First time in Vegas this July for my wife and me. We are arriving late on a Monday evening (about 10:30 p.m.) and going to the Signature at MGM Grand. Not partial to shuttles, so thinking of taking a cab.

I have two questions for someone...

1.What is the most direct cab route from McCarran to our hotel at that time of night (street names)?

2.Should I just forego the cab and take a towncar?

    Thanks for the help!

Tell the cab driver to take Paradise Rd, not the tunnel. Traffic should not be too heavy at that time. Fare should be around 12-15 dollars.

Easy peasy, should exit airport via Swensen, turn left on Harmon, turn left on Audrie, boom, you are there, maybe 3-4 miles max.

Taxi should be maybe $10 plus tip, towncar would be $50 plus tip??? Budget? Personal choice?

Unless things have drastically changed at McCarran, Paradise is one way south of Trop, going into airport. Swensen runs parallel to Paradise and is the exit out of the airport going North to Trop.

    Gotta love Google Maps

Swenson to Harmon. Though stranger things have happened, that would be a REALL LONG HAUL if the cabbie took the tunnel.

I think we will cab it, as per your instructions. Thanks to all posters for the good advice.

Will cab drivers give you attitude, drive fast etc if you ask not to take tunnel? I am assuming that as Mandalay Bay is close to airport no need to take tunnel?

You definitely should not be taking the tunnel to Mandalay Bay (or MGM). That being said, I've absolutely have drivers get in my face about it, including the guy who responded to my request for "Swenson to Tropicana" by turning around and screaming, "Who the fuck do you think you are? Why would you tell me how to do my fucking job?"

Thanks for the insight - had a similar question. And good to hear that I can still get a NYC cabbie experience in Vegas....

Cabbie driver would have a very bad day if he spoke to me in that fashion.

you should have reported him to the taxi authority and he would lose his job, there is no excuse for that he is just a taxi driver and is supposed to do as he is told.

well when a place has an extremely poor reputation for cab drivers ripping customers off even though it is a well known issue and they "attempt" to correct it every so often the cab drivers should be getting in the faces of their thieving co-workers not customers that wish to avoid having a confrontation right from the start

if someone in the service industry (one in a place loaded with cheats and thieves in that industry) can't deal with a customer making a simple request to avoid all of that they should find a new job

hell I read a blog of someone that is a member of this forum the other day and they did an "experiment" with going from the airport to downtown and then the trip back......even after telling the driver instructions on the trip back the driver still headed down the freeway and then acted ignorant when called on it.....the person decided against a confrontation at the airport over it since they had a wait and a flight ahead of them and did not wish to start it off like that

drivers should get in the face of their co-workers not customers that do not want to be cheated or have to have a post-scam confrontation
