I have decided to spend $75 dollars of my trip bankroll to try one $25 slot machine each in the high limit rooms at Bellagio, Aria, and the Cosmopolitan. Yes, I will be playing minimum bet, so no need to lecture me there. If I hit anything big I will try maximum bet on my last day, otherwise, no more high limit action.

My question is, have any of you played in the high limit areas of these casinos and if so what are you the machines you think I should try?

I don't play high limit three reel slots, but a couple of thoughts:

    - whatever machine you pick make sure that your 1 credit buys all symbols. Like you don't want a machine that pays cherries, bar, double bar and triple bar on 1 credit bet and then 7s and WILDs on 2 credits bet where you spin and get something like 7-WILD-7 and you get nothing for it because your 1 credit didn't unlock those symbols

    - don't expect too much: most three reel slot machines only have a hit rate of 6-8%, and thats even in the high limit room... so they are expected to have some kind of win (maybe only bet back from something like 1 cherry) only around 1 in 11 spins

    - when picking what machine to play to look for one with a lower top prize. As an example you might see one machine where the top prize is 1000 credits ($25,000) and the machine next to it might have a top prize of only 300 credits ($7,500). Now, its nice to dream about hitting the jackpot and walking away with a giant cheque that says "pay to the order of you the sum of $25,000" but realistically your odds of winning something are going to be much higher on the machine with the lower top prize because in order to have an even remotely similar payback between the two machines the second machine has to have a lot more common/frequent smaller wins

    - an alternative to a single spin on a $25 machine at three places might be to look at playing a $1 video slot. You can find lots of $1 video slots with 9 or 15 lines max which would give you 8 or 5 spins respectively (betting $9 or $15 per spin) and will likely give you a lot more play for your money and still maintain the chance of a nice big win if you either line up some good symbols, hit some wilds or get a bonus game.

    Either way: Good Luck!!!!

I would say you'd be "better off" trying to play a $5 or $10 WOF or Top Dollar machine that's 2 max credits, so you can hope to either hit something on the spin or play the bonus game. Otherwise, raise your $$ to $150 so you can have a 2-credit $25 max spin on one of these games

Go to digital roulette, but $25 on black. If you win, do one spin on $25 Top Dollar at two credits (I have gotten the Top Dollar Bonus on my first spin several times)

If you lose the roulette bet, oh well, its no different than doing a one credit spin on a $25 dollar slot and getting nothing.

First, if I wanted to spend $75 on HL slots, I wouldn't go for three spins. I'd play something more like $10 a spin, that's got to be a lot more fun. Getting zero on three spins is HIGHLY likely.

I have no idea if you'll find this at $25, but my favorite reel spinner by far is now Triple Double Strike. (Also, look for multi-denomination machines as well to get $25 a spin). Only two kinds of bars and three colors of 7s, but every symbol has a double and triple version as well, so you can hit minimal stuff like three mixed anythings (6 coins) but if you get the triples you get 27x (162 coins). It's three coins per spin, but there's only a small extra boost on the top jackpot (everything else is a straight multiplier), so you give up almost nothing by playing one coin.

I played this at $15 a spin last trip at Flamingo to get my Diamond status and got one $1350 hand pay and was ahead almost the whole time until the last 10 minutes when I slid down to -$875. I put $12,500 coin-through in 90 minutes to get my 2500 points, (5000 then awarded for free.)

Also, playing $25 a spin be ready to accept a W2-G form, even on medium hits. You're only talking a 48 coin payout to get taxed. On this machine that could be three unmatched bars and double/double. Not that hard.

Triple Double Strike is my favorite 3-reel as well. ...but man are they streaky. :)

I'd also vote for some $5 slots to get a little more action potentially...but do as you want --- I'll hope for great results on your 3 spin adventure!

I'd vote for the $5 slot playing 2 coins max instead of $25, and make your investment $100 or $150.

At least, you get a little longer play. My buddy bought in for $100, and ran through 6 pulls and hit for $5000. I tried the same thing at a different $5 machine, and won nothing. Just like every other slot in Vegas, it's about timing.

Ok so I got $25 in free play from the cosmopolitan on the airplane. I went straight to the high limit room and played one credit $25 on the pink diamonds machine. I hit for $50 and cash out.

I go to the Bellagio high limit room and do another spin at $25 on their pink diamond machine. Nothing.

The next day I try three more pink diamond spins at $25 each at the Bellagio. Nothing.

My conclusion is that $25 a spin is way beyond my budget and I would have been better off using that money to play more spins on the dollar machines I normally play. So the people who told me to play a lower denomination were right.

Yeah, but it would have been pretty cool if you hit something like a 100-300 credit win :) :) :)

My wife and I usually allocate $200 each for a little session of big playing in the middle of our trip, sometimes for two or three sessions on a trip...

But for ever time we've done that neither of us has ever played a three reel slot machine: as said above, most three reel slots only have a hit rate of only about 1 in 11 (7%) and most of the time that'll be just to get your bet back... so the variance is pretty high.

The "nice" part of high variance is: if you do hit it could be a really nice score... The "bad" part of high variance is: its not very likely you will hit something, and not just "the casino has the odds in its favor" odds but the "you need a large bankroll to ride the ups and downs" type odds.

Every time I go to a casino I always set aside at least $100 to throw in a $5 WOF. Most times I end up with nothing after 10 spins, but once I hit the spin bonus twice in a session, almost back to back, netting $1400 total. The whole thing was over in just a minute or 2, and it was quite a rush winning so much.

so what type machines do you play? Had any luck? I've been thinking about trying the $1 kittyglitter slot. Or as we call them, "the high-dollar pu$$y machines". :wink2:

There's no "I told you so" here at all. I just wanted you to be able to do more than 1 or 2 spins. Even if you don't just slum it back to $1 slots, you could still get a thrill at a 2-credit-max $5 machine. $100 there gets you 10 spins. Maybe you walk away if you more than double your money or maybe you go broke. Either way, at least your thrill would last longer. Sorry you didn't hit this time, but I hope you go for the $5 or $10 slots next time and report getting a tax form

I also tried about a dozen different $5 machines as well, some at Aria and some at the Bellagio and only had one $10 hit. Maybe my mistake was spreading myself too thin between too many different machines.

Someone on this forum said you need to play at least 60 spins on a machine to have a good shot at a win and that sounds about right. So next time I will just pick one $5 machine and play at least 60 spins in a row.

I like the top dollar $25 machines. However, I am now retired from HL slots.
