Binions

Was there for a few hours Tuesday and Wednesday. Pit Boss told us we would not recognize Binions in 18 months. Getting ready to do major overhaul. He said the new owners(?) wanted a higher end resort. Anybody else heard anything?

I can't see it unless they have their lease issues resolved. Binions sits on land owned by a bunch of different people which is a major obstacle to sinking a lot of money into rehab. In addition, they have asbestos issues to deal with before they can reopen the hotel. I would love to see something work out but there have been talks and rumors for years.

 

Maybe they just meant the casino. Which is good, because it certainly can't get any more useless than it is now.

 

As long as they keep their 'Motherlode' spin & win. I have a fine collection of Binions branded bungees and fanny packs at home.

 

Couldn't agree more....but I sure have some fond memories of playing single deck pitch, $2.00 tables, and getting comps just for the asking when Jack was in charge.

 

I always end up spending time in Binion's. I like it there....

 

I have so many great memories of the old Binions, particularly the coffee shop, and the NSUD Deuces they used to have on the floor.

And here's the part I don't get... Four Queen's business model is to give the VP player a good gamble with good comps and keep 'em loyal. And it works. And yet they own Binions, and it's pretty much VP hobbled.

 

Me too! It is my favorite casino downtown, and I spend more time there than anywhere else. I like their low budget old IGT slots. I like their café. I like their cocktail waitresses, bartenders, and drink prices. There really isn't anything I DONT like about the place, except the closed hotel rooms. I hope they leave it alone.

 

I'm surprised to hear people like it there. We spent a few hours in the casino there a couple years ago. You can't even get a bottle of beer comped at the VP bar; only little drafts. It's a definite low class place. I'd rather go to Ellis Island.

 

It is my favorite casino DT as well. Last trip I realized why. The MUSIC! Rock, not some rap Crap like the D, or lame pop like the others.

Drink service is great not watered down, and it comes in a glass, unlike Boyd. Plastic is low class.

The cash back rate, plus cash comps for food as well PLuS the motherlode spins bring my 9/6 DDB up to almost 100 percent. Days I get the 100 dollar voucher for the steakhouse, its more.

For a slot player, the comps come even faster and bigger. Meticulous records I keep of DW and my play all over DT over the last 5 years when I had to keep a record for getting my 30 percent hold back on handpays, show Binions is far and away the best casino DT for slot wins versus losses. I wont even play a Boyd slot anymore.

And we get offers all the time for 4 queens rooms via Binions. Never stay because of the lack of decent pool, and the rooms are getting shabby.

I hope it doesn't change that much, bit better BJ would be nice. No other place gives me more back for what I play DT. this includes enjoyment.

 

My fav downtown casino. Wish they would bring back 100 x odds.......they had the best craps game in the valley...

 

Binions is a great place. My wife and I spend at least half of our time there. It wouldn't be a trip to Las Vegas unless we get our picture with the million dollars.

 

I agree 100%. I don't get the different management styles. I liked the old school Binion's but the new iteration doesn't do much for me. I do plan on using the 2x points coupon this trip. Between that and the spin for free play promo I think the 9/7 DB game becomes positive.

 

All I know is that I hope it's true. The shuttered asbestos-ridden hotel is bad enough, but when I was there 3 months ago the back end of the casino was a depressing testament to Binion's downfall. The area which used to be the nerve center of the poker universe was just sad and almost empty. All of the poker tables were gone. The room looked stark and partially abandoned. Cheap t-shirts were arranged in racks along the walls as a part of some half-assed cheesy gift shop, and they also threw up a makeshift Elvis museum in the area. The table games were mostly empty and the casino had a lackadaisical feel to it.

Casino mis-managers like Binions and LVC utterly fail to realize that you have to invest LOT of money in your establishment if you want to get any money out of it! That includes a hotel refurbishment, a revival or re-purposing of any "dead space" in public areas and good gaming to give your hotel guests a reason to play on your property instead of walking across the street. Otherwise, it'll just continue to languish.

My 2 cents, like that they brought the million $ pic. like the motherlode card swipe. like the café . Don't like the brick stockade wall around it. DLike pink cowgirls $10. party pit tables, nobody playing on Friday 6/13 ,it is downtown right. DL that they mothballed a lot dollar slots.
PS on other posts. The T-SHIRT SHOP been there At lease 5 years now. AND who wanted to stay in a pink room.
( Or a slime green or orange room at DT Grand for MY rant.)

Benny's Bullpen still has a great burger.

 

I like the renovations to the coffee shop (bullpen?). It looks nice, like a separate restaurant now. They had a good selection of food at decent prices. Unfortunately you need to have a player's card to get some of the specials and those prices.

I'm not a fan of binions, I usually just use the casino as a pass through from the Cal to the FSE.

btw, binions now requires you to put some play in or eat at their restaurant to park for free. This is effective June 15.

And yes the Elvis exhibit is closed, stay tuned to see what changes will be made in that area.
