LIR is my new go-to "carny" game--I've been kicked around too many times by three card poker. The relatively low house edge, especially since my wife and I don't play the bonuses (much to the consternation of dealers and fellow players) and fairly slow pace of the game appeal to us.

My question is: what can I expect for mimimums at LIR tables these days? We're staying center strip next month, during the week. I'm guessing $10 will be the minimum at Aria and Bellagio, even during the day on a weekday?

We'll also take a run downtown. I've never even looked for this game down there--is it available?

    Thank you!

NYNY usually has a $5 table open in the mornings. The casino is usually dead at that hour. I enjoy LIR as well but the streakyness keeps me from playing it at the same level I play craps or blackjack. I'll sit down with $100 at a $5 table and give it a go but my real gambling is done at other games.

Aria and Bellagio will be at least $10 during the day. Some of the casinos don't have a table open during the day. Harrah's usually always has a $5 table open at all times. Flamingo, usually, and Bally's as well. Paris rarely has a $5 table at night.
The game is pretty much available everywhere.

I completely agree. VP and BJ are our usual games. But for those times when we want to change it up, I'm planning to move to LIR and away from 3CP. Last trip I sat down at a $5 3CP table at Bally's, lost six straight hands and was down $105. Six straight losses at LIR would only put you down $30 or so. And you still have the outside shot at a decent win (4 of a kind, etc.).

Thanks for the info re: NYNY. I'm hoping that Monte Carlo will also have a $5 table, at least during the day.

I enjoy a few rounds of LIR anytime I'm in Vegas. A couple months ago, I stayed at Flamingo (where there usually wasn't a $5 table open) and took the 5 minute walk over to the Quad for a $5 table. I think I usually saw a $5 table in the Margaritaville casino attached to Flamingo, too.

If Let It Ride lets you down like 3 card poker did, recommend you try PaiGow Mania at The D... you can play for hours without winning or losing too much. The side bets are $1 minimums and are interesting and pay very well if you are lucky enough to hit them. Found it to be a game with friendly players and since dealer must handle each hand individually, it takes a while to play each hand... which is a money saver! Also Freebet Blackjack is $5 minimum and is more fun than regular blackjack... since the game is new, most dealers are very helpful... as are the other players. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the response, Texas Gramma! I really should look into Pai Gow--I hear a lot of good things about it, and the house edge is relatively low. The strategy looks daunting, reading about it, but I'm guessing a little time practicing online would help it make sense.

Fellow Let It player here. Just got back a few weeks ago from my annual journey. Daytime there are plenty of $5 tables that bump to $10 in the early evenings. Bellagio was $15 at night and that was the highest minimum I noticed.

Unfortunately Aria has removed the game completely from the floor. When they had LIR it was played face up! Unique twist seeing all player cards but the house forced you to play faster mitigating player advantage.

Props to PH, 2 tables open nearly all day with great dealers and pit bosses. Lots of fun over there. CET table layouts are weird. The felts have the 6 card bonus craziness on them, took a minute to adjust to it.

If you generally liked the feel of three card poker, you probably should try "High Card Flush" too.

The house edge for the main game is better than 3CP's ante/play and has a similar variance to 3CP and a very "simple strategy" that's near optimal (costs 2.71% of an ante).

Always max call 4+ card flushes, max call 3-card flushes T86 or higher, and fold all others.

I'm sure we'll be over there--in the past we have worn a groove in the PH-Paris-Bally's sidewalk, with side trips to Ellis Island. We love the PH atmosphere, too, even though in "real life" we're about as mild-mannered as you can get!

They were training the dealers at the CET properties on the new 6 card bonus for LIR when I was there in December. I'm sure if we don't play it, we'll have to explain ourselves to dealers and other players... which is why I was hoping to find LIR at $5 at an MGM property.

Hi gradytripp, you don't play the $1 bonus?? Not LIR, but a few years after Luxor opened my friend and I played Caribbean Stud with the same group of people for hours having a blast drinking and playing. Finally one guy busted out and a lady immediately sat down in his spot. She didn't play the $ after it was explained. Two hands in she hit a Royal, the dealer didn't open. The jackpot was $270,000 something. The pit boss came over and asked her if she wanted a rope to off herself with. I don't think she really understood what she'd just "lost". The rest of us, dealer and pit included, vowed not to tell the guy who'd left the table (and always played the bonus) what happened if we ran into him.

My best winning night in Vegas was LIR, $15,000+, always playing the $1 bonus.

How does the 6 card version work?

Nope, not in LIR. I'm glad you won $15,000, of course! But I'd bet that for every one of you, there are 20,000 players who lose money on that bet. It's got a 20% house edge, at least. Now, it's only a buck each time, I get it. And if it adds to your enjoyment, go for it! "Gaming" is supposed to be fun! I personally am trying to get away from table game situations where I'm enticed by a nearly impossible-to-win bonus.

In 1997 I was playing $3 LIR at Golden Gate downtown and had that 1$ bet down. I wound up winning an extra $20K because of that dollar (after I got delt a royal flush).

I even wrote a trip report about that win. :D

That's the thing with those $1 Bonus Bets. You know it's a sucker bet, but if you hit one of the bonus hands without making the bet you feel like a sucker. My theory is that I'm gambling for entertainment, not trying to grind out a small win, so I almost always play the $1 bonus bet with the hope of hitting a jackpot. I don't necessarily feel the same way about side bets, like the 6-card bonus or Match the Dealer in BJ, as those can really eat into your bankroll.

The two times I've been downtown, I have found $5 LIR at the Golden Nugget, 4 Queens and Binions at night. Golden Nugget seems to be where I had the most luck.

The Fremont has it at $5 at all times (when it's open).
It has the optional 'Pair-Plus' bet for $5, which has the same paytable as 3CP.
Still a sucker-bet, but it sure is nice when you get those 9s or less & eek out a push instead of a loss.
