I've only played video poker a few times. I'd like to play more this trip but I want to play the best pay machines. Which ones should I play at Orleans and Gold Coast? Thinking I'll need to sit down once in a while. Sometimes I get sore from standing at the craps table all night. :evillaugh

    ORLEANS : 99.64% - Bonus Deluxe : 1-1-3-4-6-9-80-50-800

    (12) - 25¢ - 1 Play Up between Cabaret Lounge Bar and showroom
    (10) - 25¢ - 1 Play Up between Subway and poker room
    (5) - 25¢ - 1 Play Slant one side of bank in front of buffet entrance

The only trouble is the "even money" for 2-pair. However, all 4 of Kind's pay 80 to 1.

Wow, I didn't know you could find them by searching online. That's cool! Is there a place online that tells you how to play? I'm a newbie so I don't understand all the numbers in your posts.

Excited to learn how to play a new game! The few times I've played it was just for fun, no strategy whatsoever.

If you are new to video poker, then I would suggest you stay away from the 9/6 Bonus Deluxe ... and the "Super Times Play" games. If I were you, I would learn the strategy for basic 9/6 Jacks or Better. The Gold Coast has several of those games. And, both the Gold Coast and the Orleans have basic 8/5 Bonus (very similar strategy as JOB). These would be the "safest" games for a newbie at video poker.

Super Times Pay does nothing to strategy. Just ups variance and ups your return as well. And it's a lot more fun, imo. And as for 9/6 Bonus Deluxe, just play 9/6 Jacks or Better strategy and it only costs 0.03% in errors.

But generally speaking, I would learn Jacks or Better strategy, and either play 9/6 Jacks or Better (9 for the full house and 6 for the flush per coin bet), 8/5 Bonus Poker, or 9/6 Bonus Poker Deluxe.

A simple strategy for Jacks or Better:

I agree with Tring...if you've got the 'roll to invest $500 a day, then the 25c 9/6 JoB SuperTimesPay are the best games in Vegas (Low variance base game with the chance for a big score with a multiplier)
As for Orleans, your best bet would be 8/5 Bonus Poker for 25c, which is available everywhere there.

It is impossible to overemphasize the importance of practice when learnig video poker. Get software. Put in the reps until you're playing over 98% accuracy, as a bare minimum.

Orleans has NSUD also, which pays better than BP and is easy to learn. However, the strategy is quite different from what you learn for regular JOB. It would be a good second game to add to your repertory after you're comfortable with JOB.

STP is the devil's game. Play it at the risk of your soul.

Screw them all and play Ultimate X. Poker on steroids. You'll have more fun than any standard single line poker game. Screw the odds, you aren't going to play so long that you need to worry about a percent or 2 of payback. You are in it short term to hit big and there's nothing like getting dealt a full house after getting dealt a flush on that machine.

Orleans have a bank of them a few rows in when coming into the casino from the elevators for a nickel on up (multi denom).

Haha... op did ask for the best paying machines though. Does Orleans have 6/5 bonus for that at least? I'd be shocked if they had any better ultimate x games than that.

Ultimate X is definitely fun though when it's hitting.

Yep, they're 6/5 bonus... My 9\5 DDB nickle STP machines are back-to-back with those ones.

I play bonus. I can't remember if it's 6/5 or 7/5, but the 2-1 on two pair makes your Ultimate X experience that much better and longer. Don't you just love getting 120 on two pair?

7/5 is full pay ultimate x (99.28% for 3-play), so I'd assume it is 6/5 (98.12%). But that's the nice thing about bonus, 6/5 is the worst they can offer. Of course strategy is weird.

And I'm greedy, I want quads with multipliers...:evillaugh

I love to play NSUD there (both locations). I know, JoB has lower Variance, but Deuces Wild is more fun.

And "Not So Ugly Ducks" has higher payback. But It's also a little more difficult to learn. And for someone fairly new to the game, I would still suggest JoB first unless they practice "Not So Ugly Ducks" before the trip. But I do love deuces...even though they don't love me. :grrr:

I ended up losing twelve-hundred playing this (and multi-strike) during my last two night stay at Orleans. It is addicting when you hit (and the fast drink service gets you to the point you feel the next big hit is only one hand away).

The comp offers are better ,but I hopefully stick with Bonus Deluxe in the future (99.61% with JOB strategy) readily available throughout the Orleans.

If you enjoy being served tasty alcoholic beverages while sitting down and playing video poker, I highly recommend the Island Bar at Gold Coast (it's basically the main bar near the Flamingo Rd entrance).

At this bar, they have 9/6 (full pay) Jacks or Better at the 50 cent level ($2.50 per hand playing 5 credits). There are also TVs above the bar so you can watch your favorite sports game.

The bartenders have been nice and attentive in my past sessions there too.

If 50 cents is too steep for you (which is certainly understandable, especially for someone new to video poker), you can find 25 cent ($1.25 per hand playing 5 credits) 9/6 Jacks or Better on the casino floor somewhere.

Okay, so I guess I'll have to look up this JOB strategy and see how much I can learn in the next 2 months. I'm excited to try something new. I'll have to check out that one at the bar at Gold Coast! I never realized there were so many different kinds of poker games. I just knew they were everywhere...LOL.

I have a friend that plays $5 machines. Too rich for my blood. But, I've seen her get paid over $4K several times over the last couple of years.

I've had several long sessions enjoying the draft beers by the friendly bartenders at this bar and I second jimbo's recommendation. These were quarter games for a while, were downgraded for a period, but restored a short time later at the 50 cent level. If you like to play at a bar and can handle smoke (or can find a section without smokers), this is the best bet between the two casinos.

Another Boyd casino, Main Street Station, offers quarter 9/6 JOB at the Boars Head Bar downtown and you get a scratch off card for every four of a kind (worth $2-$500 - most are $2).
