Comped Room---which one to choose

Hey y'all!

Need a little help here....Vegas next weekend meetin' up w/friends....they all got rooms @ Venetian, but since they only have a one bedroom suite, and I have comps available, I was going to take advantage of 'em this time....tryin' to decide whether to go with Harrah's or Bally's (South Tower) both comped, and just pay for resort fee, or if I should step up and stay @ Paris for $180 (inclu resort fee), or Caesars Palace, for $280 (inclu resort fee) all for 02 nights....won't be spending much time in the room...just crash n shower....the closest is Harrahs to Venetian, but crappiest of all...Caesars is nice (diagonally across the street) and pH being the furthest...any suggestions?

The walk from Caesar's to Venetian is not short, even though it kind of looks like it on a map.

 

Harrah's is so close.. that seems the most convenient. I guess it depends on how much you have to trek to the Venetian.

 

Well, I don't think they'll be spending much time in their rooms too...most likely, I'll be goin' over to the Venetian to hang out with my friends, and then, we are set for the day....I just heard and read a lot of negative reviews about Harrah's, and I'm no newbie to Vegas....mLife gold card holder, however, they just didn't have comped rooms for the wknd unfortunately

I guess I could settle w/Harrahs--$40 for 2 nites just paying for resort fee could be worth it...

 

Try Mirage - right across the street. TI is also an option.

 

OP has offers at CET hotels. Guessing he would have to PAY for Mirage or TI.

To the OP - Harrahs is the closest to V/P. I would go with that. As to resort fee, there are talks that comped rooms do not have a fee. YMMV.

Also, hope your friends are not too surprised to find out their 1 BR suites are really one big room at V/P. Nice, but not a suite.

 

Thanks for your recs...yes, I do have free rooms at CET....Quad/Harrahs are both comped, and with my mLife, I can stay at the Mirage for $290 for 2 nights inclu resort fee...seems a bit high in price for 2 nites, considering I'm a mLife gold....

Do you think they can waive the resort fee as a gold member for mLife?

@ this point, Harrahs makes the most sense, despite being a crappier hotel than the others...it's got its great location though...

I stayed at Harrahs the past two trips and enjoyed my stay. On my last trip I did the $20 trick and it worked. Have fun!

 

How were the rooms, based on your recent experience? Was it pretty dated? Were the rooms clean? And with the $20 trick, what room were you able to u/g to?

 

I stayed in the classic 2yrs ago and yes it was a bit dated but it was clean. Last Aug I booked a classic and $20 I was upgraded to Premium "newer" remodeled room and it was clean as well. No noise/security issue with either room

 

I don't feel that Harrahs is as bad as people make it out to be. We stayed there the past 2 years. If you don't already know the shortcut between Harrahs and Venetian through the Venetian parking garage...learn it...very handy when you are in a hurry.

 

Offers/comps are based on your ADT, and not on your tier level. Only time I ever heard of Mlife hotels waiving resort fee was for fully comped rooms.

With free rooms at Harrahs, closest CET hotel to V/P where your friends are, it seems like a done deal. Book Harrahs. No sense paying $290 for Mirage when Harrahs is free.

 

If you're Room is comp'ed at CET props there is NO resort fee. So I would pick something you don't have to pay for.

Take Harrahs for the proximity to V/P. Stayed in all different class of rooms at Harrahs. It will be fine for this trip.

What days are you going?

 

Not if you're Gold. I have comped rooms at 3 CET props the year. Rio and Bally's are comped with no resort fee because i booked before March 1st. I also booked Caesars comped, however, i booked it after March 1st and will have to pay $125 in resort fees. I'm just making it clear to members that if you booked a CET hotel after March 1st, even on a comped room, you will be paying the fees.....$10-$25.
To the OP.......i would stay at Harrah's and use the $20 sandwich, also, Harrah's is pretty close to the V.

 

I think it is important when people give opinions on hotels and restaurants they provide some points of reference. I stayed in a premium room at harrahs and was pleasantly surprised. It was clean, comfortable and updated. I would say that it reminded me very much of a Hampton Inn room.
For me the room at Harrahs was fine, it is the rest of the property that I dislike.

 

Although I think you should stay at Harrah's due to proximity to you friends, I do think Harrah's standard rooms blow. I once stayed in one of their "Executive Rooms' and it was dated and pretty bad. I would hate to have seen a room less than that! And when the best thing any posters can say about the rooms are that they were "not that bad" or that they were "clean"...that is not a ringing endorsement. People, rooms are supposed to be clean!

Take the free rooms to be with your buddies but when you check in ask for a complimentary upgrade with a $20 in your hand. Don't do the "sandwich" like you are up to something. You are not making an exchange in Berlin at the height of the Cold War. Make it obvious that this is a tip. Or even better, flat out tell her/him if you can get me an upgrade this money is yours.

I think the sandwich is silly and potentially embarrassing to both parties. BUT I am not saying it doesn't work nor am I hacking on those who do it. I just think being upfront in a town greased by money works better!

 

That's fair. To expand on "it blows". The furniture was dated...an old beige armoire? Did I spell that right? An old tube TV inside said armoire. Small bathroom, old carpet, and the worst pool of any casino on the strip.

Again though as OP sought opinion I still say for location near friends and because it is free...take it. Just temper expectations. I once stayed in the Manor Rooms at Circus Circus and those would certainly make Harrah's look like Buckingham Palace.

 

Quite frankly, I've been in every room type at Harrah's (stayed in executive suite and on my first trip to vegas, the premium room, but I've seen the other room types when friends have stayed there), and while in terms of Vegas standards, Harrah's isn't anything special, they're fine rooms. As someone stated earlier, on par with any national economy brand hotel (Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, etc.) type of room. They certainly can't compete with the glitz and glam of Wynn, Bellagio, Caesars, etc. but they're fine rooms. Also IMO there isn't much of a difference in Harrah's rooms to warrant paying for an upgrade unless you can get to at least a petite suite. No rooms in Harrah's offer a fantastic view of the strip, and the different levels of rooms really don't vary much until you hit the petite suite level.

Considering your situation, I would stay at Harrah's even if your other options were comped (unless you were getting Augustus or better at CP free). Paris isn't much better, Bally's south tower is worse than a standard Harrah's room other than they're bigger and you might get a fountain view. On top of that, none of those are worth the extra walking you'll be doing to meet your friends at Venetian. It's simply not worth the marginally better room to have to do all the running back and forth and/or having to pay anything out of pocket.
