Interesting cancelled decks of cards

    Hi Team,

    I was in Vegas two weeks ago and decided to pick up a few decks of cards at the casinos I visited. I play racehorse canasta so I am always in need of several decks of cards, and some of my playing cards were getting rough looking.

    I limited myself to just the MGM properties I visit, so if anyone knows of anything else, please let me know. I visit CC, MC, NYNY, Excal, Luxor, MB.

    Some observations:
    1. Mandalay Bay marks up their cancelled decks-- basically worthless.
    2. Most MGM properties remove the jokers. Why? The exceptions were NYNY, CC, and Luxor
    3. The NYNY are clipped on two opposite side, but gosh are they cool.
    The joker is a sexy statue of liberty, and the hearts are replaced by apples.

    I really liked the NYNY cards; I wish they didn't clip them. Any other noteworthy cards to pick up on my next trip?

    Can't tell you but wondered if anyone knew why they just didn't change the color of the decks they sell the public from those used in the casino with the same face / number style......I agree, some are neat but the chopping and marking makes it less desirable.

    Family Dollar stores sell Vegas casino cards. $1 a deck.

    I agree with you on liking the NYNY cards. I like the apple pip for the hearts.

    The decks that you used to buy were the ones used in the casinos, when they are retired, they are sold to the public. They would cut the corners off or punch a hole through the cards before they were sold. Has that changed?

    We have a couple of difference decks from different places. Not may people notice they have been modified.

    I'm with you about the New York New York cards. The apples are very cool. Bravo to whoever came up with that idea.

    I think I saw something on tv that the corners of the cards are cut in the prison. I guess that is what they do in Las Vegas prison instead of the normal making of license plates :thumbsup:

    The jokers were removed prior to play in the casino and discarded. Many casino's do this
