The 2-deck games suck. No DAS, even at the $25 level. Inexcusable.

The 6-deck game is pretty decent. All 3:2, H17, DOA, DAS, RSA, LS, pen 75%. All games dealt from shoe- no CSM's. Games available for $5 mornings, then $10 min afternoon and evenings. Same for the weekends.

    H17- dealer hits soft 17
DOA- double down on any 2 cards
    DAS- double after split permitted
    RSA- re-split Aces permitted
    LS- late surrender available
CSM- continuous shuffle machines (no shoe/cut card)

Keyser has it spot on. I actually played the 6 deck instead of the double deck game. There is also a high limit area at $50/ hand, but I never made it in there. Good luck!

I like their "Free Bet" BJ. It's a six deck game I believe, but you get to double and split without putting out an additional bet. So if you get a pair of 8s, you can split them, the dealer will put out a gold coin marker, and then proceed as normal, if you get a 3 you can double for free, and the dealer will put a second coin out. If you end up winning the hand, you're paid the same as if you actually put your own money up, if you lose, you just lose your initial bet. Of course the catch is that all hands push on a dealer 22.

I usually play it when I make it down there, and you can really rip some good sessions off when the DD and Splits are coming frequently.

Can you double on any hand? or is it just 10 & 11?

You can split anything but 10s (for free, you can split 10s with your own money if you're foolish) and you can double only on 9,10,and 11 I believe. IIRC you should double and split anytime that it is allowed see the highest EV from this game. For the most part the strategy isn't much different than normal BJ, other than you are more aggressive on DDs and splits (for example you would double a 9 or 10 against any dealer card including a 10/A, same with splitting).

I find this game to be a nice little change up from normal BJ.

ETA: I looked at Wizard of Odds site to check on this, and it appears that the above is correct. On the site they also noted that you can double at any time on 9, 10, or 11 so if you get a 2,3, and hit a 6 for 11 you can double. However, I don't know if that's accurate or not, as I don't remember being able to do that.

Basic strategy for "Free Bet Blackjack" is different from traditional blackjack.

Avoid this game unless you know what you are doing. Nothing fun about throwing money away.

When I was there last year, the Golden Nugget actually had a decent game in their "party pit" (bar46?), but when I returned last month, they had converted to 6:5. Sigh..
