So I'm waiting at the airport for Allegiant to get their act together since the plane has been delayed by an hour. In the meantime I'm seeing a lot of families with young kids everywhere and babies already crying. I'm not looking forward to this flight, but in my opinion parents do not need to take kids to Vegas on a vacation, or if they have to at least make them behave. The kids around me now are screaming and yelling and running around knocking people's bags over, etc. :grrr:

Ugh, that's my nightmare! For your sake, I hope they settle down and fall asleep once they are on the plane.

For those who like the Readers digest version

For those who don't want to read the numerous posts that will follow here 's my fearless prediction on how the rest of this thread will go:

    1) there will be a slew of people enthusticaly agreeing that kids have no business in Vegas;

    2) these will be followed and interspersed with people who try to make the argument that Vegas is just fine for kids, all offering various rationale which will run the gamut from reasonable/good to just silly;

    3) the thread will take a bit of a nasty turn when someone doesn't like what someone else says, flames will erupt and Sonya will lock it down with her usual gentle plea for people to be nice to each other and respect others opinions.:peace:

Let me be the first, and probably only, person to say that i dont mind kids in vegas.

Its good to expose kids to different experiences.

I went to vegas as a kid and we had fun. Not as much fun as now but still fun.

I also think they sort if keep everyone on their toes so they dont get too wild. Of course if I am talking to my buddies and a lady strolls by with some kids I will naturally tone it down a bit.

Doesnt hurt me in the least bit to show some courtesy.

I went to Vegas as a kid and it sucked.....of course Circus Circus was the only thing for kids back then and the casinos were much more strict about kids even being near the casino floor than they are today

fortunately it was just a pass through on the way out to California so it was not the main part of the vacation

from the point of view of "me" I could really care less what less than intelligent or thoughtful people do with their kids and their vacation, but it is a terrible vacation for a kid and that is not going to change anytime soon and they have tried to change that in the past and it failed

there are multiple issues with a Vegas "family" vacation.....the #1 issue is that everything related to what "adults" can do is something that kids really can't even remotely be a part of and on the flip side everything that is what is kid related pretty much has next to nothing to do with the main points of Vegas which are drinking, gambling and whoring

without taking into account all the things that kids will see in Vegas (and they will see it because only 1% of the people are going to "tone it down" with kids around) it is just the fact that Vegas is not for kids

and I know plenty of people will come around and point all the various individual things that a kid could do or might find interesting, but to remotely come close to hitting all of those you are not going to have a vacation you are going to have a thoroughly regimented movement from place to place and venue to venue rushing around, waiting in line after line, picking up and moving from property to property over and over to the point that a large portion of your vacation will be standing around waiting in a line or waiting in traffic to see something for less time than it took to get there or wait to get in.....HARDLY something that holds the attention span of a "little adult" because kids ARE NOT LITTLE ADULTS they are kids with a very short attention span (even ones that don't "need" meds) and kids are smart enough to know that a vacation is not rushing all around from place to place

pretty much everything that you can do with kids in Vegas is going to be over priced relative to an also overpriced place that is for a family vacation....who wants to pay a bunch of money for a pool lounger for a hotel pool for kids to sit in when there are massive numbers of places that are more family oriented with huge pools and free lounge chairs galore....does going round and round on the same "water feature" at Mandalay Bay really hold the attention of a kid for longer than an hour.....maybe, but probably not much longer and for the price there are a million places that are better that are not Vegas

eating out is pretty over priced now in Vegas and to get any type of deals besides cheap hotdogs or something like that again you need to regiment your meal times......hey kids we just paid $100 for a family of four for "gourmet" burgers...oh no wait we didn't because we packed up and hit the road and got some "deal" or drove through In and Out....yes plenty of other vacation spots will have over priced food, but not as bad as Vegas which has gone from a great deal on decent food to a terrible deal on mostly decent or slightly above food and really expensive for good food

crowds just out and about when you are walking around.....and yes Disney has crowds, but it is crowds of other families and kids not crowds of drunks, woooo girls, porn slappers, beggars, dirty character idiots (talk about spoiling something for a kid.....daddy Sponge Bob smells like cheap gin and BO), whores, people not paying attention because it is ok to smash into other adults when you walk around and on and on......of course the people that take kids to Vegas often use the stroller as a defense mechanism of the pack of knee biters as a blocking unit :rolleyes2:

