There are 22 here in WI and there is a strong lobbying effort going on to build #23 near the IL border on the site of a former greyhound race track. I do think it will happen. All the WI tribes but one, are in favor of it being built.

Personally, I haven't steped foot in one in over 10 years. That's what Vegas is for!

We don't have to worry about that here in VA...

Once we get through the bureaucracy and give the Potawatomi a significant stake in the new arena for the Bucks, then in return they will give the OK on the Hard Rock Kenosha.

And that all has to be done before Illinois approves and begins a casino in Waukegan.

Missouri has 13. Probably a few too many. The state has no plans of expansion though. Places like Tunica are ghost towns during the week.

We can only wish in our state (Hawaii). At last count, we have at least 20 direct weekly flights to Vegas and the majority traveling are gamblers. There are countless others who fly the non-direct flights going through Los Angeles or San Francisco. Probably like folks from the East Coast, we are down a grand before placing that first bet in Las Vegas.

This is rather obvious I guess, but I'll venture the observation anyway.

Gaming is only saturated within the context of the artificial restrictions designed to stunt the industry's growth. Imagine if casinos nationwide were treated as ordinary businesses, with ordinary tax rates and ordinary licensing requirements. Imagine the customers being able to easily purchase chips by swiping their credit or EBT cards.

Casino gaming would erupt. Is there any doubt?

And that's just the brick-and-mortar aspect. Clearly the online potential is huge as well.

Along this same line, I'm blown away at how casinos are literally training their customers to play online with games like Rapid Craps and Roulette with terminals rather than chips.

Take all of "live" out of live gambling and pay may eventually choose to stay home and sit at their computer.

I quite possible that I have no clue what I'm talking about but if I wanted to get butts in the door long term, I would go out of my way to emphasize the tangible aspects of live gaming rather than automate them.

I don't see it as training....everyone who is my age 33 or younger already assumes that everything should be done electronically and don't have that fear lack of understanding that older generations do about technology. I think it's possible that as older generations die off that the casino of the future will look very different.

Exactly. And I think people of that age have almost the opposite reaction to older people -- if anything, they fear (or, at least, dislike) the sort of human interaction that's involved with live table games. Hell, we have a whole sticky up at the top about people who are too intimidated to try live craps; if they're doing it in front of a screen, though, there's less anxiety about making a "mistake".

Also keep in mind that the casino lobby has their hands completely in online gaming. So they won't be losing tons of money if ppl stay home to gamble. And online/electronic gaming equals less overhead. They still have to pay Nevada dealers minimum wage before tips. All they need to pay the bubble craps game is electricity.

I live about a mile as the crow flies from Hoosier Park, we have at least 7-8 casinos and 2 racinos in Indiana now, just in the Cinci area there are at least 4 within an hour drive now. I go to Vegas to gamble by all means, but Fridays that I am off I go up to Hoosier park and play the ponies. I work revolving weekend so about twice a month I head up there. $1 draft beers when the track is live(usually March-Nov) doesnt hurt the idea either. Its very relaxing for me to be able to go up there on my weekends off and sit back and enjoy the horses and camaraderie!

it is amazing that there are those that actually believe things such as this, but I guess in one of the most economics and finance challenged countries in the world nothing should be a surprise

I suppose you believe that all that is holding back high end clothing and watch demand is the lack of those stores on every street corner

or if there were just more Mercedes dealers and Porsche dealers especially in smaller cities there would be a lot more people driving Mercedes or Porsches

or if Vegas (or any city) just built more shopping malls that shopping would erupt because of all the people out there with money burning a hole in their pockets waiting to satisfy their pent up shopping demand

or perhaps if there were 64 or even 128 pro sports franchises for each sport there would be an eruption in pro sports viewership and fans

all of these wild "build it and they will come" projections ignoring the massive amount of failed shopping malls, strip centers, car dealers, pro sports franchises, high end retailers, and ESPECIALLY casinos littering the countryside built on the wild eyed failed economics of supply driving demand and damn the income levels and amounts of free cash available per household build it anyway and they will just further mortgage the future (until it all blows up of course and their home equity line of credit goes negative and the bills show up and the losses mount at the casinos)

    actually I was yes

but really it was because there are 32 teams for the NFL (most successful pro sports league) and because MLB, NHL and NBA are at 30 teams and you usually add in pairs, but if you are going to add 2 more teams why not just add two and then DOUBLE IT!!!! to capture all of that (non-existent) "pent up demand"

kind of like claiming there is pent up demand for gambling when AC just had a casino close down and get sold off for scraps, another AC casino was sold just recently for 10% of what it cost to build, Revel is probably going to go bankrupt a 3rd time, Vegas is littered with failed casinos, Indian Casinos are starting to suffer, Mississippi is littered with failed casinos and it cost about $49 dollars each way (a whopping $100 dollars) to catch a flight to Vegas where you can get rooms for under $30 per night

but yea all the people with all of that free income burning a hole in their pocket looking for a way to gamble it just can't swing that $200 dollar investment to get to one of the hundreds of locations to gamble in the USA they need something in the truck stop or Cstore around the corner to catch their "valuable" business of putting a $20 spot through a one armed bandit while getting terrible odds and drinking piss beer and smoking cheap cigarettes until they are drunk and broke

if we could just "capture that demand" think of where gambling could take the economy!!!!
