Just called them to confirm a few things and they asked if I would be willing to take a survey...sure why not.

    3 Questions were asked

    1) Are you aware all strip properties charge a resort fee
    2) Are you aware that the Golden Nugget does not charge a resort fee
    3) When looking at a hotel to you add in the resort fee when looking at comparing daily rates

My answers would have been Yes, Yes, and Yes.

Thats awesome, thanks for posting that. I needed a laugh. Nothing like subliminal advertisement disguised as a survey!

But being from Houston I'm no stranger to the fact that Tilman Fertitta is a genius.

    Same survey

I called the GN today to register a second room... Same survey opportunity, same (almost) answers - is it true that each and every property on the strip has a fee?

Everybody should call and select yes, yes, yes on this survey. Maybe we can send the right message.

No, it's not true, but I believe Casino Royale and the Elara (technically on E. Harmon, not LV Blvd) are the only remaining holdouts.

Maybe they are considering introducing a resort fee, that would be a huge mistake in my opinion, I am staying there from 29th April for 8 nights and chose that hotel because there was no resort fee.
Resort fees are robbery, nothing more, nothing less.

I think it is a bit of everything mentioned:

Advertising that they don't charge resrort fees & getting a feel for if they might.

I tell you what, CET getting away with charging resort fees right on the heels of a massive campaign touting how they don't chare them would be the nail in the coffin for no-resort-fees. I afraid if they are successful and the masses don't vote with their dollars then there will be nothing keeping anyone else from thinking resort fees are just a cash cow.

"Resort Fees" are simply a profitable way to get around deceptive advertising regulations. IMHO hotels should be required to be honest and upfront about how much their rooms cost. But I am a dreamer....

The other problem is that they are a hurdle for us comp seekers since now every comp room I have is increased by the resort fee. It effectively did away with free rooms for us lower players at most properties. Some Vegas weekenders don't think anything of that since they probably only pay for 2 or 3 days of resort fees but for those of us that like long trips that really adds up. What I could once get for free or nearly free has now increased by $200 or more for a 9 day trip.

I intended to stay at Treasure Island until I realised my 8 night trip would cost an extra $200 plus tax ----------- that is why I went for the Golden Nugget.

I really hate resort fees. But most people love Vegas so much they'll book and stay at their favorite properties regardless. And the casinos know it.

And I haven't looked at any numbers, but assume HET and others figured out they'd gain more in revenue by charging them than they'd lose in those who vote with their feet.

If everyone refused to stay at properties that charge the fee, they'd go away. But now, that's almost impossible to do!

    Added question

Just got off the phone with reservations and they have added a fourth question. Would a $ 9.99 Resort Fee that included internet. gym acess and free local calls be worhwhile to you?

$9-99 sounds reasonable but many people don't require the internet, gym access or free calls ------------ they would have to pay the fee anyway.

Treasure Island often waives its resort fee if you ask either before or after check-in. If you use the services (wifi and such) they charge you the fee. This only applies to rooms booked through their advertised optional resort fee promotion. Check twitter, their website, facebook, etc. They only charge the fee when booking with orbitz, travelocity, etc for the most part now.

I had the same 4th question yesterday, but they also included two bottles of water. Sounds like a great deal to me. I hope they proceed with it.

While I still don't care for them, GN is at least (apparently) considering offering something of value for them.

Taking the other side of the issue, I guess if I owned a major Vegas property and was one of the few not charging resort fees, I'd have to look at my competitors closely. And once I saw the fee wasn't hurting their business any, and perhaps actually increasing their bottom lines, I'd be tempted. Just being honest, here...

Do I like them any better now? No. But I understand. And just factor them into the room rate when making comparisons.
