Slots Another Tipping Question (re slot hand pay)

I know there have been a few threads regarding tipping on a slot hand pay and there are many different opinions about whether or not to do it, and if so, how much. But what I'm unsure about is whether or not slot attendants share their tips. Typically there are two people involved in the hand pay. One person counts out the money and the other watches and hands over the dreaded tax form. If you're going to tip in this situation, does proper etiquette call for tipping them both, or just the person counting the money? Does anyone know if the tips are shared? Thanks.

 

Don't forget the security guard, and the cocktail waitress that will soon follow with congratulations.

For me, I couldn't tip one and not the rest. I can understand the case for not tipping at all, even if I do tip myself, but I can't see giving one of the posse $20 and trying not to meet the other's eyes.

 

I remember loooong time ago when I hit a royal at mss (1000) I tipped the slot person 40 bucks and the cocktail waitress 20 bucks. Then about 15 minutes later I hit another royal at the same machine, I gave the slot lady another 40 bucks. (she was really sweet, and we're friends now) But I guess when you have all that money all of a sudden you get really generous. :confused2:

 

My normal tip is 20 dollars for a royal. If two shows up, I give them 10 dollars each.

 

I don't tip for hand pays at all and I generally a very generous tipper. I just don't see the reasoning. If the point is to share the wealth I'm not into that commie shit.

 

As an alien I have 30% of my handpays confiscated by the US government and some times a few extra % by the state government - that's enough of a contribution to the general well being of the US citizenry for me!

To me, it would be like tipping someone at the casino cashier when I convert chips to cash.

 

I occasionally tip the cashier $1 for this. I did last time because after a poker session I came to her with very dirty stacks.

Also I am definitely tipping a hand pay because I have never got one.

 

I never tip a hand pay, unless a hand job came with it.

 

Buddy hit 2 grand on a royal at Gustav's , Guy came out made him sign some forms wanted to take taxes etc. and tip him ? :confused2: I Told him to keep it all, we tipped the bar tender $50, since he was there for our 3 hours of play prior to the hit. needless to say our glasses never went empty the rest of the night $50 well spent IMOP

 

When I hit a hand pay, it is usually $10 each, but now MSS only sends 1 person with the cash and paperwork, so I give $20.

On a hand pay, the bartender at MSS usually gets $60. Lesser amounts at casinos where they don't know me.

As you can see from this thread, there is no "standard", to each his own. I like sharing my good fortune.

 

$20 minimum. If larger than the typical $1,200 jackpot, or if I'm doing really well, maybe more. At my local, I know they share tips, so not a problem just tipping one of them.

 

Typically the dealers in a casino share tips so the slot people probably do too. The largest handpay I've ever had was around $1600, for which I'll tip $20, figuring it will be shared by all involved. For a larger handpay ($4K dollar royal or bigger), I would probably be more generous. I find tips to be an investment in karma.

 

I know that at Aria, Mirage, Bellagio and Wynncore, they pool their tips. I generally tip 1% on handpays. I hope you hit many!

 

My guess is they do not actually share tips, so unless some employee comes on and says otherwise that is what I go with.

This is only an educated guess because of what I see others dealing with tips. When I give a few bucks to the bellman, he sticks them in his pocket. When I tip the guy getting me a cab, he puts it in his pocket.



Now I wouldn't be surprised if certain workers had arrangements with others to maybe smooth out their tips week to week. What I'm doubting is an organized thing managed by the casino.

I emailed two bartender friends at MSS and there the slot people do share all the tips for hand pays.

 

My local casino slot attendants share tips. On my 40k handpay, I tipped 1k ...they escorted me to the "private" cage to handpay me. They asked if I wanted to take a pic with the slot...I said "hell no!". All my other handpays over 10k, I tipped a couple hundred.

 

Glad to see most people tip, and a set amount. Tipping a percent makes zero sense to me.

The work for a $1,200 or $2k or $5k payout is about the same. Maybe a bit more if you do a check or something special with the funds. I often tip in the $10-$20 range. If I waited forever, it may be nothing. But a percent? Yea, as soon as they chip a percent of my losses. After all, the last few handpays did not even cover my losses.

 

We tip the server more for a $60 steak than we do for a $25 pasta dish at the same restaurant. I think it would be hard to argue that he/she has to work harder bringing us the steak.

I’m not saying it’s wrong to tip a set amount. Tipping is, after all, optional. And frankly, I have a feeling that those of us who tip slot attendants at all are in the minority. I just wonder why you think it makes “zero sense” to tip a percentage in one instance but accept it (I assume you accept it, if not I apologize for questioning your consistency) in another, very similar situation.
