Where is the best place to play for beginners, cheap games such as craps, poker, roulette?

    On strip? Hooters.

Off strip - just wander round downtown and find somewhere you like the look of or The Westin is good. Tuscany Suites isn't bad either.

Hooters has low limits and a great vibe. Plenty of Vegas snobs will dismiss it but it's as much fun as Planet Hollywood when it's busy. It's just behind the tropicana. I have also stayed there a few times. Strip view rooms are just as good as any other non luxury hotel rooms and it's quicker to get to the strip than from most 'on strip' hotels.

Here are some pics from a tenth floor room. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Another place on strip with low limits is Slots-O-Fun by Circus Circus.

The Four Queens downtown has 8 nickel video poker machines, right in front of the Keno booth. They used to be full-pay, but have recently been knocked down a single peg. Also ... in front of the main cashier, there are quarter machines with full-pay 9/6 JOB and 8/5 Bonus Poker.

I found places like CR to be tough for beginners. The tables are crowded, the play is fast and generally confusing IMHO for beginners. The tables are cheap which makes it more of a draw for the public.

I played at magaritaville the other week, $5 tables. Before noon the tables were practically empty so beginners might have a good time learning the games (bj, craps) without the crowds.

As for DT, before noon most tables aren't that crowded. Afternoon and evenings could get busy though. At the Fremont there are $3 crap and bj tables. EC also has $3 bj tables although I noticed the craps tables to be $5 minimums.

Do the DT casinos bother rating you at the lowest minimums? I remember seeing signs at The D that they didn't rate play at the Blackjack tables upstairs near Vue Bar.

I can't say for sure (esp at the D). You can give them your player's card but if you are only making $5 or $10 bets you won't really get much if anything IMHO. A few years ago I played craps at MSS, making only $5 bets (not totaling $25 on the table), after a half an hour I asked the pit boss for a comp meal - she laughed at me and said that I needed to have $25 on the table at all times for a period of 3 hours to rate a comp meal! Nowadays it depends how I feel, sometimes I give them my player's card, sometimes I don't, esp if I know that I won't be playing long or only playing minimum bets. Not worth my time to play for a comp anymore. I sometimes get lucky on a hot table where I have bigger bets out and I ask the pit boss for a comp meal.

Well hell likes like any place..Had a Doc friend of mine go to Cr and said they were utmost patient craps dealers anywhere so guess it's hit and miss
Like anything else in life all a matter of opinion..Most beginners won't know if it's a fast pace or normal pace

I visited the CR a few years ago (probably closer to 5 years ago). A newbie couple were trying to learn the game and were mixed with the normal crowd, trying to ask questions to the pit crew in between rolls. You could tell that the pit crew were very busy and irritated with the questioning so gave short curt answers that really didn't help the couple. Eventually the couple left but a few of us told them to come back when it wasn't as busy or go to another casino when it was slow to get assistance. So sad, they looked like deer in headlights, the pace at CR was so busy and fast they probably didn't enjoy their first experience with craps, not sure if they ever tried to learn the game after that experience at CR.
