I am not the most picky eater, but I know there are places with specials or low prices that are on Fremont, but I only will be in the Downtown area 1 or maybe 2 days on my trip. I plan on going for lunch on a thursday, then walk around and drink, maybe some cheap BJ or Video Poker somewhere to try and get future comps, and also dinner before i take the bus back to the strip.

Any ideas what is a good deal or where I should go/try? I am solo male in my 20's if that alters any suggestions.

Stop by Main Street Station... sign up for the players card and try the buffet... one of the best in vegas.

if your there on the weekend try the champagne brunch... 10.99 per person w/ card

MSS...hit the 777 pub... good food, good on-site brews, good atmosphere!
If you're a $25+ bettor, comps will be easy anywhere you go.
If you're betting less than that, I would suggest any of the Boyd properties.
The bConnected program actually offers a lot to lower-level gamblers.

What thenuke said, but I also suggest the 777 brew pub at Main Street. Also, they have a decent happy hour 3-6 pm. Discounts on food and beverage. At the main casino bar, margaritas are a buck and I think their in-house beers are $1.75. Not sure, never really paid for a beer, but I know the price is reasonable.

Ok, I was thinking about heading to MSS to try out their different microbrews. I guess I can't pass it up with all these recommendations.

As far as the betting, I probably will just play cheap blackjack and craps at a few places, but I want to try playing vp or slots somewhere that still uses coins because I have never even seen one in person.

If I do slots, I will probably try to play all at one place and maybe in the future I can get an offer for a few nights.

Just to be clear...in the 777 brew pub beers are normally $3.50. Happy hour M-F house wine, well drinks and their beers are all $2.50.

There are no bartop VP in the 777.

Are you allowed to bring drinks from MSS to go walking back to Freemont? I would like to leave there with a beer or 2 if possible before switching to other beers elsewhere.

Oh sure, I usually ask for plastic rather then walking out with their glasses, but drink-wise almost anything goes for walking around. That includes glassware, but I always feel bad taking a glass out of a place only to eventually dump it in a street trashcan. Even if I have paid for it a thousand times over!

if you like fast finger food I would recommend visiting the california club. http://www.thecal.com/dine/california-club

this is the lanai restaurant/take out place that is by the entrance facing binions at the cal (near the crap tables). prices are resonable (starting from $5), food gets prepared pretty quick and great if you like hawaiian style cooking. I would recommend the chicken wings, nice and crispy and they give you barbeque sause if you want to dip them in something. there are other local hawaiian food like chop steak, fried noodles, saimin, hamburger steak, even "bentos", these are fast food dishes that contain multiple portions of teriyaki beef, spam, chicken katsu and other meats. they don't serve alcoholic drinks though. for take out they serve these in styrofoam containers so you can take these on the go.

so many other places to eat, there is a hawaiian style eatery/sushi bar at the plaza hotel, el cortez has the flame if you want steaks, fremont has a tony romas for ribs, also a fast food lanai area (along with a dunkin donuts) which serves chinese take out food, 4 queens has hugos restaurant. the cal also has the redwood grille and pasta pirate and on the 2nd floor mezzanine they have an aloha specialties restaurant (serves hawaiian style plates). golden gate has a food area, binions also has a food area. might be good to check out the casinos and restaurants at the same time on your visit.

An 8th suggestion for MSS. :)

Also the California works too. Both are Boyd properties and they are fairly liberal with their comps. I don't know what level you are talking about so I can't say for sure. Putting a $20 through a VP machine for example won't get much no matter where you use it. :) Playing for a few hours though will most likely get you something in the future.

2nd option to me would be the D. Decent gaming rules and seem ok with comps.

The one I know I'd avoid unless you are just a big player is Golden Nugget. They want more play than most strip properties for a free room it seems.

I've eaten at many of the places at MSS/Cal and all were decent or better. The buffet at MSS is probably the best for the price you pay.

Last note, you can get the microsbrews while playing at tables/slots. I do not know about playing at bartops though. I get Black Chip all the time while playing blackjack. Comped like any other drink would be.

    Another pop for MSS...
Go to the buffet, you'll thank us later...
Also, there's a lot of 25c coin-dropper VP at MSS, and you can ask for their microbrews while playing!!
The ONLY reason I go downtown is because of MSS...but definitely walk around and see for yourself.

For cheap eats Downtown, I'll go to Lanai Express inside of the Fremont. They have asian, burgers, shrimp cocktail, etc. There's a McD's inside of the D. Gamble at any of the Boyd properties. I only play a little (I'm only a Ruby member) at the Fremont and they send me offers for free rooms & dining vouchers all the time! Discounted room rates for their other properties also. Have Fun & Good Luck!
