Just happens to be the hot topic right now. Many people don't understand it and have many questions. I expect many posts when Linq opens up...same with the redo of Bills, redo of Sahara, the Park. Anything new brings out the questions. I am using about $1400 in free stuff from myVegas on my upcoming trip...so no complaints here :wink2:

We had a sort of similar issue on a fairly large board (100,000 members) that I administrate. We ended up modifying the 'new posts' button, so it didn't include that one forum in the new posts search. It is still there, just have to navigate to it directly.

Thats just what you want... but what about what other people want?

And that brings up the problem of where do you draw the line? What forums should be included and what ones should be excluded?

    As an example:
Not everybody is a poker player, so why is The Poker Room included in the general search?
Not everybody bets on sports or is a fan of sports, but the Sportsbook forum is part of the main search...
If the Non-Vegas Chat forum is for talking about things that aren't related to Vegas on a Vegas forum, why should that be included in the general search?
I'm already married and plan to stay with my wife my whole life, why is the Vegas Weddings section part of the new posts search?

Right now there are a lot of MyVegas posts, but it'll likely die down over time... just a lot of people are still new to it and so they have a lot of questions.

I would second that. Whatever people want to talk about is fine but I'd rather not see every other thread in the new posts button about My Vegas.

I think that the problem ends up being the board gets flooded by the exact same questions/statements regarding the game over and over, and these are questions that could be answered in 30 seconds by searching instead-

'how do I level up faster/get more chips??'
'what game do you play to get more chips/level up faster??'
'can I purchase more than one of a certain reward??'
'what happened to (popular reward not currently available)??'

for the most part, those are all valid queries, but when they're asked over and over again, it gets to be a bit much.

This is exactly what has been the discussion behind the scenes here. I know that for people who don't play MyVegas, it's annoying to see those threads so often, but it is a new game, etc like Auggie said. I don't expect it will be around forever.

I have been lookin at our options for not including it in the New Posts search since you PM'd me about it, but I haven't settled on anything that will work reliably. I can take up the search for an answer again when I get back from my trip, but no way I'm going to get it done before then. Sorry.

Split10's - Did you use a hack for VB to do it? I'd sure love a PM letting me know which one you used. Or did you do it custom? That's above my pay grade. :wink2:

I thought this link would work, but I can't seem to get it to work reliably for me.

    https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=51

JW - There's a whole section about it. Short answer, it's a game on Facebook you can play to earn points redeemable for MGMResorts rooms, shows, food, etc.

I've been here for years and have never used the "new posts" function. I just open the fora I know I want to read and check out the new posts manually:peace: It's really easy to ignore the topics that don't interest me that way:thumbsup:

I have not had a difficult time disregarding the myvegas posts, even in the new posts. I don't expect to be interested in every post and I use the "hover" feature to screen out those I'm not interested in. No big deal...

FWIW, after seeing this thread, I did a quick run down of the 25 topics of page 1 of the new posts. Exactly 1 of the 25 topics listed was from the myvegas forum....

If the bulk of the conversations are in it's own forum, I can't understand how the board is overrun. I get annoyed when the comp forum is all about Mlife kvetching but I just mark the forum read and move on to something else.

It's not hard to manage your way around these posts, similar to walking the Strip and avoiding the porn card personnel. There are a few bottlenecks, but it only takes a few more seconds to move forward.

This promo will end at some point and these threads will hopefully be replaced by CET Great Race 2013 Threads!!!

Since I till this post had never even used the new posts feature I decided to check myself, as personally I really like MyVegas but seldom check the VMB portion, in the top 25 the only post was on this very thread. Matter of fact there was what I would call a great balance of topics and the forums posted on which is a great thing for any website to have as it helps draw in ad dollars to support the site.

I will look at this when I get back (assuming MyVegas is still a thing then :wink2:). I'm not sure I want to hack around the code for just a couple threads. I'll have to see how complicated it is and how it might impact other aspects of the board.

Woo-hoooo! Now I can afford to get the extra cheese! :haha:

Yep ... I'll second that method of just reading the topics that interst me.

I guess I can. I'm sure the rest of the group won't mind waiting, right? :evillaugh

I'm just not sure how many people really want this modification. I've only been asked by one person and the support here doesn't seem overwhelmingly in favor.

I'd rather focus our attention to improving other things if that particular tweak isn't actually necessary. But right now all I can see are lights and all I can hear are the sweet sounds of the casino. I've got VegasBrain.

I'll pick this discussion up when I get back home in 2-3 weeks.
