    Found this from another site:

    http://vitalvegas.com/shocker-classic-flame-steakhouse-el-cortez-set-close-august/

I'm guessing that the Flame wasn't doing as well as they wanted and the powers that be decided to bring the young crowd into the EC by having a night club in there. Looks like they are moving café cortez to the flame location and using that whole area by the current café cortez (and old buffet area) for a night club.

Not sure how that is going to turn out, many of the older patrons at the EC might be turned off by the younger crowd coming into the casino to get to the night club. Of course they could create a doorway outside so the crowd doesn't affect casino players but you know they want the crowd to go into the casino, hopefully to play some games and spend money on the machines.

Oh well, another restaurant bites the dust. Too bad some were decent places, like the greater moments restaurant at the lvc but I guess the Flame didn't bring in enough revenue to keep them running. Guess this falls under the "revitalization" of downtown, get rid of the restaurant to open a night club for the kiddies. Sorry for the rant, I usually like the EC but with the recent upgrades (resort fee, $5 a day charge for fridge in the vintage rooms and now this) I am not sure if I will be staying at the EC in the future, esp if the prices are comparable to the boyd hotels.

This might be wishful thinking, but what if the night club is for older folks. I could see a place that has a Sinatra singer, old time comedy, big bands playing swing, etc. This would have a chance IMO. If it's another kiddies-gone-wild kind of place,...well,....meh.

One that lets old fat people in for free but charges outrageous fees for young hipsters. I would spend money in a place like that.

I'm not sure how much longer -- or even if now -- that back-in-the-glory-days approach would really resonate. I just think it is too niche, that there are WAY more folks going to Vegas who might think Sinatra is a middle-reliever in Cleveland than a timeless icon. And iconography really only works with the icon, when you think about it, unless you're Russian Orthodox. 100 folks on VMB clamoring, "Do it, I want that," probably doesn't register in the tally of 42 million visitors whose average age is under 50. But I've been wrong before.

Sorry to see Roberta's/Flame go. We had many a crab leg there.

I had offered to send MRB or ACG coupons to anyone who could use them, but now I'm going to hang on to them in the hopes that the new "Siegel 1941" might be open in time for our November trip and that they honor the Flame coupons (like they did when it changed from Roberta's to the Flame). Sorry!

    Cheers,
    Kelly

Too bad it is a Vegas icon.
We had never tried it so I pulled up the menu & their prices are terrific! We are there before then, probably will have to make it a point to use that LVA coupon, and visit an icon!

I am deeply saddened by the closing of this restaurant. My husband and I loved it having eaten there every year the last few years. I was lucky enough to get a glimpse of Mr. Gaughan himself coming out of there in October with his bodyguards. I get the feeling they were just waiting for him to die to close the Flame. A nightclub in there is a joke if they think they're going to attract kids.

Sorry folks... it was just a matter of time. The Epstein girls are in charge now and the El Co is LONG overdue. Downtown's not just for blue hair's w/oxygen tanks anymore and the El Co ought to be getting their share. The whole Fremont East area is changing... I don't see the place giving Cosmo and Marquee a run for their money, but Vegas is about fun and makin' some noise, it's not about the 4 p.m. blue-plate special.

    True. That's why Laughlin exists.

This sucks. We have the filet there at least once per trip. Guess we'll have to give Andiamo a shot next trip.

If it's closing I'll be sad and I'm sure Jackie is turning over in his grave. If it's reopening as Siegel 1941 I'll take a wait and see approach because from the name it looks as if they want to still capture an old vegas feel. The Mrs and I use the ACG coupon every trip and we love the place, the steaks and the piano player.

That is great to hear (Flame reopening as Siegel 1941). Maybe management heard the uproar and decided to do an about face on the night club, or maybe that was the plan from the beginning. Or maybe the writer was just full of it and based his article on sheer speculation.

As for the EC moving away from the blue hairs, I seriously doubt that will happen (maybe portions will change but the main draw of the casino - gambling and specials will still be for the blue hairs IMHO). A lot of the EC specials are geared towards the gamblers and grinders (which at the EC are mostly blue hairs IMHO). They have their white castle burger Thursdays, the ability to order and eat at your machine, sportsbook and specials, etc. While management may think about converting and upgrading to try to bring in the younger crowd we all can look at the DTG as a reason not to do that. Yes, the DTG is off the beaten path but I don't think the EC management will want to shoo away the blue hairs since a lot of their income comes from that generation. While the younger crowd will party, have fun and make noise, they aren't the "grinders" and gamblers which will bring in the steady stream of money that the blue hairs bring in.

But this is all JMHO. I'm sure glad that the boyd hotels still cater to the Hawaiians and older crowd, with the steady charter stream I don't see them "upgrading" to bring in the younger crowd anytime soon. (resort fees maybe but other than the fremont I don't see the Cal or MSS going the party pit, loud music way, again JMHO).

You're probably right and I know you frequent that area of Vegas far more than I do... I just love the opportunity, when it presents itself to poke the downtown crowd :poke:

Hopefully, always taken in jest as intended.

Strangely, even after having stayed at the Cabana Suites, I had yet to try The Flame. I did try Andiamos last month and was not disappointed. Steak was awesome.

I was at the EC the last trip for single deck 3-2 blackjack. and the Casino manger offered me Dinner at THE FLAME. I had dinner at SW at the Wynn planned. I'm going back at the end of the month so I might have to try it before it closes.

Any recommendations? I don't expect SW quality. But hey this will be my last chance to try it before it closes.
