I've not heard mention lately about the brews at Ellis Island or their pub food, pizza, BBQ, steak dinner or breakfast specials.

I'd always heard GREAT things about Ellis Island but I've only been there once and had a terrible experience. The food itself was fine but the service was extremely lacking and more or less ruined the day for one person in my party.

To be honest, I'm more than willing to write that off as a anomaly seeing as I've heard a ton of feedback that's the total opposite. My wife and I may even slide by there on our next trip to give them another go.

I ate there a few weeks ago. I had the ribs and they were great. You got a huge whole rack for the price. We didn't have the coupon you were supposed to print out at the players kiosk but the waiter still gave us the cheaper price. The beers were pretty good too. They were your standard micro-brew. I'd go back in a second.

I did not visit the restaurant but their beer is great (6 or 8 choices, Amber, Hefe, Dark etc.), between 15.00 - 19.00 pm only 2 dollars.

I stayed at Bally's for many years and usually had breakfast there 65% of the time. Off the menu steak and eggs was tough to beat..I think around $4.99. Only discovered the ribs about 4 years ago. I start thinking about them 2 months prior to my trip. I always thought they were great and that was confirmed when a KC friend gave them 2 saucy thumbs up.
This solo trip I'm staying at Orleans you can be sure that I'll hop the coast shuttle to Bally's and follow the well worn path to EI.

After checking in the room, Ellis Island is the first place I go (about 5 trips now) this past july we had our worst service but it happened to be just the wrong time (about 25 minutes worth of being short staffed but once the new workers clocked in, all was great!) Didn't help that we were in a rush and only there to eat, otherwise I would have been happy to play VP to pass the time. Personally I don't like their darkest beer, but I love the Al. My buddy said their lite beer is his favorite lite beer and my wife loves the root beer.

I've had their BBQ chicken and ribs combo close to a dozen times over the past few years and always found the food and service extremely good! Looking forward to going back in October. Always spend at least an hour at the bar before dinner having their ale. Like who wants to eat on an empty stomach?

Sending this from Sam's Town. Time to go back into battle!

I have eaten & gambled at EI many times, and will offer my own views and hints.

Unlike many on the board here & elsewhere, I found the BBQ combo plate mediocre to bad - the chicken was dried out and barely edible, and the ribs were just ok. I only ate it the one time (with a half off coupon), so it may have been a fluke.

I have eaten both of the off-the-menu steak dinner and steak & eggs specials, and find them very good and a great value. They use the same filet-cut sirloin for both the dinner & breakfast. If you prefer your steak medium to well done I suggest you ask them to "butterfly" it.

My favorite breakfast is the pork chops & eggs - 2 grilled chops, 2 eggs, breakfast potatoes (great!) & toast. Allow some time for them to cook the chops. This used to be available on their 24 hour menu, but alas no more. However they now have a pork chop dinner, which I found was also excellent.

My lady friend, who is from Texas, said the chicken fried steak was one of the best she ever had.

There are many other menu items around & under $10 including prime rib, shrimp, etc. You can ask to be seated at the karaoke bar, and they will let you smoke there.

On Thursdays the Metro Pizza has 2-4-1 slices & pies. I think they do 2-4-1 pies only on Sundays. Excellent greasy NY-style thin crust pizza.

On Tues & Thurs they have Senior days which include drawings for $50, a free beer, and $1 off a meal coupon. You now need to earn some points to be eligible for the drawings but it's minimal. There's 7/5 Bonus poker for nickels near the sportsbook, and quarter 9/6 JOB & NSUD available.

Their BJ has changed over the years, with Super Fun & H17 6-deck at one point or another, usually $5 minimum, and nearly 3 decks cut off on the 6-decker. With other options available I haven't played much over the last few years other than matchplays. They have a craps & roulette table, but during the week in the daytime I haven't seen much action on them.

You can get a smaller version of the microbrew at the main bar for $1.

The 2-4-1/50% off ACG coupon can be used for the BBQ or the restaurant, but it is for menu items only, so it doesn't include the steak specials. The play $10/get 10 freeplay ACG coupon has a restriction where you have to wait one day to receive the freeplay.

There have been some changes, but you may still need to be a club member & use the kiosk to get the steak dinner special price.

Overall a cool value place, and I am really looking forward to some pizza next week!

Reading this reminded me, as far as the steak special goes I always order it medium. If they butterfly it I feel it makes it too tough, just my opinion.

I have had both steak specials and the breakfast steak is a thin strip steak,
pretty good. Also they are serving small beers to gamblers the last 2 times I have been there[March and June]. The Amber is my favorite.

I've been intending on hitting EI my last two trips, still have not been there. Maybe third time will be the charm. Cheap food makes me smile.

Same here! And that is a perfect picture.

The first time I stepped into Ellis Island I did not even bother to eat there because you know it's divey.

But after hearing so many great reviews on the steak, I had to try it. When I went there and learned there is a separate BBQ section, I had to try it as I prefer BBQ to steak. It has consistently served me since.

You would *never* expect such tastiness from EI but it is amazing.

EI is the main reason we still stay at Bally's. We were considering migrating DT because we were sick of touristy prices on the strip. We started hitting EI each day for breakfast/dinner and the cheap beer and now the strip is just fine.

We love the vibe of the strip, DT is just too dead during the day and we love that we dont have to pay $6 or $7 a beer and pay $12 for cheeseburgers. $7 for a steak dinner is the best value going!

I've been going to EI for more than 20 years and never had a bad meal or bad service there, whether it's in the cafe, the BBQ or Metro Pizza. I haven't tried the sandwich stand yet.

Those garlicky green beans that they serve with the dinners in the cafe are the best I've ever eaten. I've tried to duplicate them at home but they never quite match the ones at EI.

In post #7, while on my solo trip in Sept, I wrote, "Looking forward to going back in October." Well we did go back last month, met some friends at the bar, drank and played some bar top VP, and had the BBQ chicken and ribs. I don't think we've ever experienced the same level of consistently good food and service anywhere than we've gotten at EI. We have one 2-for-1 ACG meal coupon remaining for 2013 that we plan on using next month. Those pics are making me hungry!

Hands down great food, great value. I too went in there the first time and thought "do I want to eat here"? But I broke down, grabbed a seat, and never looked back. I love me some beer, but when I go there, its hard to pass up the brewery root beer. If you are a root beer fan, its delish!
