Just the rates if you are to go pick up a limo or sedan outside once you land rather than prehire

The only one I know and have used a few times is a sedan for $38 + tip.

As far as I know, the rates are the same whether you pre-hire or arrange curbside, the only difference is that with a "meet & greet" pre-hire, the clock starts ticking when your plane lands.

The rates are on the companies' websites.

    I think we paid 60.
Of course we got abotu 15 $ worth of "free" water since there were 5 of us.

Its a little cheaper but you do not get the guy standing there with a sign ...

Also you often get whats next in line, so we got a SUPER strech for the 5 of us ..we could have held 5 more.

When you hire a limo you pay by the hour. The driver doesn't care how many stops you ask him to make during that hour.
Just be aware that if your time exceeds one hour, you may have to pay for the second hour. In our experience most drivers won't charge the additional hour if you exceed your time by 15 minutes or less. In those cases we tip the driver a little more.
Unlike cabbies, it is very rare to find a jerk limo driver - regardless of which limo company employs them.

I've done that and yeah, hiring curbside is the way to go, an hour is enough time to make a supermarket stop and get to your hotel.

I'll even recommend a couple of stores, depending on where you're staying:

Staying north of Flamingo: Vons on E Twain. Large, updated, should have everything you want.

Staying south of Flamingo: Albertsons on W Tropicana at Jones. Large, updated, should have everything you want. It's a good 2 or 3 miles west of the strip, but I had no problem getting from the airport to the store to Aria in under an hour. The manager even grabbed a couple of boxes for me to throw all the bags in.

There are Vons and Albertsons stores closer to center strip, but both of the ones I've been to were smallish and kinda dingy.

How much did this cost? Staying at the aria in a few weeks and might be a good idea. Would be great to make the supermarket stop on the way to the hotel.

    airport limos

Typically rates are $35 to $45 for sedan, and 45-60 for a limo. The vehicles at the airport are tariffed as a transfer so it is a slightly cheaper than an hourly rate. If they are busy, it really is at drivers discretion on how fast they will get you to your destination. Also, one limo company pulled of the airport, so now certain days and hours the selection isn't going to be as good as it was before. If you feel the need, limo companies do offer a small discount if you prepay for roundtrip. the biggest thing to do for booking your pickup at the airport is either get an hour and half and just do a nicer longer trip, see the strip, make your stops. You can also have them meet you 30 minutes after you land instead of your actual landing time. Sometimes you might have to wait, but I know that most drivers will see it and actually get there early. The reason why companies do that, because they never know how many bags, how fast baggage claim will be and they get charged per hour by airport.

I believe at the time I did it, it was $38/hour plus $5 fuel surcharge, so $43 for the car, and I gave the driver $60, so $17 tip. This was for a town car sedan. I was solo, and there was room in the trunk for my one large, one small suitcase and the banana box full of grocery bags.

I think most companies have hiked the rate for a sedan by $5/hour or so since then.

Avis has the concession for MGM properties now and I've always found their rates very high, so doing a sedan can be cheaper than renting for this purpose. It's probably not cheaper than doing a cab and then $18 for Vons delivery, but if you buy your own stuff, you don't have to be around when Vons shows up, and you save a bell tip.

I didn't want to open a whole new thread for this different, but related question.

Does anyone know whether casino VIP services will send over a limo to pick up a group of 4 or 5 players? We have a group of 4 (possibly 5) people coming in on the same flight, two of whom are rated players, but not high rollers by any means.

I figured it can't hurt to call, but I also realize that we are coming in on a flight that lands on a Friday at about 4 p.m., which I'm sure is a prime time for the weekend arrivals of the casino's bigger players and the limos may be all booked up. Would the casino possibly apply the limo tranport against Express Comps?

Probably a pipe dream and we will just need to book a third party limo, but I figured it can't hurt to ask.

Oh! As you can see below the casino is the Mirage.

Can you negotiate with the driver and do have to take the next sedan or limo in line or can you pick any to take you?

The last time I was there I got into an argument with a couple of drivers that told me I had to take the next in line and the driver wasn't going to negotiate with me. It was an SUV and I really didn't want an SUV but I ended up taking it because I really didn't feel like starting my vacation off that way.

    I think he charged me $50 or $60, but I can't remember.

Yes, $60 or $65 seems about right for a limo, IIRC.

    Pipe dream, yes.

You'd absolutely have to have a relationship with a Mirage host to pull this off and at the very least you'd have to be platinum with a well established history of play if you didn't.

It sounds like in your case, there's not a chance of it happening.

We've used Presidential numerous times and regardless of how long it takes the luggage to come in, I've never had a driver tell me it was more than the $100+/- RT and every driver has always stopped at the liquor store or wherever we wanted to go. It's even less than that if you do a town car instead of a limo. They always check the flights too so the driver knows if your flight is late or delayed so they don't just stand around the airport on your dime. Consequently, I always tip $20 each way so that ends up being a 40% tip on the RT price but for $140, versus what $60
($25 each way + $5 tip) for a cab, I'll spend that extra $80 all day long to start my trip off right w/ a great ride, great driver versus some whining cabbie. It only took us a few cab rides in a dirty cab and complaining driver to say, enough of that $hit...I'm on vacation.:poke:

Amen to that! I have recently come to this same conclusion. Got tired of cabbies long-haulin me and giving me attitude when I told them the route I wanted to take. Starting a Vegas vacation with your blood boiling is NOT the way to go. Hop in the limo, set the radio to your choice of music and enjoy the ride.

Gotta go with Dean Martin on this one.

The first trip, I pre-arranged the special with Presidential. The wife was thrilled, the driver was awesome. Offered to stop at the store.

The second trip we used a cab. Driver didn't speak to us, though we tried to talk to him. He took the tunnel. Since we were going to Rio, I didn't argue as I have no idea if this is the right way or not. It wasn't that it was horrible, it just didn't make the start of our vacation extraordinary.

The third trip, I pre-arranged with Presidential again. The driver was not as awesome as our first one, but he was nice and pretty sharp. He actually found half our luggage, which mysteriously came in on a different carousel than the one with our flight number. He stopped at a store.

I'll still use cabs occasionally during our trip. We've probably had more friendly cab drivers than not. But I really like having the trip start off special. I only get one vacation a year.