Vegas is a great place to vacation with kids if your idea of a vacation is everybody gets pretty much nothing they really want and everybody has to suffer bored while the others get what they are there for and at the end of the "vacation" all involved need vacation away from each other......and you pay too much and waste way too much time going all around from place to place and single "attraction" to single "attraction" to really call it relaxing or enjoyable

the way you know this is an absolute truth is the fact that Vegas itself actually tried to cater to families and pulled the plug very early on in that attempt and lets face it the people that currently "run" Vegas usually don't pull the plug early on anything they tell themselves that they just need to go bigger and spend more before it becomes a noticeable failure they can't ignore and massive money has been flushed away.....so if the people that run Vegas noticed early on that family and Vegas was a massive failure before huge money was lost by all then you sure as hell know that Vegas and family is a massive failure

As a kid, we went to Florida in March/April (Sarasota - Lido Beach and Orlando) a few times and also to Yellowstone/Mt. Rushmore and we really enjoyed it. We mostly stayed in/near Chicago with annual trips to Great America, to a lake in the NW suburbs and annual two week stays at Boy Scout camp in SE Michigan.

I would not want to go to Vegas as a kid - there is nothing to do there beyond the pool and perhaps a trip to Wet and Wild.

I'm sorry but I sort of chuckled at this line. Most parents while traveling with a kid that is screaming and crying is trying to do everything in their power to try and get them to stop. They are embarrassed and stressed out to the max knowing people don't want to hear their kid screaming. If there was some magic "screaming child off button" Iam sure the parent would use it. There is nothing they can do to "make them behave"

Now if the parents are ignoring the kid and oblivious to their kids running wild that's different then the poor parent trying to calm a child down and having zero success.

I used to be the guy that said to myself, "can't you shut that kid up"

Then I had kids and now I say "those poor parents, I hope for their sanity the kid quiets down. I think Ill buy them a drink"

For me, a good set of earplugs solves the kiddy airplane noise.

As for children in LV, I was taken there regularly as a child and don't think much about it. And, the relatively few children I encounter in LV have not been a problem. Personally, it's a non-issue.

Personally it doesn't bother me that much. I don't think that is a place for a kid's vacation, but who cares what I think.:poke:

Not that long ago I had a child in the seat behind me that decided he was going to kick my seat the entire flight. Several pleas to the parents would made it stop temporarily, but then it would start again.:grrr:

Noise cancelling headphones and a movie do nothing for this situation. A child crying on a flight doesn't bother me, but this did a lot!

I dislike children in Vegas as much as I like children who come with their parents to NFL names. I then get evil looks when I curse...but I am a Browns fan and its highly warranted.

Not speaking of anyone here, but I'd take children in Vegas anytime..anyday over some idiotic drunks in Vegas that start drinking from sun up to sun down. Some are loud, rude, obnoxious and they smell like stale alchohol and body stink:vomit:

You do realize that regular families (like yours and mine) live in Nevada and there is much, much more to Vegas than drinking and gambling? Adults and children fly to Vegas to visit relatives, attend weddings, birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, funerals and other regular family events while not once stepping foot in a casino.

I think you're assuming that all children on the plane are just there to ruin your gambling vacation. Not so! Maybe families are flying to Vegas because the flights are plentiful and cheap and they are renting a car and going somewhere else (just as we did in April...flew to Vegas and drove to the Grand Canyon). Perfectly normal families live in Vegas and they don't involve drinking and gambling in their day to day life. To think that kids have no right to share your Vegas plane space is just ridiculous.

You need to remember the big picture rather than just thinking about your drinking and gambling vacation. There is much more to Las Vegas than gambling - real families live there too!

And in my opinion, people should not tell other people how to raise their kids. My daughter went with us for part of the our trip in June, she loved it. If the people around us in Vegas didn't like that she was there, well that is too bad.:poke:

I'm sure the money parents are spending on their kids while in Vegas is also helping Vegas economy as well

I would rather be stuck near some kids instead of in front of, behind, or god forbid in the same row with a couple of people who chit chat with each other throughout the entire four hour flight.

As long as they are not kicking my seat, I can handle it. Noise cancelling headphones and a little "medicine" for me. I also only go to Vegas when the kiddies are in school so that does help. 5 hour flight I don't need any little or drunk kids driving me nutty. I agree the parents of the children "usually" try to do the best they can on a plane. No matter where you are going.

Sure, kids can go to Vegas or wherever else their parents decide to take them. But if they are running like maniacs in the airport, then perhaps they aren't old enough for that type of travel. Or their parent lack the maturity or intelligence to recognize that they should be teaching travel manners to their kids and not expecting kids will be kids to be okay.
