursday so expect the pools to be dj/party-free...are there "free" loungers available? Last visit to Las Vegas was in May at the Golden Nugget and was pissed when they increased the price of the Hideout loungers from $20 to $25  It was either pay the price or sit on the concrete or worse, sit at the main pool among the hordes...that was my own personal tipping point when it comes to price gouging...mini-rant over...

...anyhow, our plan is to spend a lot of time at both pools and would like to hear your feedback! :peace:

stayed there April 2014. quiet, clean and great room! we started the day at the workout room! there is one at palm and palms place! very nice and pretty empty! lots of room. towels, water anda great view!the buffet was nice-went for breakfast and on Thursdays they have a deal for players club! ditto to players club! go see them first stop tons of offers ! read the signs around the casino! at check in on certain days after 4 pm, they had a free drink if you had to wait in line more than 15 minutes! we waited two minutes so did not get the free drink! found the parking garage
to be great and close to our room compared to other hotels In Vegas...EXCEPT for the night there was a concert and then the parking was awful!!! many of the restaurants were being rehabbed when we visited! Simon looked great and has won awards! I think u will like it there very much♥♥♥. :)

Alize is my favorite Las Vegas restaurant, and I have eaten at Alize too many times to count. Since you are doing the travelzoo thing, I would go with Maine Lobster, Sauteed Foie Gras, third course all sound good, Duck breast or rack of lamb, and Chocolate Decadence(unless you love souffles).

The view is top notch. The service is top notch. The wine selection is top notch. The cognac selection is world class. The food is delicious.

As paperposter said, the pool Sunday through Thursday won't be that busy. Loungers will be easily found.

You are at both pools? You mean the one at Palms Place? Palms Place pool is quiet and everyone inside Simon's will be watching you. The pool at Palms is the rock n roll pool.

I posted about Chronic Tacos, it is very good IMHO.

N9NE is a great steakhouse, get the lobster mashed potatoes.

Nove Italiano is good Italian and their black truffle asparagus was one of the best dishes I have ever had.

Pretty sure I have started some threads about Alize and Simons and posted pictures in them.

I've posted about the Palms here before, and what I'll tell you is that is my new favorite place. I LOVE it. Rooms are great and it's small enough to maneuver. I also think the buffet is better than average. My only complaint (I'm middle age), is that the music is LOUD on the week-end and you hear it very well on the 16th floor.

Thanks BackInVegas for consolidating your posts! It's really appreciated! :nworthy: (I love the "after" photo of the lobster bisque lol.)

I'm starting to get very excited about our trip to the Palms, Simon and Alize! Your suggested choices for the tasting menu are exactly what I was planning to have but will probably try the veal instead of the steak (being from Alberta any beef other that AAA Alberta :cowboy: beef tastes just "meh" to me...it's the corn vs barley feed I think) or lamb (we have a 1/2 lamb in our freezer). We're also going to try to get a wine pairing.

We're going to aim for trying both pools...our room booking allows us to use the "quiet" pool at the Palms Palace without a spa visit but now I'm a little worried about everyone at Simon being able to watch us so hopefully they'll find us boring as hell.

Our booking also comes with daily buffet breakfast so that will be handy and it's a bonus that it's good! All in all it looks as if we've made an excellent choice to stay at the Palms! We may never need to leave the resort! (...except for a trip across the street to the Gold Coast!)
