I am really unsure of what the difference is between booking thru VRBO and booking through MGM Signature?

    VRBO is cheaper.

Less service? Is this the main difference? Are the suites the same? Looked after? Not run down etc?

    Thanks

some of the prices are looking good for my dates.

Good question... it seems like you are renting someones place, people live in the Signature. I'm reading a listing now, and the guy says he'll stock it for you, it has a computer...

Versus checking in and renting a room from MGM... most of the condos on the strip are just owned by the hotels and they rent them out since they couldn't sell them. So it just runs like a hotel. This is like this guys owns a condo and he's renting it out to you, at a discounted rate.

Yeah. I think the key is finding a responsible owner with good reviews. But the reviews could be done by the owner or friends etc. who knows.

I think you could end up with problems finding the owner if there are issues at the condo.

Very interesting, a few other places, have similar listings. Palms, trump.

I guess the owners can rent it cheaper because they bypass mgm ?

Are there websites listing these properties that owners are renting?

It is just like any other vacation rental, there are pros and cons. Possibly cheaper, possibly better stocked, possibly worse service. I knew one person who rented one there and they were out of something, or needed some service, nothing major and they just simply had to contact the owner to contact the front desk, wasnt a big deal at all. I doubt any of these places are "run down", I dont think its much of a gamble as compared to any other VRBO rental.

VRBO is a good option. I think many of these condo's were bought by investors banking on price appreciation Now they just want to make enough on rentals to pay the overhead HOA taxes etc. until they flip it.

Or like me they bought for their own use but only use a few weeks a year so rent it out the rest to reduce the cost of ownership.

Ive book through priv. owners twice and stayed at MGM Sign. both times. I saved hundreds from what MGM wanted to charge me.

First, I researched the people who had the most positive comments as well as which offered me the best price(of course). It was crazy to see that some people would charge $100-$200 more for the same room.

The last guy I booked through was simple to deal with. Answered all of my questions. Check-in, simple. Room, just what I expected. However, I booked 5 days, including the weekend, in October during a busy convention week for a mere $550. I thought this was good as the best price I would get through MGM for the same nights and type of room was $1100.00.

This wasn't a problem for me but may be for some... maid service is typically not included. Meaning, they do not empty trash or refresh towels. This was not a problem for me because there were tons of towels and I didnt have much trash. I always bring a few grocery bags anyways just in case. There was a sign posted in the room to call a specific number if you needed a cleaning but it was around $40. I dont need my bed made that much.

If you have any other questions, lemme know.

i know getting the room from private owners/vrbo could be cheaper than book direct from mgm. however, it'll also risk the chance of the room getting comped and/or $20 trick upgrade, right?

vrbo is great for discounted rooms but you will not get it comped.
you can use vrbo all over the world to rent houses and apartments much safer then craigslist

COMPED, meaning if you book thru the Casino and gamble your eyeballs out they may COMP the room at the end of your stay. Obviously renting thru an owner that will not happen.

Aww thanks. I don't gamble much. And only slots usually and maybe a bit of black jack :)

    No comped rooms for me.

Nearly all the units are individually owned, MGM have a few that they couldn't sell originally. Therefore whether they are rented through MGM or through a private owner and rented through another website they should not be comped unless it is agreed beforehand and the unit is one that belongs to MGM.

The back up will certainly be better if you book through MGM if there are problems but will probably be more money, although there are frequent deals on the Signature/MGM website which includes various extras which third parties cannot offer and may make the overall package cheaper with MGM.

Also you may not have a full cancellation policy if booked elsewhere but I'm not sure what the individual owners terms are. They could all vary.

After doing a bit more indepth research i think i will pass on the vrbo etc. there must be a reason they are quite a bit cheaper. And cacellation policy is wishy washy depending on who its rented from.

I believe las vegas suites manages lots in the MGM.

    Thanks

Just from personal experience, I never had a problem. But I dont blame you one bit for backing out. I was lucky to find two good enough "sellers" for the MGM Sign. who were honest and easy to get a hold of.

I imagine they are cheaper because they'd rather rent the place out for cheap and make a few bucks then let it sit dormant. There really is no work on their end rather then just trusting you and your payment.
