How late can I check out, and not get charged extra

I know this is kind of a stupid question. But If I have no extra charges to my room, and it is comped, do I have to leave the room by noon. If I sit in there and leave if the maid comes in or just wait until 2 pm, will they know. Or if they do have a way of knowing, will they charge me extra.

You can ask for a late check out...but if you want to stay in there later they will know. I am pretty sure there is a housekeeping supervisor who has a roster of the rooms on the floor showing which rooms are due for checking out that day. They will send the maids there and if you aren't out they will confront you about it or let the desk know so they can charge you.

My last stay at V/P I wanted to stay later than the late checkout and they said they would charge me for the full night...

 

A lot of hotels are looking to score some extra revenue with early check-in and late check-outs, but as stated above a nice call the night before will usually secure a late check out, possibly up to 1 p.m. depending on where you're staying and how busy they're going to be the following day. 2 p.m. or later is pushing it IMO.

 

Depends on when house keeping passes by and if you would be imitated on how that employee handles the situation

 

At MB I called the night before and asked for late check-out and they said they couldn't give it to me but that I could ask again in the morning- in the AM they gave me until 12 (instead of 11). At MGM I called in the morning, they transferred me to casino marketing, they asked what time I wanted to check out, I said 12 and they gave me that too.

 

If you have no pull (no hosts, barely any play, etc.) then the latest is usually 12PM. Usually, they charge 50% of that night's rate if you were to check out between 1PM and 4PM then 100% of that night's rate if you were to check out anytime after 4PM.

 

Yep that's what V/P told me...they had a convention beginning that day and wanted to charge me. I was in on a comp offer but I understood.

This definitely depends on the hotel/casino, because if they have a huge convention arriving the day you check out, they're less likely to allow you a late checkout. However, I have pulled any number of the following to extend a check-out without being charged:
(a) Call the night before; if that doesn't work
(b) Call the next morning, right around 11am checkout time and say you stayed out late and overslept your alarm or you're hungover and wanted to see about a late checkout; if that doesn't work
(c) Wait in the room, mostly packed but with a few things still scattered about until the maids come. When they come, act frazzled and say you're sorry, you overslept. A lot of the time, they will move down the hall and clean another room or two and you just bought yourself another 30-45 minutes or more

Using these methods, I have been able to stay as late as about 3pm without any problem...and I wouldn't exactly say I've got a lot of pull as a green chip player.

Last time at the B, my buddy hate a really late flight (like 8pm) and asked about staying late, and they said he could pay a half day's room charge to stay until 4 or 5, I think. He stayed until about 4 and never was charged. Huge win for him!

 

This part doesn't matter.

You should check the website of the hotel where you are staying. At most places check out time seems to be 11AM and at a few it is as late as noon.

If you don't do anything and just sit there it is a pretty good chance that somebody from housekeeping will come in to the room shortly after the official check out time (probably within 30 minutes) - they clean most of the rooms of guests that are staying another night around 8AM-11AM so after that is when they start checking in on the rooms of guests that are checking out. You might get lucky if the maid working your section falls behind on cleaning the rooms for guests, then she might not show up until 60-90 minutes after official check out time.

What you should do is as has been suggested: phone down either the night before or the morning of your checkout and request a late check out. Unless its a Friday or a date near/at the start of a long weekend or a big convention you should be able to get your checkout extended until 1PM at no additional charge. If you specifically want 2PM (you mentioned that time) then you should ask for 2PM because if you just ask for a late check out and they say 1PM is fine and then you ask for it to be later they will probably say no at that point. I have had places let me check out as late at 4PM at no additional charge (Monte Carlo and Luxor).

If you are going to want a later check out than 1PM and you have done a decent level of gambling in their casino then what is best will be to ask for the late check out the night before - to go beyond 1PM they will likely give you a price for extending your check out, IE: they might say $30 to extend check out until 3PM or something like that. If you do this the night before and you approve of the extra charge it gives you a chance to go down to the player's club desk (or your casino host if you have one) and try to get that charge removed.


And one last thing: if this is just a case of your check out time is 11AM but your flight isn't until 5 or 6PM and you don't want to go down to the casino and haul your luggage all over the place you can take your luggage down to the bell desk and check it there for no charge and then go out and visit the casino or other places and then come back when its time to head to the airport. You don't even have to be a guest at the hotel to do this so if you were staying at Mirage, as an example, but wanted to go to Aria to gamble for a last few hours you can take a taxi from Mirage to Aria, check your bags there, gamble, have some food, etc and then when its time to go to the airport just go to the bell desk and get your bags and go.

Several years ago I wanted to keep the room 'til around 3 pm and was only able to get the usual extra hour for a 1 pm checkout at the desk. However, after playing BJ for a few hours, I asked the pit boss if he could arrange a latter checkout (presumably so I could continue playing). He made a quickie phone call and said I could have the room until 6! I think there could be a possible hint here somewhere.

 

For one thing you can check out of most hotels using your tv. That way you don't have to go downstairs to check out, especially if you know you don't have any charges. The problem with checking out that way (and checking out in general) is that the room is then "freed" off their system (made available) so the maids will usually come around and will try to clean the room when they are in the area. If they find you in the room the maid will probably call their supervisor or the front desk to see why you are still there, letting the higher ups handle "kicking" you out. They don't want to make any mistakes (it is possible that you are in the room for a valid reason) so won't confront you but will let the supervisors handle your situation.

If you are scheduled to check out on a certain day, the maids will also try to clean your room or knock to make sure you are out of the room. At many hotels one of the housekeeping supervisors will go around knocking on doors to make sure that the rooms that should be empty are empty.

Many hotels have a 11 or 12 noon checkout policy and it is up the individual hotels or supervisors or clerks to allow late checkouts. It is up to the hotels to allow late checkouts, not all hotels allow it. Probably best to ask in the morning or the night before to see about a late checkout. That might be better than housekeeping finding you in a room that should be empty.

I got a noon checkout ok'd the night before. But the morning I asked for a 2pm and flamingo said they were sold out that day so no dice. i just stayed in my room till 1pm and no maid came yet. Decided I pushed my luck long enough and went to the airport 4 hours early. Had plenty of movies and waited to eat lunch when I got there so it worked out

 

As in many things, the answer all "depends". If a big day - especially Fri and Sat morning - they need you out so they can turn the room. Midweek with no conventions they are a bit easier. If you are not actually checking out at the desk, you can often just hang for a bit. You could also do the TV checkout and they will at least think you left. The maids might be busy and will okay when you tell them you are about to leave. Second time you better be ready to leave. I think some maids/supervisors are on a mission to get everybody out. Others have a little logic and realize they are not going to get to all the rooms for awhile.

If on a comp, and a late flight - we often just get the room for one more day and then do not have to worry about it.

 

If I can't avoid a redeye, I either book the room for an extra night or try to at least get a half day rate until 6pm.

 

I've never been turned down by either a pitt boss or calling to the front desk and getting an extra hour (or 2) added on to checkout time. Kill 'em with kindess ...
