Well, here's hoping they can make a go of it. Their little diner had always served up good food (and good customer service), and didn't always get much respect. The ham steak & eggs breakfast was one of my favorites.

I agree; I enjoyed many a good breakfast there and found the food and service very good. their 24/7 ham and eggs breakfast was great! I also enjoyed staying there.......nice room for a solo at a good price. I'm hoping the restaurant will be open for Cinco de Mayo weekend!

Loved the ham special. Would walk down from Cabana Suites because I prefer Spike's breakfast to El Cortez cafe. Looking forward to doing it again now. This is good news. Maria is a great waitress - hope she is back.

Totally agree ... Even when we used to use an LVA 2/1 coupon, she treated us like we were her favorite customers.

Kind of puzzled as to how this is supposed to happen if things have already been stripped out:

You know I just stole the coffee and prime rib recipe! :poke:

Actually, I keep reminiscing every time I go out for breakfast and they bring the little containers of coffee creamer. Gold Spike had "For Your Coffee". It didn't have a brand name and it wasn't half-and-half. It was just........For Your Coffee.... LOL

Still scratching my head on this one. Are they letting the gaming license go and why would they do that? I was under the impression that was a valued item.

Just came from Gold Spike and pleased to repoirt that Maria was back on duty at the Grill. The north and back entrances are in use, but the main casino doors have been blocked off and the casino area is dark and barricaded with sheets. The wall along the bar that housed slot machines now has lounging chairs, lamps and tables coffee-house style, and they were working on setting up some kind of bumper-pool types of games in the area in front of the diner. Surprisingly busy for the circumstances. Did not eat there as I had previosu plans, but will eat there Friday morning and report back with any changes....

I assume they will simply move in a trailer casino like all the others. Just wondered what Tony H's move might be. It's all very interesting.

Just had breakfast there, and it was great. A little more expensive but still a bargain. Maria and the rest of the wait staff were the same, and they said they're very happy to be back.

It's so hipsters can lounge around while getting their drink on... ironically of course?

Yes, they still have it, but was $6.99 now. That is what I ordered and it was still worth it. They didn't have any table advertisements for specials out, so there was no prime rib one from what I could tell.
