Found a good rate for Luxor in late March on SmarterVegas. The rate is really quite low...about $50.00 per night, including resort fee. Is there something wrong with this hotel? Friends who have stayed there told us it was okay. The only comparison points we have are the MGM Grand and the Signature, where we have stayed before. Can anyone who knows the Luxor give us some info and an opinion on this hotel? Thanks...
Good thread right here that is from the last couple of days https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103088
When the Luxor first opened, it was extremely heavily Egyptian themed, apparently on check in you could have a short boat ride even ( along their Nile!) We enjoyed staying there in 1998 when everything was fresh and exciting but a few years ago the management decided to neutralise the whole place and turn it into Blandness! It is now simply an average mundane hotel which is perfectly fine but you get the impression the owners would happily tear down the pyramid to remove the last traces of Egypt to start all over again. They have removed as much of the theme as possible and the only " improvement" is that the prices have fallen dramatically.
It's not great. The last time I stayed there was over three years ago. I would still select Luxor over other places, but it does not camper to the MGM Grand or Signature. Luxor has decent gambling, one very good place to eat (T&T), some decent bars, and it is close to other good places (MB and MGM Grand). But that's about it. The rooms are below average, no good food other than the one place mentioned, a terrible spa, and a below average pool. If you're just looking for a place to lay down at the end of the day and then get up and go, Luxor is good for that. I used to treat it kind of like a dorm. It served its purpose (place to sleep), but it's not somewhere you want to hang out.
Couldn't find anything wrong with it Last April we stayed there with a myvegas reward for one night. We checked in late and were upgraded to a suite ( not sure of the exact name of it) in one of the towers. The suite was clean and very nice with a large living room, bedroom and a huge bathroom. The bed was comfortable. We enjoyed the cocktail lounge before we turned in for the night. The appetizers and cocktails were very good. We didn't stay very long, but enjoyed the time we were there. I didn't see anything wrong with it. Usually we stay more in the center of the strip so this seemed pretty far away to us, but that is just what we are used to. I didn't see a reason not to stay there.
I cannot disagree more on some points you make. Having stayed in both Mandalay and Luxor in just the last year when it comes to rooms the Luxor rooms beat the hell out of the MB room we stayed in, Great Room my arse, I am not even talking the Tower Lux Suite just the Tower Deluxe room. From the bed to the furnishing the Luxor room won on every level over MB. Dining is far from just one good place, Tender has the second best steak I have had in Vegas only behind Carnevino, damn sight better than MBs Stripsteak, Rice and Co has some great sushi and for cheap eats Backstage Deli has great grub. You also have all the places in Mandalay Place to choose from. The pool while not all decked out was decent enough and the best part is they have an adults only area that is not a toptional place, nice to be able to chill at the pool with no rug rats running around and the drink service was far better than MBs was. We usually stay at THEHotel but if the Delano change make s huge difference we will stay at Lux over MB any day. Sure the casino is a bit vanilla and the CWs are not the hottest in town by a looooong shot but for just a place to sleep and eat Lux is far better than your post makes it sound like.
I agree with UK's assessment. I stayed at Luxor last April, had the one bedroom suite in the tower. While the suite was large (1050 sq feet) it was not all that. One bar stool, worn carpeting, the furniture was nicked up and old. The casino is ok, nothing special, T&T is good, I didn't like the pool area at all. If it was comped I would maybe stay there again, otherwise there are many better options.
A solid three star, nothing more, nothing less. A little too far south on the Strip for me. I'd rather fork out another Benjamin per night and get a good room at Aria/MGM (maybe Bellagio if lucky). At least Paris and Ny/NY which are of comparable quality have that (more) central location.
Exactly why we hardly ever stay there anymore. Last trip we stayed one comped night at the end of our trip and I ended up just depressed, remembering how much we used to love it and how wonderful it was to just wander around and see all of the gorgeous, detailed Egyptian theming. They had even stopped having the 24 hour Pyramid Cafe, which we had loved. I literally used to cry when we had to leave and we would immediately plan our next trip. I absolutely agree it was time to update many things around the casino and rooms but there was *no good reason* for ripping out all of the beautiful Egyptian theming that made it so unique. Now it is just a generic hotel -- frankly, the same as so many others. It's boring. We usually visit there once per trip now for a few hours just to see what little Egyptian stuff is left. Now that we don't even play there as often, they don't want to comp us anymore so we don't even stay there. That being said, as a place to stay, I don't think it's horrible or anything. If you have a comp or a good deal, I would stay there.
