Need Reno Advice....please!

Hello all --- hope you're all surviving the cold spell that has blanketed the US. Been brutal cold in Nebraska for about a week now.

I need some help....

Background: Vegas regular (3-4 times/year). Used to enjoy the strip....now prefer downtown Vegas, and some off strip.

Headed to Reno in April for the National Bowling Tournament. Leaving early and staying late so I can gamble. Need a place to stay though. Never been there and have no idea what to expect...
Any suggestions?? Keep in mind that Hooters and Plaza doesn't scare me or offend me.... Yes, I've enjoyed stays at Cosmo, Wynn, and Bellagio --- but I'm not enthralled with all that stuff.

Also --- what is the layout of Reno?? Will I need a car to get around???

Any suggestions??

April in Reno won't be FREEZING, probably mid 60's....
Since the wife and I are in Reno every weekend, I can speak on it...
I'd recommend staying downtown....since you'll be at the Bowling Stadium anyway. (it's across the street from the TriPlex)
Try to see if you can't score a CHEAP room at Circus-Circus (it's not as bad as the LV one)
Then you can have CC/Silver Legacy/Eldorado at your fingertips (Collectively named the TriPlex; They're all connected)
Then if you want more, you can walk one block down/up to Harrahs...and even MORE, one MORE block down to Cal-Neva.
You won't need a car to get around....all the hotels provide a free airport shuttle (runs on a posted schedule; frequently)
If you WANTED to get to Peppermill or Atlantis or Grand Sierra, all you'd have to do is hop the airport shuttle and then catch whatever shuttle you want (Pepps, Atl, or GSR)
Real easy peasy
My recommendation though; just stay at the TriPlex...it'll provide plenty for you to do. (Good buffet @ Eldorado, good coffee shop at Legacy)

 

Reno advice

Will be in Reno for the same reason in March. This will be my 7th or 8th trip to Reno for Nats. Have stayed at Peppermill the last 2 times and really like it. If you stay there, you might want to think about getting a car. Have stayed at the tri-properties a couple times, if you stay there (Silver Legacy is my personal favorite) everything would be walking distance, including the stadium. The easiest explanation is Peppermill is closer to a strip-type hotel, while the tri-properties have that downtown Vegas feel to them.

I agree with the above posts but take a look at VisitReno message board. That should be a help.

 

Silver Legacy is also my favorite in the downtown area. That being said El Dorado is usually a little cheaper and also nice. I don't really care for Circus Circus. Last year when we were there my son and wife got a suite there, and you had to take a tram to get to the tower with the rooms.

Silver Legacy's rewards are very easy to use. You build them up as you play and I always had enough to pay for a meal or two.

I appreciate the help and advice from the Reno crowd. I will definitely check out that other message board that was mentioned.

Excited to try something new out. I've extended the vacation, so they'll be lots of time for stuff other than bowling.

I'm sure I'll be returning for more advice as the time nears.

Got flights booked, and entry fee paid to Nationals -- so no turning back now!

 

I agree: CC/Silver Legacy/Eldorado would be ideal. Great fun!

 

reno no car realy need it then again reno is a ghost town . i suggest find another place to go

theres really nothing to do in reno its very run down its seen better days now lake tahoe is nice

Sorry our little town can't compete with all the glitz of Vegas...but different strokes for different folks.
If you want to get a good gamble on...Reno is the place.
If you want to be a tourist and be seen...Lake Tahoe is the place.
