I have a five night trip scheduled in a couple weeks with my 30 year old son. I used the CET rate schedule and found all my five nights are comped at the Flamingo but only two nights at Caesars (obviously), so I opted the Flamingo.

Now here is the ethical question....On the third day of my trip, a good friend of mine from California is coming to LV and wants me to go with him to Zion NP for three days. His schedule will only allow him to go those three days. I hadn't seen him for years and I really want to spend some time with him. My son said he would be fine the remainder of the trip solo and encouraged me to go to Zions with my friend. The Flamingo room incidentals and resort fees will be charged to my CC.

Think I should "officially" checkout my comped room on the third day and charge the third, fourth, and fifth night on my CC for the remainder of my son's stay? I'm trying to "justify" leaving it all comped by planning to double my normal play for the first two nights, but that still seems kinda dishonest but am I making too big of a thing of this?

    OPINIONS?

If you leave to go to Zion, you can leave your son the free room no problem, but, your ADT will be lowered from no play the last 2 or 3 days, so your offers will get trimmed as well.

If you don't ever plan on staying with CET again, then go for it! If you don't mind the offers getting smaller, then let your son stay in the comped room.

If you really feel bad, then pay for the whole thing. But remember, you already have a comped room reserved, if you cancel that, they may still trim your future offers. It's something else to think about now!

Nothing wrong with your plan. It would be silly to check out and then check back in. Just enjoy your trip to Zion and don't give it a second thought.

Make sure to add him as an additional guest when you check-in, so he doesn't run into any problems while you're away.

1 - Leave him with the room

2 - Make sure he is on the registration in case his key is lost, not working, etc

3 - If he plays much, use your card.

4 - If he plays very little... well, do not be POSITIVE that your ADT will suffer. My belief is that only those days with actual ACTIVITY will count. So, maybe 2 of the hotel days will not count. Maybe.

No, it will still count as a five day trip. It will show that the other days have no activity, even though you are still there. Believe me with this.

But, to answer the OP's question, while I admire your honesty in dealing with this issue, I would say that it is OK to leave your son with the room. If you feel like playing a little stronger on the days that you are there, then do it.
If not, don't feel compelled to over play what you have budgeted.

Yeah, the ADT will take a hit a little, but if it's just once in awhile, it won't matter as much and your offers won't take as much a hit. Then again, if your "offers" are really just the comped room, then most likely you will still get your rooms comped in the future.

Don't think too much. You have already "earned" the comped they offered you, and you will most likely earn more.

Everyone low plays once in awhile occasionally, so it's OK to be comped and not play on those days.

You earned the 5 nights just make sure your son is on the room. Enjoy Vegas and the time with your friend in Zion. No worries!

If you had 5 nights comped and $500 in free play (basically $100 a day) would you only use $200 of the freeplay? I think not...leave the kid in the room and enjoy your trip to Zion.

Wow, great responses from all! Interesting, no one (so far) seemed to be troubled with the problem that I initially had. I now feel much better knowing at least some of you would do what I plan on doing. Yes, I accept the fact my future offers may diminish a bit, but it will be well worth it to spend time with a long time friend.
More than likely, I will go home from Zion and let my son video check out from the hotel. Hopefully that will not cause problems wih TR.

Thanks to all for the feedback.

I got a comped room through CET for a friend of mine and his GF over memorial day while I was staying on a comp through MGM. I checked in at Harrahs, put his name on the room, gave him the keys, and never stepped foot back in Harrahs the whole trip...he checked out no problem.

    There's no ethical dilemna here.

The only real dilemna is a practical one. Max out your savings on this trip, or worry about getting reduced future offers for low playing a stay. And having low and no played CET and had my offers tank, but recover quickly after future trips, I'd say don't worry about it. I wouldn't even double your play on the other days.

You don't owe the casino anything here. No one is getting fired if you do this. There isn't a host whose numbers you are messing up. This is a computer based marketing offer. Its is Caesars making a bet with you ... and YOU ARE THE HOUSE for this one. Their computers think if they put you up for 5 days for free (fees excluded), they'll win it all back from you and more. They are betting on you being a sucker and nothing says you have to make them right.

If I were you I'd book the 5 and go off with your friend. Don't bother gambling anything beyond what you enjoy doing. And if you think you'll be back within a year, book another comp before you go on this trip in case the offers tank.

Compared to some of the schemes we see here and elsewhere, this is like 0.1 on a scale of 0 to 100.

If you low play sufficiently, you will be punished via the TR algorithm and your comp availability will go down until you do penance.

The words ethical dilemma and what I can get for free at a casino are two concepts that shouldn't be used together. Do what you want, but understand the consequences -- your future offers may suffer. But in that regard, offers are only one good trip away, so it's not like this is a lifetime effect.

comps are given based on past play. you should never feel guilty about not playing to some level because of the upfront comps you were given. the room and whatever else upfront is based on your play last trip(s). if you play lower than they expected this trip, your offer next time will go down, that's it. feeling guilty is silly.

Done this multiple times for friends and family. I am pretty sure I paid them dearly for those rooms already.

Correct. No casino has an ethical dilemma about you blowing through your bankroll and then hitting up the bank/ATM/TTO portion of your credit line for more. Take what you can get based on past play, you've earned it.
