lets say you have some old, outdated degree but you don't want to bag groceries, flip burgers, or any of that kind of thing...

And that right there perfectly summarizes the current state of the economy. Very very sad for those without work and health insurance.

I've been worrying about my job security in recent days. Maybe starting my own business instead of relying on some company to support me, because we all know what happens when said company one day decides they no longer have a use for you.

Sell kandi (jewelry--not drugs) on the strip during EDC week.

I've actually considered making a career there selling bottled water on the strip for $1.

I doubt it's easy! I would guess it's easier if you have a speciality like you could get a corporate job. But I'm guessing a ton of people apply to the low skill jobs, since Vegas is sort of a transient town. But you have to remember Vegas isn't in great shape, the casinos are in debt, I don't know stable anything would be.

The job market is just terrible. There are jobs, but you need skills. You would be much better served to update your skills IMO.

I work at a corporate office of a large retail company, and we are growing like crazy, and we are always hiring people but it's extremely difficult to find a worker it seems. We are talking a job with good pay and benefits and we can't find competent people to take them. Also you have to stand out, dress good for your interviews, get your resume checked out, if you get a job show up! don't take days off every day.... It's little things that people can't seem to get right.

I agree with what heather says.

Lots of people have the misconception that job fairs are the places to actually get jobs. They are not always what they say they are.

I have never known someone who got a job from one but everyone I know that turned in personal information has had it sold to a 3rd party. thats what they, information gathering places.

People show up expecting work and dont get it, go home and collect another unemployment check and complain about how the economy sucks.

either this or they make one general resume and send it to every employer in town qualified for it or not and then wonder why they never get called back.

here is a great guide from craigslist on how the get a job. i have used this guys info with great results.

If you actually want to work, it's not that hard to find work. There are so many people that interview with long lists of cannots and demands. Be flexible and friendly. Mileage may vary in other parts of the country, but in Vegas, it will take you further than most degrees/education, prior experience, etc.

definitely agree with the growing theme that the only thing harder than finding a good job, is an employer finding a good worker. :peace:

    Finding a Job

    Beejay

When my Niece and Nephew decided to relocate she went out first and found a job because she had Medical billing background. She found a job fairly easily.

Then my nephew who was a machinist went and it took him a long time. However once he had a shuttle bus driving position they loved his work ethic and in no time he was the supervisor of the drivers. Now he is trying to hire drivers and it's very difficult to find people who can pass a drug test and have a valid drivers license.

It's easy to find work in Vegas. Degree or not. I came here in August of 2006 and applied for a Legal Office Assistant with Clark County. I previously worked at the same position in Ventura County for 14 years. However, I know getting county employment takes forever, I faxed resumes to jobs from the Review Journal on Friday and had interviews on Tuesday...was hired and was working within 2 weeks of moving here. Also, I do not have a degree, just job skills. I have now been with Clark County 6 1/2 years.

And as stated in an earlier post, if you want to work, you'll find a job. I was eventually hired after backgrounds and such for Clark County within 1 year of moving here. So you can find work, if you want to work.

If you keep hammering at it, you'll get a job (as they say if you are unemployed, finding a job, is your job). Good link! #1 be professional, it goes SO far.
