Does anyone have a good miracle recovery story?

I was once down to my last $200 and built it back up to $10k.

I once turned $15 into $1600 playing blackjack at the local Indian casino. It was one of those tables where they charge a 50cent ante on each hand just to be dealt cards.

I started betting $5 and just couldn't lose. When I got up to $50, I decided to bet it all because I was "feeling lucky." I kept doubling up hand after hand after hand. I honestly don't remember losing a single hand that entire session. I ended up cashing out like $1650. It was truly a miracle.

However, I've lost 10 times that amount back to the casino since then. So the miracle was short lived.

Many years ago at a local casino i was playing craps and lost all my money. My boss at the time said " your not done" and threw me a five dollar chip. I caught it and in one swipe of the hand threw it to the stickman yelling "snake eyes" box man called out gotcha as the dice were in mid air. Snake eyes comes up and I win. built it up to around $800 on the craps table.

Then decide to go to the black jack table played for a while at smaller bets, then got the big idea to bet the table max which was $199. that hand got aces and split, both second cards were aces and split. So I had 4 hands at 199. i had just turned 21 and that was a huge amount of money to me at the time. Well long story short I lost every hand and was pretty much broke agian. but for a while I had a monster comeback, just didnt last.

One of the biggest recoveries I can remember wasn't even in an actual casino.

It was in the 2010 World Championship of Online Poker's $320 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball event. I had about 4 big blinds with about 170 remaining (63 paid). Then I began to double up a few times. And kept winning. I jumped up all the way to 3rd place with about 90 remaining. But then the heater wore off and became card dead, but I still lasted until 21st place for a very unexpected $680 profit.

My biggest live recovery was also at poker. Was playing a $4/$8 limit mix game with Karina Jett to my left. She was getting hit with the deck and schooling me at the same time. Eventually went to the casino ATM for the first time ever. Down about $250. Eventually she had to leave though for a bigger game, and then my luck turned. Made nearly a full recovery of my loss over the next 8 hours...

In a single 3-hour session of 3-card, (on the day of my return flight) I went from being down $2K to being up $1K. A $3000 turn-around in 3 hours.
    Best single-session win ever!

Mine was just last week. Did a 2 day stint at 2 of the Indiana riverboats. Played at the first one for about an hour and was getting killed on the 3 card poker and Crazy 4 poker tables. So I went on down to the one where I had a room reserved. Things there were a little better there, as in losing my bankroll at a lot slower rate. Went to bed before I went broke. The next morning, sat down at their Crazy 4 poker table with the remains of my bankroll (about $200). I was thinking this game can chew that up pretty quickly if I don't get a few good hands. I didn't really want to go home quite that early. It has a $1 side progressive bet that had passed the $96k mark overnight and hitting that would really make my day (royal flush gets it). A few hands in, I get dealt a 6 high straight flush in hearts. WOOT! That gets 10% of the jackpot. $9614! The other players got a $300 envy bet. Needless to say, I stayed the rest of the day. Later in the day, I wound up back on that table and another player hit a 10 high straight flush, in hearts, and I got the $300 envy bet. With a few other small wins on other games, I went home with that jackpot and over half my original bankroll.

As a high limit slot player, I have had several losing trips turn positive because of big late hits. Went from a 5 grand loss to a 3 grand profit in one day last year at NYNY, for example.

In the long run, a miracle recovery is probably going to benefit the casino, though. Have chased away a lot of money over the years hoping for the turnaround that never materialized.

In all of my trips, only once in my life and believe it or not, it came at McCarran on my way home. I was already down 2k for the trip and said the hell with it and plopped a $20 in a VP machine playing DDB. Around the 6th hand I keep a pair of A's and get the other 2 with a 3 for $500. Finally getting paid I stayed on the same machine, but switched to BP. Hit a Royal holding a lowly A of diamonds.

Still down $500 for the trip, but in a helluva lot better shape than when I left the hotel.

