Anyone have any keno strategies that they would like to share for video keno? I know most times its just luck but doesn't hurt to ask. My dad used to say that its your fault when you lose cause you're the one who picked the wrong numbers. :nono:

The house edge on Keno is 20-25%. If you know that upfront and enjoy the game, great!

    You could use my lottery numbers: 2 10 12 17 31 33. Yea, that's worked so well for me:cry:

Thats regular keno, like the kind you play in a keno lounge or where they have runners in the coffee shop. The OP is talking about video keno, like you find on the Game King machines or stand alone units - those typically have a house edge of only 2-8%

You are correct, I misread the original post, but, I see house take of 8-12% on video keno.

I find my best strategy is to have a generous aunt who loves keno. When she wins she sends me some money..

Seriously, I know the house edge is bad but I find the caveman keno with the multiplier eggs is an okay game to play when I am at the bar sucking down free beers.

I tend to either play my favorite numbers or I like to group numbers in fours so they make sort of a square. (4,5,14,15 for example). Then have one or two numbers picked in one of the corners or far away. This has paid a few times.

it is a great time killer waiting for the next event. I played nickel keno this last trip on a 4 card game much like you did, a group of numbers on each card and 4 chances (20 cents) on each roll of the keno balls. I HATE the caveman keno with all the noise and such as it is usually most irritatingly high in volume. I hit 6:6 for 3000 nickels while passing the time. It was fun but expectations were low so not sure about entertainment value unless you score.....good luck.

    Thanks,

I dont like that caveman keno also, so annoying but I guess others like it. I never used to like keno but its addicting. I usually just try to get 5/5 but this trip, I'm going to chase the bigger ones like 7/7 make the money worthwile if I get lucky.

I use the "Lost" numbers - 4 8 15 16 23 42 - once per trip just for kicks. Not only would the win be great, but the inevitable newspaper article would be a hoot.:peace:

After reading this thread I went to play Keno for the first time yesterday. I only played a nickel per (hand? Draw? Game?)since I wasn't even sure how it worked. It passed the time and was interesting to look at. After I lost the dollar I put in I went home to read about it some and was absolutely shocked how profitable it can be, especially when compared to VP which I play a lot. This is the article I read http://www.casinocenter.com/video-keno-vs-video-poker/
I woke up with this on my mind so I'm going to test the waters and see what its all about in about a half hour. After looking up the jackpots for the month of June, 30-40% (including all slots) are hit on a single keno game called Pot-o-gold. I'll be back with my findings this afternoon.

I wrote something similar to the article as a reply to a thread last year about chasing the royal flush, where somebody was saying they like to deviate from standard play to try and get that elusive Royal...

    Basically in a nutshell:
The odds of making a Royal Flush are about 41,000 to 1 and that pays 800 to 1 (4,000 quarters if betting 5 quarters per play).
But with a pick 5 in video keno the odds of catching 5 for 5 is 1551 to 1 and it pays 804 to 1 (4,020 quaters if betting 5 quarters per play).
So if ones main concern is really chasing that Royal Flush its a lot easier to just hit 5/5 in keno.

And then there is the pick 7: If the Royal Flush is about 41,000 to 1 that you will hit it, if you go for similar odds in Keno that would be catching 7/7 on a pick 7: the odds of making 7/7 is 41,000 to 1, but it pays 7,000 credits back for each credit bet: betting 5 quarters per play that would be a win for 35,000 quarters with similar odds ($8,750)

Thats not to say that keno is the way to go... just that comparing the odds its not that bad for hitting the big wins now and then.

I'm not a VP player at all, so my knowledge is extremely limited. I guess my question is this: I've read many times, depending on the particular game, that VP is almost a break-even game over many, many spins. If the best payoff in the game pays off at such paltry odds how can this game be so close to break-even? I'm not at all disputing what you say, just curious..... Does it have to do with hitting the royal on a progressive? Thanks........:peace:

You have to add up ALL the possible paying hands to get the total return on the game. You get a Royal every ~41000 hands but you only get paid 4000 to 1, but that's not the only paying hand. The payoff on every paying hand is FAR lower than your chances of hitting that particular hand, but once you add them all up, you get the 99%+ return on the game.

    Example:

Thanks Wade. I guess I wrongly assumed most of the other payoffs would not add up as much as they do. Good chart, I appreciate it.:peace::beer:

When I gamble at home I only play keno. I have streaks where I win everytime I play and others where I can't win for a month. My biggest win was $400 off a $0.25 bet.

The other day my buddy hit a hot streak and won $1400 in about 30 min of play.

This weeknd we all went out to eat at a chinese resturant and got a fortune cookie. After dinner we went to the bar and my friend put $1 in a keno machine, picked the lucky numbers from his fortune cookie and the very first push he hit it for $250 bucks.

Is video Keno like slots in the sense that all 20 numbers are pre determined the moment you hit the "GO" button? or are they determined as they come out?

Do you mean those monotonous dingdingdingDINGDINGDINGers that I have to listen to when I play video poker in early morning?

Best strategy is to get an hour of extra sleep. You'll lose less and I won't have to move to another bank.
