Spiegelworld Sues The Cosmopolitan for Sabotaging Vegas Nocturne

Spiegelworld has once again become the talk of the town, but this time, not for its masterful productions but rather for what is happening behind the curtain. The startling headline above is straight from a just-released announcement that alleges The Cosmopolitan sabotaged the much raved about, but recently closed Vegas Nocturne production. Here is the full press release, word for word:

The Cosmopolitan — the Sin City resort whose TV spots promise “just the right amount of wrong” — is all wrong when it comes to running its new nightclub, according to a former business partner.
The mega-resort, which is being sold to buyout giant Blackstone for $1.7 billion, was sued Wednesday by Spiegelworld, the production company hired to manage entertainment at the Cosmo’s swank social club, Rose.Rabbit.Lie.

They should have never gotten rid of it.

Still mad at myself for not experiencing this when I had the chance...several chances at that. Anyone know how RRL is without Nocturne? Was thinking of checking out RRL next weekend.

    Well, this just got interesting.

What I'd really love to know is how the entire venue was doing financially. We know the formal ticketed "show" was losing money, but we also know that the bar/restaurant side was doing reasonably well, and potentially even making up for whatever the show was losing, and the show and its performers were a huge part of the draw for the bar/restaurant. Depending on how well the overall space was doing, it's entirely possible that this is like firing the Cirque performers at Light (which, I know you hate paperposter) for not bringing in quantifiable revenue.

Ha, I know. Point being, they're part of the overall experience but not an independent profit center. It's probably not that great an analogy because people go to Light more for whatever DJ is playing there than the fact that there are Cirque performers, but the point is, not every individual element of a venue has to make money if the venue as a whole is doing well. I'm going to be very interested to see the court docs on this (I really need to figure out the NV e-filing system at some point).

Exactly. And my concern is that this might be like a supermarket saying, "We're not making money on milk and eggs, so we're not going to keep carrying milk and eggs." Even if that's accurate from a financial perspective, you're going to have trouble getting people to a supermarket that doesn't carry milk and eggs, and you're similarly going to have trouble getting people to a RRL venue that doesn't include the Vegas Nocturne performers.