A buddy I was playing with came back from his last dollar in craps to around $300. Bet the dollar on hard six, it hit, he moved it to the pass line and the shooter proceeded to roll thunder.

My best is being down to $10 at Tropicana on craps and some guy going on monster role and getting me up to $1000. There was another guy betting blacks to start who took the place for the equivalent of a luxury Sedan.

I've had a couple nice comebacks.
I would not say miracles but felt fantastic.
Last month at Aria I was in for $3K at dice. All my chips on the table and I'm already late for meeting my wife for dinner so I'm not getting another marker.
I start parlaying every number I hit and in 20 min bought my marker back and walked $3K up.

several actually. one time I was down to my last $500 bet and ran it up to a 60k winner before the end of the night. another time I ran $200 into 25k in a couple of hours, but it wasn't my last $200, just my last $200 on the table. but my biggest miracle recovery was in for 70k and down to my last $2500 - all in - down to 1 card with only 2 outs to win and in 2 hours had back the entire 70k. I've had a couple of other trips where I was in for 60k+ and pulled out another 5k and won it all back on the last night.

but miracle recoveries are bad in my book. every time you make a miracle, you think that you can do it again the next time. 3 or 4 miracles and you think you're invincible. until one time, you keep digging and digging and the comeback never materializes and you just end up stuck a ton.

Shifter, you're so right. That is exactly the scenario than sucks us in the next time. As Steve Wynn says "the way to make money in a casino is to own it". But then what fun would life be without an adrenalin rush. Steve has his too, he just doesn't talk about it. I doubt it's money so the next obvious thing is :wink2:

for each awesome come back I have done, I have an equal melt down that I have done.

seems like its pretty much a wash. Funny thing about melt downs is you forget them and only remember the wins or the epic come backs

bought in for 1200, was down to my last 75. Had to reach in the pocket to double. Ran it back to break even.

I prefer the nights where you only buy in once and play with the house money for the rest of the trip

    Fun one

One that I recall was playing poker. Bought in $200. Loose to big stack who rebates me $20. Built it back to $900. Big stack left with 0.

Mine was last year at Paris. I'm a super low roller (my bankroll is usually no more than like $600 for a weekend) and I was down to my last $40 from playing the table min on blackjack. I had mentally resigned myself to the fact that this wasn't working out, threw it all down on one hand, and I won. Then I won again. And again, and again..... 3 hours or so later I cashed out with $2,000.

Very true. To piggyback on this I had a casino exec tell me once that one of the things that casinos love is when a first time gambler wins at their casino. He said it is great for them for two reasons: One, they will usually consider it "their lucky casino" and usually return. Two, they buy ino the fallacy that winning is easy.:peace::beer:

Two big recoveries from my college years.

One, as a college student, got addicted to the cleopatra slot machine at a local race track. Was up $200, then lost it, then lost $500 more. Left unhappy. Came back two days later with another $500 to win everything back, was down $400 ($900 total) when I won a $1000. It to date is my biggest slot win, and got me back in the positive. I left the casino immediately.

The other was one of my only attempts at online blackjack. Was down $350, decided I'd put in one last $50 before counting my losses and admitting onling BJ was a scam, won my $350 back to get even and cashed out deciding not to be greedy. I still believe online (and video, for that matter) BJ is a scam, but at least I avoided a decent size loss.

The biggest recovery I've had was a few years ago. The trip was 4 nights @ Bellagio and 2 @ PH. I lost every session I played at Bellagio as well as some time at Encore, Bill's, MGM, etc... Moved over to PH and lost for two straight days there too.

Was down about 13k at that point.

The last morning before our flight home I was playing again at PH. There were 3 "near miracle" shoes in a row - it was as if I could do no wrong. Others watched, some would join in for a few hands (and get hammered) - I just kept on winning.

As soon as I hit $13k I called it a trip. I was happy just to get back to even after the previous days. If only I had not been playing "scared" during those shoes I could have had a shifter size win !!!
