Table Games Cashing in chips at a different casino

The other night I bought in for $1,000 at Flamingo and cashed out even and they gave me 2 $500 chips. I took those chips to Paris and went to the Paris cage to cash them. Before she would cash them she had to make a phone call to someone. This isn't the first time it has happened with high denomination chips. Who was she calling and why? Couldn't she just have looked at my account, saw that I bought in for 1 k at Flamingo and therefore concluded it was reasonable for me to have the chips?

 

Typically, they don't like accepting chips from other casinos because it could be very easy for someone to launder money by passing off chips to friends to cash in. They have to verify that the chips belong to you and taking them off property to cash elsewhere throws up more red flags. The easiest thing to do is cash them out at the casino you got them from.

 

Maybe she can not "see" that information on her system.

 

That very well may be. And mind you I'm not complaining I really didn't care and expected it based on past history. I just would have thought that one CET property would have access to that info for another CET property.

Then last night I cashed out for $5 k at Cromwell, walked straight to the cage to cash out with 5 yellows. The guy there did the same thing, it sounded like he called the pit. Surely the Cromwell cage would have access to the play info at the Cromwell tables? Again I am not complaining I just find it interesting.

Usually if I cash out where they give yellows, the floor man will write a slip to take to the cage to make the process seamless.

 

Cashing in chips within the same company but different properties often require "permission" for the cashier to give you cash for them. Its not an abnormal procedure. This becomes painful and long processes if they are trying to swap out a chip at the table for a large amount also. Often takes so long, I wish they say no and tell them to go to the cage!

The higher end joints, will check players card and the system for the 5k and higher chips. If you walk over to the cage right after you color, they will not cash it unless the pitboss put it in the system or they call the pit to verify they gave it out.
If you have 5 chips of 1k each, they usually will cash it without a verification.

Surprise the casino would even accept the chips.
Never had anyone make a call when I cash my chips.
Maybe you look a bit suspicious.

 

Casinos do not empower their people to make these decisions on purpose. If there is going to be hanky panky, it is going to involve two (or more) employees of the casino working in a conspiracy. You can't even buy in at a table without the dealer getting permission from the pit boss. It's just what they do to keep and eye on each other. There is probably a rule which requires a second person's approval to cash in chips above a certain amount or denomination.

I hope some day to have enough chips to cause suspicion when I cash them in!
