While playing UTH at Showboat yesterday, I asked the pit boss about the rumor of Showboat becoming an entertainment hotel and CET buying Revel as their 4th gaming prop and she told me that's not flying, but that Showboat was closing down June 15th. My mouth dropped at the news. I was seeing another table games manager later in the evening and asked her, and she was very taken by the news, wanting to know exactly who told me. She seemed really upset that someone would tell me that or that I even knew. But like a good company player she said that she hasn't read anything about them closing showboat. However, this week was her last week at the property and she was moving to Caesars.

Take it for what it is, hearsay, but it's what I heard and thought I'd pass it along. I sure hope this is false and Showboat doesn't close. I really like gaming there. They have good VP for AC and a great choice of table games for lower mins.

I did notice Starbucks is closed, the Crossroads is no longer 24 hours and some other things that are being 'overlooked' as indicators of that news being real. There was a great crowd there Sunday, but Monday was empty, still more than the Taj which was a ghost town.

I'm glad we used our free drink coupons at the Showboat a couple weeks ago.

There have been rumors that Showboat would get the axe for a while now and we've speculated about it on this board as well. Its always seemed like the most likely candidate for CET if they were going to shutter an AC operation.

But June 15th would be bananas! They haven't announced anything and that's less than 2 weeks away. What about everyone that has a reservation? It looks like you can still reserve rooms there. Its hard to imagine news like that would be relayed to the employees yet still not even a blurb about it appearing in any press at all.

I was there this weekend as well and noticed them training new cocktail waitresses on the floor. Highly unlikely they would be doing any hiring this close to a closing date if that was true.

They are letting the place get run down pretty bad though. Unless broken locks are the new way to use bathroom stalls, that is.

It's definitely showing its age. I hope it stays open, I like it there.

I have to agree. I think it'd be more publicized if it were only two weeks away.

Considering they have to give 60 days notice to all employees, I doubt it would be not in the press by now. When O'Shea's/Harrah's Tunica gave the notice, it was immediately publicized.

I don't think they would close until after my fickle friend, the summer wind, blows through town.

As for training cocktail waitresses at Showboat, i asked for a beer and got a warm, flat, 7 oz. Miller Lite. The beer was terrible, and such small portions!

They're going to close right at the start of their most profitable season, I doubt it.
    After Labor Day, maybe.

I've heard rumors floating around the GN that Showboat was likely to close, but nothing definite. Resorts seems to be doing ok up at that end now that they sacked that roaring 20's theme and brought in Buffets tourist trap.

I read on another board that it was set to close in September & we would hear before that because of the 60 day notice.

It would stink if they closed the Showboat, because I like going to shows at the House of Blues. I guess I'd better hurry up and use my freeplay there.

That's a Sunday though, weird day to make any announcement. Maybe the next morning before the market opens.

I just realized I will probably be in AC that day. Maybe I should go in there a steal a bunch of shit.

I stayed at Showboat this past weekend. When I arrived on Thursday afternoon there were many suits walking around for a big meeting. I spoke to several employees and they indicated that they were probably going to close in mid September. I was also told that CET doesn't want to sell the casino to create another competitor and will probably operate it as a hotel.
If there is anything happening in June 15th, I agree a good guess would be an announcement. It certainly doesn't make sense to sell it during the summer when they have the most customers.

I'd like to know what they plan on doing with all that floor space if they're going to operate it as only a hotel.

I last visited Showboat at least 4 or 5 years ago, and was actually surprised it was still open at that time. It appeared to need a major overhaul to stay competitive, and the crowd was very thin. But like the Trump Marina, I'll miss the place if it does close. Last time, I enjoyed playing some of the slightly vintage machines that are becoming fewer and further between at the newer casinos.

We did a walk through at SB last week and talked to a number of employees including a casino host. Either they don't know or they're not telling. The general concensus was that everyone agrees that they are closing but no one knows when. Just for the heck of it I checked reservations on their website and they're taking reservations at least into Nov. I didn't check beyond that. My personal opinion? I couldn't care less. They've been going downhill for a long time in terms of room quality and service and we haven't stayed there in years. The only thing I will miss is Earl of Sandwich.

I stayed there two weeks ago in a pet friendly room. It is the only CET pet friendly in town. The room was beyond shabby..pee stains on the couch and rugs. . Just way to worn.
I hope the other CET props become pet friendly. Also couldn't find a place to eat for breakfast besides house of blues.I just don't like it there and the only reson were there was of my girl friends dogs. I wouldn't stay there if they gave me free rooms... oh yea they did lol
