I have been a b connected member for a little over a year and have made 4 trips within that time frame with stays at Sams Town and Gold Coast. I am still Ruby level (close to sapphire) and play mostly craps and roulette with a little bartop VP mixed in. I have stayed the last two times at sams town on mailers for 5 nights free and gold card (RFB) My bankroll on the last two trips has been around 2,000, and i play around 6 hours per day, 300-400 per session, 3 sessions per day Depending on how the craps table is rolling, my average bet ranges from 20 to 50 per shooter, and I generally end each session with a small win... buy in with 300, up more than 150 and walk Judging by the amount of play that most posters say is necessary for RFB, I dont even qualify for what is offered. Are the offers I am receiving unusual for a locals type low roller joint? I am starting to think that there has been a bookkeeping error or something. Bear in mind i am not looking to break the bank or anything, just make a small profit and pay for the trip and maybe a nice dinner off property or two. I am enjoying the type of treatment I am getting, and if I am getting overcompensated I dont want to screw it up by spreading my play around. I am a good tipper, and a friendly guy and maybe I am getting over rated for my play? Any insights on the subject would be very welcome. I dont mind playing at locals joints or with senior citizens, I appreciate a colorful, working class crowd even though I am 30. Should I stick with Sams Town or change over to MSS because I prefer the craft beers and nicer gaming floor. I hear comps are harder to come by at the downtown Boyd properties. Please advise.... I am kinda new to being comped and I dont want to mess it up. Thanks
After a visit last winter to Sam's Town where I played mostly BJ and a little craps, They send me offers every months for two free nights (including weekends) without any blackout dates and $10 food credit. I usually buy in for $100 and play $5/hand - sometimes $10/hand. Usually play 3-4 hours/day. I have used the free rooms twice so far on expensive weekends. I usually stay downtown and have played much more at MSS and Fremont and do not get any offers from them. I believe Sam's Town is pretty generous with their comps as the vast majority of Vegas visitors do not even know it exists. I find that they treat me better than most other places in Vegas (including DT Boyds properties). I believe they do so to try to build up a "word of mouth" reputation. I think the comps are part of this strategy as well.
I have the same offer as you ^^, 2 nights + $10 dining The only way you're NOT sapphire, is because you're playing 100%+ games, and only earning 1/3 the normal points...because if you're getting 5 nights + gold card at ST, then you're DOING GOOD!! who is your host? Henry? Fwiw, they only rate 2x odds at craps...so any more is only for fun.. (I learned that and I started playing $10 + $20 odds, rather than $3 +$30..)
has anyone tried taking an offer from sams town and having it matched at another boyd property? I've also got 5 nights, 75FP, and Gold Card (F&B) after my last trip there. I much prefer suncoast and had also considered Orleans but it's hard to pass up the offer.
Gold Coast is generally pretty generous with comps. All it has taken me is a couple thousand points per day to generate comp offers. That's not much. From my (limited) experience, Boyd's off-strip properties are more generous than their downtown props.
Yup, Sams is definitely the most generous property for Boyd in Vegas...but then again, its waaaaay out there...second is GoldCoast, then MSS.
Hey Now!!!! I get fairly good offers from Orleans. Only 1 trip per year- this year being the rare exception. Made Sapphire during Aug. 2012, went back May 2013. My wife and I both play on my card, 90% VP. I get 2 anytime days a month, plus invites to the slot and VP tourneys which include 3 nights. Lately they have been offering a $100 gift card along with 3 nights. I spent 4 hours at Sam's Town in May and have been getting 2 nights a month anytime. Same at GC. I do have a very generous host at Orleans, who has probably overcomped us the last 2 trips. But we are also generous with her....
Fwiw, we put about $5k coin-in this trip at Orleans, hopefully that'll give us some offers, because we really had a good time at Orleans (and they have shocktop at the alligator bar!)

Tim, I have not spoken with a host thus far, all of the offers that i mentioned have been mailers. Do you think it would be worthwhile to speak with one given my level of play? Is Henry overly generous and is that why you mentioned him? From your experience gambling in Boyd Casinos, does it matter a great deal which property is your home casino? Sams town has always been my primary, but last trip i changed it to the MSS. From the comments here, sams sounds pretty generous anyway, and if MSS can offer comparable comps do you think I should keep it MSS or go back to Sams Town. I really like the gold card.
Our offers from MSS (our home casino) is gradually being reduced. We just received the February offers and again, no food or dollar amount for food. We visited Orleans one night in 2012 and played about 4 hours. Since then, we had been receiving 3 night free room offers. We used it and stayed that 3 nights in September 2013. Today, we received our mailing update stating we qualified for Sapphire. The offers include 3 free nights at all of the Boyd Vegas hotels valid until February 28th. They include the Suncoast and Gold Coast; and we have never been in those casinos.
If I had to choose between MSS and Sams...I'd choose Sams every time.... Its just an overall better property, IMHO...however, MSS is also connected to FSE, so that helps... On Henry...he was nice enough to give us the in-house limo(read: escalade) service to/from the airport last time I was there, so if you've got a GoldCard, I'd definitely hang in with Sams...
What's this Gold card that is mentioned? I thought Boyd status was Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. Is the Gold card something else?
Same as OP My play is very similar to the original posters. My best comp offers have come from the Four Queens. Maybe play some there and see what you get.
A "Gold" Card is something they give you when you check in...you use it to "pay" for all your meals (basically the casino is COMPING it all)
I do like Sams Town, and as long as the gold card keeps coming, they have my business. I just wish a few of the hot rolling Hawaiians from MSS and Cal could find their way down Boulder Highway. Have you had any luck on a comped stay getting a room with safe? Doing the whole deposit box thing is kind of a PITA. If you don't mind my asking, how would one go about arranging transportation to and from the airport through a host? Does that happen at the end of a stay when you are having your play evaluated, or might I have any luck calling a host previous to my next trip in January? Thanks for your help Tim, you seem to know more about my Boyd properties than just about anyone else. Also, are you mainly a VP player or do you dabble in other games?
Personally, I like the craps action at ST a lot better than MSS (I've seen higher-limit players at ST, over MSS) If you get in contact with Henry Forte (call or email) he should be able to send the ST escalade out to the airport for you (a security guard will actually be the one driving it) If you're an RFB player at ST, you should definitely be able to score a free ride (just tell Henry you're coming in, and would VERY MUCH APPRECIATE if he sent transportation for you) Yeah,I'd say the only mor well versed on boyd, is Joe... I play dice and VP...(I stay away from 100% at boyd because the point acrrual SUCKS)
