Husband and I go to Las Vegas about once every three or four years. Not big enough gamblers to get any comps but I do slots and video poker on small scale. We have stayed at a variety of hotels in the past. Right now thinking to do a nicer room or suite in a medium hotel instead of a standard room in a luxury hotel. Any ideas out there we might not know about that we would like to try? Needs to have a casino as hubby goes to bed and I stay up and gamble.

You need to provide a bit more information.

Where you stayed before, what you consider luxury in Vegas vs medium.

As to nicer room, again, what does this mean to you?

Budget in past? budget for this trip?

    Vdara is a great hotel.

I agree because some of so called std rooms at the luxury hotels are (IMO) much better than the "nicer rooms" or even the first tier suites at a "medium hotel". A little more info and I'm sure you'll get some great suggestions:wave:

Yea, you might enjoy Vdara. The suites are far superior at a great price, and it's in a great location. Check out the City Corner Suite. There is no casino there but it's 20 feet from Aria. I would feel comfortable walking from one to the other alone.

Also maybe THEhotel at Mandalay Bay, but those are a getting a little outdated right now though, but the rooms are big and nice!

Or how about Venetian or Palazzo? I know it is luxury, but their standard rooms are a suite.

MGM has some new suites. The executive suites are a pretty good deal usually. A little larger room with a couch. Or maybe a Tower Suite at Mirage, but that is going to cost you probably double what a suite would be at Vdara.

The problem with a suite in a midlevel hotel is they usually aren't a great deal...

I'm not a huge fan of the Executive Suites at MGM. Though I haven't been since the remodel, I was put in them a few times when they were the Bungalow Suites, and they wouldn't have been worth paying extra for. They're not true "suites", just larger single rooms with a sitting area to the side. I'll agree with what's been said elsewhere that a "suite" in a mid-level hotel really doesn't get you much value compared to a "standard" room at a place like Bellagio or Aria; the rooms just aren't that much nicer/bigger, and you're not getting much more in the way of amenities.

the problem is the base level "suites" at hotels these days are just bigger rooms. in order to get into the true suites at a medium hotel, you're looking at a lot more money than a basic room at a luxury hotel. and you don't get the perks of staying at the luxury hotel. so it doesn't really work out so well usually.

I like the Spa suite at the MGM for a really low end suite. The Mirage Suite, which is the lowest end suite at that property is also nice, and has the benefit of feeling more like a suite. It's all one room, but kind of broken up, plus it has two bathrooms.

Agreed. I've stayed at the entry Suite offerings at The Palms and NYNY. Both are just big rooms. In the NYNY corner, it does have the 4 person Hot Tub, so it really takes up a huge part of the square footage of the room.

The Tower suites at Luxor are true suites. That might fit into your "medium" suite price range.

I dont think OP will be to happy to move from a luxury hotel to one of the worst hotel on the strip. Also a tower suites at luxor is about the same same size as a regular room at Encore or V/P so that seem like a horrible advice to me.

As other have said, better to stay at regular room at a luxury hotel.

    Here we go again.

OP asks a vague question - and we fall all over ourselves trying to answer it, with no return visit from the OP.

Just gotta laugh.... and not slamming anyone for trying to help.

We have stayed at Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Paris (special deal you had access to free drinks and snacks in the evening), MGM, Bally's, Treasure Island,( Imperial Palace like 35 years ago.) I guess I consider the hotels like the Venetian would be a luxury and MGM or Paris would be mid priced. Maybe different definitions than some of you have. Hope this helps clarify. Thanks for the advice all of you. It doesn't have to be a suite as such with two rooms or anything. Just a nice room with maybe a view. Had a great room at Mandalay Bay last year we got as part of a package. Too soon for fall promotions or packages. There seem to be quite a few summer ones out there! Sorry I am slow to be specific, but had to be out of town and computer time was limited.
