there's so many threads with people talking about the old casinos they miss. that's cool if you're into remembering things better than they actually were, but there's others of us who celebrate when the old, shitty casinos are shutdown and would rather see more of them razed right this minute rather than lament their loss.

so here's the thread to talk about the casinos you wish they would bulldoze tomorrow and build something new.

    1. Trashy Castle - pretty decent piece of real-estate wasted
    2. Hooters - just because I hate seeing this thing out my window at MGM when I'm unlucky enough to have a south view. maybe plant some trees and build a park.
    3. Harrah's/Quad/Flamingo/Bally's - OK, maybe I'm just dreaming now, but I'd love to see a new mega-resort opened by a non-MGM/CET/Wynn operator that created some real competition for places like Aria/Bellagio/Wynn/Skylofts and forced them to step up their game to keep pace.

that's what Vegas needs more of.

My list is exactly like yours. Not a big fan of the area where Casino Royale is/was all the way to Ballys

Isn't that what Genting is doing up the street at the old Boyd site? I know very little about that company, but the renderings I saw earlier in the year when that project was announced made me think big and High Roller. Of course, I could have totally misread the renderings. Hello Monte Carlo 2.0

Trashy Castle, I dont even like to look at the cartoonish themed disaster.

Imperial Palace, but the smell would probably still linger.

That property at Flamingo and the Strip is worth a ton of money

I understand it was bought by the Grosvenor "cant spell it" Hotel from NY that has a rep as being a noisy party place. Good fit for Vegas.

I was upset when they knocked down Boardwalk!!

    For places I would raze

    1. Terribles
    2. Tuscany Suits
    3. Polo Club
    4. Ballys heading north until Venetian.

i'm not sure i'd knock down any of them. there are places I hate, like luxor, but there are tons of people who love the place. vegas can't be made up of just mega resorts. there isn't enough "whale" type gamblers to keep them constantly filled. I like playing at some of the smaller places, where people are people and enjoy a conversation at the table. some of the higher end places aren't fun for me because I think some of the people are a bit too stuffy. i'm not a huge player but at tables am always at green chip and above level. I just want to have a good time.

that being said, luxor would get the boot from me but where would Carrot Top perform then?
circus circus and slots of fun wouldn't be far behind.

would love to see some places be built in between the wynn and sahara.

It was a big news item months ago and discussed a lot on this board: https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89815

Genting is a good operator and I've been to two of their casinos in Asia. They can be legit competition for the big names on the strip and have the balance sheet to do whatever they want unlike any US operator.

    Any and all "themed" hotels.

    Also, 2/3 of CET properties.

none of the casinos bother me just for being there minding there own business. :rolleyes2:

i dont go into the ones i dont like because there a lot of casinos i do like so im happy. if they where going to build new fun casinos in there place thats ok,but they keep closing casinos and then leave ugly empty lots all over the strip because they dont have money. instead of tearing down casinos they should fill up all those empty lots first. :peace:

I wouldn't raze the Casino Royale casino, but I would the Best Western. Please, expand the CR!

Replace the Fashion Show Mall with a resort. You can keep the "cloud" up.

Can't wait for Genting to make it to vegas. However, the location is not great. It is more north than Encore, next to Circus Circus. If Genting was located at Monte Carlo and NYNY area, now we are talking business.

Destroy all of CET (IP, Harrahs, etc.) on the east side of the strip and put Genting there.

Haha, funniest thing ever. Even a parking lot would be much better than looking at Hooters.

Reading these posts makes me think of how George Kennan argued we should fight communism during the start of the Cold War - containment!

I have no personal interest in places like Excal, Circus Circus, or NYNY. But they help contain the kids from completely overrunning other properties. Parents won't just stop bringing kids if those hotels disappeared.

I have no personal interest in the malls either but they help contain the girlfriend from pacing around the casino waiting for me to be done gambling. In fact, I wish they built a 4 mile long shoe store right along the side of the strip where they could go and be in heaven while I get my gamble on. :poke:

I have no personal interest in places like Hooters and Hard Rock but they help contain the frat boys from Kansas and Jersey shore types from overrunning other properties. I always ask for an airport view if I'm on that side but I can't recall if Hooters was ever disturbing my field of vision.

The CET casinos on the east side always seem to be hopping when I've seen them (except for Ballys maybe), so they add a lot to the party atmosphere of Vegas. Much more so than a place like Aria, which is one of my favorites, but it might as well be in Lake Tahoe for how serene it is.

The only type of places I think add zero value are casinos like Luxor and Monte Carlo. They have no vibe of any type whatsoever. I bet bus depots in Iowa are more lively. I think they could disappear without any collateral damage or unintended consequences.

    Caesars, Venetian..?

I think getting away from the 'themed' resorts has made Vegas a lot less interesting in recent years. It's the reason I first started going to Vegas way back when. Pyramids, castles, pirates..looked like fun to me.
To each his own I guess.