We have really enjoyed our stays at Luxor. I like the Casino bars, they COMP Fat tire on decent VP. The vibe of the Casino can be a bit vanilla, but we aren't table players. I like being able to walk to Mandalay Bay and enjoy their dining options as well as their Lounges. We have had a ton of fun at LAX. There is a reason there are 31 flavors in an ice cream shop. I personally dont care for Caesars Palace and even though I stayed in a new Augustus room with a great view, have never gone back.
Stayed at the Luxor last September and enjoyed the stay. I liked the Egyptian decor, room was clean, well maintained and service was excellent. We had an issue with the internet our first night but it was fixed immediately. Food options were good, don't forget to check the shops on the walk between Luxor and Mandalay Bay. Getting to the center strip is an excursion but if you don't mind walking or taking transit it's fine.
We stayed there last year for the first time, cashing in MyVegas points to do so. I'd say for $50 *including* resort fee, it's worth it. Nothing terribly special here, though. A little more kitschy than generic Strip properties, but not by much. Room was clean and relatively nice. We really enjoyed the pool area. We didn't enjoy the long walk back to the tower elevators, but that's par for the course on the Strip.
If possible I would try to stay in the tower. I can't stand staying in the pyramid. Last time i did the ac was broke, plus the elevators feel like they aren't safe. Will say the towers are a pretty nice room for the price, although no wifi throughout the entire building which is a complete buzzkill
It's way past it's hey day.. they've done remodeling in the casino. If you get a Tower Room it's pretty nice, I stayed there last year and was happy. Actually, surprised it was nice. The Pyramid Rooms are really outdated and old fashioned, and awkwardly shaped. I would not stay in the Pyramid anymore. But the Tower Rooms are always on my list if the price is right. The place is a step down from like Mandalay Bay, but it's an easy walk to go enjoy all their amenities. If Luxor is $50 and Mandalay Bay is $65, certainly stay at Mandalay Bay. But if Mandalay Bay is like $150. Luxor is great, save the money.
I know I'm in the minority, but I actually really enjoy the Luxor. I've stayed here three times and just keep coming back. I've stayed in the tower and the pyramid and enjoy both rooms. Obviously the tower is nicer, but the pyramid room is still very clean (which is what I value most). I also like the dark vibe of the casino and I absolutely love the architecture. Even when I stay at Mandalay Bay, I end up spending a significant amount of time over at the Luxor. When you factor in the cheap rooms, the Luxor is a really great option. Much better than other hotels in this price range (think: Excalibur, Bally's, Quad, Harrah's).
I stayed there with some friends about 2 years ago because it was short noticed and the cheapest one we could find for the last minute trip. We ended up getting a spa suite after I gave the guy at the counter a $20. It was nice for the amount of space we had, big sitting area with a couch and table, a spa tub next to the beds in the other area of the room, and the bathroom was pretty good size. We really didn't do anything in the hotel, we basically slept in the room and all that, then went out and did whatever the rest of the time mid-strip.
We stayed there our first trip to Vegas only that one time. We tend to walk a bit each day and felt Luxor was too far out of the way. Also it was a long walk just to get from the room to out of the place much less any other place on the strip. With that said, it really isn't that bad because you have lots of options without even leaving the building. You can go from Mandalay Bay, Luxor to Excalibur and have a HUGE selection of places to eat and gambling options. We just enjoy walking to all the other places on the strip and the Luxor is just out of the way.
I enjoyed the one time we stayed at the Luxor but the location is what would keep me from staying there again. We stayed in the Tower, rooms were average. I've stayed in MB once before and I thought Luxor's Tower room was slightly better. Like someone already said, 'vanilla' is the best way to describe the casino. Nothing special, but nothing terrible either. One of my more enjoyable memories of staying there were our drunken walks through the Excalibur on our way to our room in the Luxor every night. No offense to the Excalibur folk, but it always feels like you're strolling through a trashy neighborhood which makes for good people watching....
I lose $400 in an hour playing blackjack in the pyramid, so the casino will always have a certain amount of bad juju for me.
