When I play blackjack, I usually start out with two $50 hands. I increase my bet sizing as I go on, but never dip below 2x$50.

I know I am rated by the casino at $100/hand for this, but if I go to the high-limit room and it is a $100 minimum table, will they let me do this, or does each hand have to meet the table minimum?

If the table minimum is $100 you will have to do at least one hand at $100; if you want to play two hands they will have to be twice the minimum so 2x$200.

The first part is true, the second part isn't always the case. I've found it's about 50/50. Many casinos will allow you to play two hands without doubling the minimum. Especially in the HL rooms.

I think once you get up over $25-50/hand, they don’t make you double the minimum if you want to play more than one hand. I suppose on really busy weekends where spots at the BJ table are at a premium, they might. But on a “normal” day, I’ve never been asked to double the minimum when the minimum was above $25.

To the OP: I have been offered the option of playing two $50 hands on a $100 table by dealers/pit bosses a few times. But it was out on the main floor. So, I assume those tables probably vary between $50 and $100 minimums and the PB’s have the ability to easily change the minimums with demand. I doubt they’d do it in a HL room where $100 is as low of a minimum as you’re likely to see.

It might be worth asking if it is a very slow night. But I certainly wouldn’t count on it and I definitely wouldn’t even bother at a top tier joint where they have no problems getting $100+ action.

Agreed. I have never seen that requirement in the high limit

Excellent. Thanks for the info. That's what I assumed.

And as for two hands needing double the table minimum, the Wynn is the only place I've seen enforce that.

Told you it was a quick question :)

Sounds like you got your questions answered, but I have asked about the minimum to play 2 hands, and unless the pit boss says otherwise, the answer has always been "either double the table minimum or $25, whichever is lower"

2 hand is double minum , 3 hands i think is 5 times minium but once up to a 100$ table it doesnt matter

I don't understand paperposter's reply (I rarely do), but at every casino on the strip other than the Wynn, I have been allowed to play two hands at table minimum, not forced to play twice the table minimum.

This includes Venetian/Palazzo, Mirage, Aria, PH, Bellagio and Caesars.

This is the opposite of my experience. On the low minimum tables, I have always been required to play double the table minimum when I play two hands.

However, I never have this issue in the high limit room.

Do you play in the high limit room... or perhaps at $100 minimum tables on the floor?

if you are playing less than a 100$ a hand and want to play 2 hand you must play double the table minuim.

    for ex.

25$ minuim if you do 2 hands it would be 50$ for each hand

    15$ minium 30$ each hand

    do you understand

this is comon practice at most if not all vegas casinos

Let’s not make people think this is a hard and fast rule, because it certainly isn’t. I’ve played on plenty of $25-50 tables in plenty of different casinos that didn’t require me to double the minimum bet. Some have required it, some haven’t. I think the pit bosses have a lot of discretion on this one.

I think what paperposter is saying that, if that rule is in place and enforced, that's what you need to do. I'm a black chip player and I usually go with a buddy that's a green chip player and there's many times where the dealer tells him that you need to double the minimum bet if you want to play 2 hands. Then that's when I go ask the PB if it's okay that my buddy plays 2 hands at minimum. Like paperposter said, I believe this policy is in place at most casinos, but if it is being enforced is a totally separate story. I guess it would depend on the day/time, the amount of people/traffic in the casino. Also, as mentioned previously, once you play $100 minimum or go to the HL room, that policy is not in play.

Exactly. I really think it's up to the pit boss. I'm not sure, but I believe the logic behind this requirement is that on the lower limit tables on the floor, there are usually a lot of BJ players. So 1 person playing two hands at the minimum would be taking up two spots. If they allowed two hands at the minimum (let's just say $10x2) they're only getting $20 in action on two spots. If they only played one hand, they'll likely still play more than the minimum, and many times they'd play the same $20, but the table would have another open spot for another player to come in.

Essentially they're just making sure they're not losing action by allowing you to play two hands. However, this also means that a PB is going to have some discretion. If the casino is dead on a Monday morning at 8:00AM and someone is sitting at an empty table they probably don't care as much as they would on a Saturday night at 8:00PM on a crowded table in a busy casino.

That just isn't correct. I'm speaking from my experiences at MGM, Bellagio, MB, and MC, not in some theoretical manner.

Yeah, I suppose it is possible for people to have different experiences based on the pit boss or something, but again, my personal experience is that the Wynn is the only one that enforces the double-minimum rule and that is true down to $25 tables.

Anyway, I got my questions answered, so thanks everyone.

They will do this (require 2 Xs min two handed) sometimes as a card counting measure (reduce the spread when the count is negative/low), other times due to high customer demand or perhaps the whim of a pit boss.
