I've Just Done Something Very Stupid...

Usually, I don't do this. I don't know what happened today...

I was playing blackjack at my local casino, I was up 71.6 units. I was thrilled, I had done extremely well. Then I got stuck in this trance, forgetting my usual rules- forgetting everything, betting big when I never do, etc. I wound up loosing the 71.6 units, and my entire bankroll chasing my losses. I feel extremely, extremely stupid. Then I did the unspeakable- I went to the ATM. Then lost it all.

Perhaps if this happened in Vegas, it'd be easier to take- after all Vegas is different than a blackjack table at a tiny casino in Scotland.

I guess I've learnt my lesson, but what a stupid thing for me to do.

I thought I'd share it with you guys for I can't think of anybody else who'd listen... I'm going to go to a mellow corner now and cry

 

It happens to the best of us. I hope that extra money lost will not have an impact on your everyday life, so you can simply write this off as a poor gambling mistake.

The most important thing you can do from this is LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES.

Next time you play, set a limit. If you find yourself on a huge heater, pocket some of those winnings. Know the winning hands won't last forever. Never dip back into your profit, and never chase losses. It's just asking for trouble. "The longer you play, the more you lose" is never so true when you find yourself chasing losses.

Like you however, I also feel my worst beats happen when i'm at the local casino, usually by myself, or playing online poker at home, rather then a "vacation" gambling spot like Vegas or AC.

 

Pretty sure we've all been there before. I have, more than once. Consider it a learning experience and try to do better next time

 

It has happened to all of us. I know that doesnt make you feel any better but you are not alone. Ive done it more than my share of times.

 

How do you think I learned decades ago how high the fees are if you do a charge card cash advance.

 

I feel for ya, a little.
My next Vegas trip isn't until March.
Been going to the local casino, shooting craps and building the bankroll.
Had a nice multi trip win streak going.....up 450 units.
I was done, ready to bank it and take it to VEGAS.

I blame my wife......a night out drinking at our usual restaurant bar
and some how she convinced me it was a good idea to go drunkin gambling with the bartenders after their shift.
I'm now out half my whole bankroll.

i did it too many times too. 71 units is a big win so that hurts a lot to loose it but every gambler chases sometimes.

 

Damn, 71 units? That's huge. I most likely would have walked if I was up that much.

The moral of the story is never bet big when you're losing. Wait until you start a win streak to bet big. I've learned that the hard way of many years of gambling.

Been there - done that - more than once. I feel your pain. I actually think being ahead and then getting stupid and losing it, plus your bankroll - is worse than losing right from the start.

Well, you might have won big with that money from the ATM. I know how you feel but as long as you don't make a habit of it. Win some, lose some.

 

I never lost my ENTIRE bankroll, but I had some really, really bad days. Here is what I do-

Drink heavily, then sleep. When I wake up in the morning, I grab another stack from the safe and get back out there.

 

I wouldn't feel bad about losing the 71 units. You never would have got that high in the first place if you quit at 30, or 40, or 50 ect. It's a gambler's catch 22. You can't make the big wins without risking the small ones.

Gambling is a losing proposition in the first place so you can't torture yourself with the "woulda, coulda, shouldas".

The only thing you can do is set rules for yourself and then live by them. I play till money or time runs out and that's it. If I got the budget, the time, and am still having fun, then full speed ahead we go even if that means losing something I had made. A gambler and his winnings were lucky to get together in the first place.

The only thing I'd be bummed about is chasing loses with money you weren't prepared to lose. That's when it stops being fun and it starts being a problem.

 

71 units in BJ is a very big win...

 

FWIW, even at a $5 unit (table) that's still close to $400 worth of profit!

We've all been there man...
I can remember being down to my last BET playing UTH (after losing my entire bankroll of $1000) and literally running it ALL BACK...only to play my videopoker session ($30k coin-in) and come BACK the next night to UTH and this time lose it ALLLL (no redemption)
What I've learned is...set a goal up front, if you achieve it, quit, if you lose the set amount QUIT...
Ohh yeah...I'm still trying to stick to this mantra, lol.

To the OP, sorry man, that feeling sucks and as others have said...we've all been there so this is a good place to vent. Misery loves company.

 

I have never, ever brought my bank card into a casino. That way, if and when I lose the daily budget, I go home. I always know what I can afford to lose, and then promptly lose it! :rolleyes
