Actually, there were higher odds....the LVH sports book alone has 14 tickets that were written at 1000-1 odds.

quickly scanning various dates at LVH the odds on Auburn were

    4/22--1000/1
    7/1--500/1
    8/19--300/1
    9/23--200/1

Thanks. Sounds like the guy is letting it ride - must not need the money. The money lines are kind of crazy to try and hedge his bet at around -350 for FSU.

It could certainly be viewed that way. If he bet $35,000 on the FSU moneyline he could guarantee himself at least a $10,000 payday.

Under that scenario, if FSU wins, he wins $10,000 (assuming a moneyline of -350) and the only thing he loses is his original $100 wager on the Auburn future bet. Net profit = $9,900

If Auburn wins, he wins $50,000 on his original ticket, and he loses the $35,000 bet on FSU. Net profit = $15,000

If the bettor doesn't hedge in any fashion, he wins jack shit if FSU wins the game (and let's not forget they are currently an 11.5 favorite). That is why a different poster said he is "letting it ride", as he has chosen to gamble rather than lock in the guaranteed profit.

Granted, it would be very difficult to bet $35,000 on the FSU moneyline unless you are in Vegas

Yeah, I think with that money line, I'd side with him in not hedging his bet. If it was a pick 'em and he could guarantee $25K, for sure, but to have to put up $35K to guarantee $10K, I don't think I'd do it.

I just checked on my gambling site the moneyline is -400.

That being said, I would still hedge, as I think Auburn gets crushed tonight. I would hate to make a savvy (or lucky) bet like this and have nothing to show for it, but that is just one man's opinion. Hedge $40K and lock in a $10K payday. Not bad for what, at the time, was likely just a silly throw away bet for fun in Vegas.

If I were him I would hedge some of it out. I would want to get something back for getting this far. Maybe he can't come up with too much cash to hedge it out...who knows.

I have Auburn and the points completing a 5 team parlay and I hedged some out this morning.

I doubt I would hedge the entire thing myself. I'd probably do something like 1-5k on FSU. Not a massive payout if they win, but I still have that longshot with Auburn.

I read he did not hedge his bet, and he did travel to Vegas with a friend to watch the game.

I have been thinking of this kid the entire game. I can only imagine the cheering going on for it. And the partying that will happen if Auburn holds on. What a ride it must be.

I was indifferent of who to cheer for, but my love for Vegas and day dreaming of being there cheering and cashing that in made me cheer for Auburn!

I think I would have just been sick right there in the sportsbook.

I can't imaging coming that close to $50,000 and loosing like that. Great game, great comeback by FSU.

if for whatever reason I didn't hedge some out before the game, after seeing the first half I would have certainly hedged some out at halftime

would have been sick on that last touchdown. I have always been the one to argue to let it ride but a couple years ago friend explained to me what was explained in this thread. Had a ten team parlay for march madness 9 for 9 going into last game. Made it to Sportsbook 2 minutes too late and couldn't place the hedge bet.

Lost the parlay and was sick about it for three days
