Why would you admit...... "I grooved the first strike for Jeter."

#1.....Does it "cheapen" the whole event ?
( this was a comment made by a co-worker - I can understand his point.
    .
#2.....Did the pitcher think he would be considered "baseball cool" for admitting it ?
    .
    #3.....Why re-cant it later,then ?......"I misspoke."
    .
#4......Just SHUT UP !!!.....and tell that story a couple years later.

The co-worker + I got to talking about the Mantle home run fed to him by Denny McClain.
McClain grooved a couple strikes to Mantle -- so he could break ( or set ) a total HR record.
Mantle knew it was coming --- I think the Detroit catcher told him it was coming.
But......the funniest part of the story comes next......
    Mantle hits the homer --
Joe Pepitone comes to the plate and raises his hand - letter high - over the plate.
Letting McClain know where he wanted it.
McClain decked him with a fastball.
Joe Pepitone -- what a character !:evillaugh Funny as hell !!!!

Inside edition had a big thing about the radio personalities who blasted Erin Andrews for her interview after the game. She asked the pitcher if he didn't like twitter as much since he was getting blasted for admitting he grooved it.

Nobody cares. It's a meaningless baseball all-star game.

I would agree, except for the fact that Hair-Brained Bud -- trying to demand meaning out of something that should exist purely for kicks -- has it that the winning league gets HFA in the Series.

Al Downing might have grooved one for Hank but I don't think he ever admitted it.

The reaction to Wainright is way overblown. The Favre flop to give Strahan the sack record is a lot more egregious in my book.

All said it was the last thing he wanted, to be known as the one that pitched.

    Agree.
BTW, if you go be rating, less care and MLB. The one's that do are older and dying off and the kids don't care as much.

Two things at work here, but disparate. The ASG should be a game. Laughs. See the best hanging out. The outcome shouldn't matter. No one ever retired going 0-0 in World Series appearances but brags about the six-of-eight he took being part of the NL/AL in the Summer Silly.

However, since 23 of the past 28 World Series have been won by the team with home-field advantage (mlb.com info), home-field advantage is not "'meaningless.'"

If you had those kind of odds in Vegas you'd soil yourself.

Seligs a moron. And a crook and no team owner should have ever been made the commissioner. Period. He took loans in the millions from the Pohlad family here in Minnesota and that all came out when he tried to contract the Twins. He tried to contract the Twins. The Twins!! Two World Series Championships in 4 years, 87 and 91 (91 WS is the best WS of all-time) and his excuse was they didn't draw. Well, neither did his own team the Brewers at the time, but they were never brought up, the Twins and Expos were though.

Commissioner could fix MLB doing a few things:

Pete Rose needs to be let into the HOF, NOW. They are going to wait until the guy passes away as some sort of weird punishment. Selig has a personal vendetta against the guy, and he needs to set it aside.
Interleague needs to go. It has ran its course and the fans honestly don't care anymore.
The All Star game should not decide home field. Say the NL wins the All Star game and the Dodgers have 90 wins. So they get homefield over the AL team that may have 102 wins??? That makes no sense. Should go by record.
Scheduled double headers. The MLB season is too long. Watch the WS, people are wearing winter coats and its gone way to far almost into winter. If you schedule doubleheaders and a fan gets 2 games for the price of one, it will draw them in.

As long as 80 year olds run things then don't expect much change.

So the old men who made these changes and decisions z is ruing were somehow flexible and open to change but this different group of old men running the game is not? So old is old except for the old that isn't old?

I've got to disagree with this part. I can hardly sit through a single 3-4 hr game, let alone two. But I do agree Selig is a moron and not sure about the crook part. I do know his daughter Wendy somehow ended up collecting all the parking revenue directly to her and not to the team.

Lastly, the stadium should have been built downtown, but Bud was afraid that would attract the "wrong element". It would have revitalized the entire area. The land was available.
