I've found this new game to be pretty amusing and it's one where you can win in the $1000s with only a $10 initial bet.

Anyone know casinos that have this on the strip, mainly from Cosmo to Harrah's on both sides of the street?

Not sure about your question, but you may want to look at the odds of the game. I deal it on ocassion at the casino I work at, we surely take in quite a bit more than we pay out

Mississippi stud has a house edge of 4.91% according to the Wizard of Odds. Not a good game from that perspective, but it sure is fun to play. (it probably didn't hurt that i hit two flushes on my very first two hands of this game paying 6 to 1 ...i've been hooked ever since, although I've put a hell of a lot more money in than what i've taken out! :)
As for places to play, it is in a LOT of CET casinos now. In Vegas i have played at Paris, Bally's, Planet Hollywood, Flamingo, Margaritaville, and Harrahs. Best win...Bally's ($100 buy in, walked out with $1200), worst loss...Planet Hollywood ($120 buy in, walked out $500 down)

It's double down stud poker basically. Those who like let it ride and the odds it pays would like Miss Stud too. It's the odds payout that make you want to over look the fact you are going to lose many more times than you win, but that win is usually very satisfying.

Bally's consistently has it in the afternoon/evening for $5.

But it's not $5. Like most of the poker based table games you'll end up playing a minimum $20 a hand if you want to see the conclusion. The advantage to this game is you can look at your hole cards for only $5, but you cannot check any round. This is where let-it-ride has the advantage, where you can see the whole hand thru and only pay $5 by the end for a bad hand. (not including any circus bonus bets).

PH, Flamingo and Margaritaville for sure.

I love this game. First time I played was in Nov 2012 and my father hit a four of a kind for $2k and I made $500 over the session...next time I played was in March 2013 and I hit a four of a kind for $1600 and my father made $400. Craziest thing... our four of a kinds were at the exact same table in the same table position at Margaritaville 5 months apart!

I never win at PH though...

That 4.91%, while correct, is somewhat misleading as it is based on a ratio of your theoretical loss to your initial bet. Based on the average TOTAL amount bet per hand, it doesn’t look nearly as bad.

    In the Wizard’s words:

“The lower right cell shows a house edge of 4.91%. On average, the player will bet 3.59 units per hand. The ratio of the expected loss to total amount bet, what I call the "element of risk," is 4.91%/3.59 = 1.37%.”

I’ve been fooling around a little bit with this game too in anticipation of my trip this weekend (it’s been a while since I’ve added a new game to my repertoire). It seems like fun. But the swings are pretty crazy!

Not to hijack…but if anyone also knows whether or not Wynn/Encore, Venetian/Palazzo or any of the other “northern” strip properties have it, I’d be interested to know.

I played at MGM back in February. As I recall, I lost every nearly single hand until my $1000 buy in was gone!

    Nicky...thanks for the practice-link!
I'm not sure what the wizard says, but I've been practicing with the following strategy, and it has (so far) been consistently good (about 400 hands or so):

Any pair or any Jack or better - stay in until the end. Bet triple on any pair of 6s or better.

First 2 cards 6+? Stay in unless first 2 dealer cards are less than 6 and you have no pair.

First 2 cards of less than 6? Fold, unless they are suited & reach. Fold if any card breaks that and you have no pair.

First 2 cards are both Jack+? Double-ante on the first bet. Single ante after, if you don't pair-up.

So far, this strategy has not failed to win for a session - and I limit my session bankrolls to $200, playing a base bet of $5. I stop a session when I'm up exactly $100, $200, etc. I have yet to lose $200 for a session.

Perhaps I've just been lucky, but hey - as long as that luck transfers to a real table next time I'm in Vegas, then why not?
I'm planning to play this on the next trip!

Oops! I just played again & I lost $200! Ouch. Oh well - It has still worked every other time, so I'll keep playing around with it to see what happens.

Your strategy isn't bad topcard, but it definitely isn't optimal. It might not be too leaky though. Raising 3X with two high cards to start is a moderate leak unless they are suited, then it's a minor leak according to the Wizard's page. You should 3X preflop with all pocket pairs though since there is enough equity with 3 community cards remaining.

When it comes to games like this, I just tend to run for a strategy from the Wizard.

I have a link at home to a Mississippi stud practice game which yells at you if you don't follow basic strategy. I'll post it tonight.

I've though about trying this game my next trip to the casino, but as other have said, the "swinginess" of this game is a bit of a turn off.

To the OPs original question, I can confirm Miss Stud at Ballys, Flamingo, and PH for sure. Just one table at each that I saw. My guess is that most casinos have a single table of this going.

    The game is like crack.
The first time you play it will pay, pay, pay.
Then all it does is take, take, take, take, take, take.

paraphrasing from a post I saw a couple years ago

Also, TopCard's recommendation of chasing a small straight flush (like getting dealt 3h,4h) is also non-optimal. This is just too hard to hit and you have no other outs except very rare two pairs and 3OAK. It's best to fold these right away.

There really isn't any reason to ever bet 2X your bet. Either you're betting 1X (the minimum) to stay in the hand chasing something (you'd bet less or zero if they'd let you), or you're betting 3x (the max) because you know you're going to get paid (or you're on some straight-flush/Royal draw.) There really isn't a middle ground of the reason you're playing or raising.

I saw that on the Wizard's site for Miss Stud optimal strategy.

I just started doing that as I was playing around with the practice program. It seemed to me that if you had two cards that could pair for a win, going 2x on the first bet was a way to optimize that increased possibility.

If one is staying in on a 'high card' with 1x ante, it seemed to make sense to go 2x with two high cards.

But, once again, the math has proven me wrong... as it has with the suited-stringers on 2 low cards.

Whenever I have 2 overs I play 2x on the first bet. If I hit another over but not pair I continue to 2x on the second bet. If I pair, obviously it's 3x and if I get an push or under card I go back to 1x.

It's a gamble even though the odds aren't for you, but then again, I'm sitting in a casino gambling. And once you take your money out of your pocket, there isnt' a game that the odds aren't against you. Remember, in the short run, odds or house edge mean nothing. The thrill of a nice win means everything.
