We're thinking of taking a drive out to Pahrump on our April trip to Vegas.
I see where we can start on Blue Diamond Rd., and then branch off from there. About how long of a drive is it one way from the Silverton ?
Looks like the Nugget Casino has the "better" VP. Any other tips we should consider ???

I am waiting anxiously for the irreverent comments to start flowing....

That said, I hear the golf course out there is nice (Mountain Falls), and you can buy fireworks. You'd probably have to light them there though because those airlines are so narrow minded about explosives in your carry-on. There's also a ghost town out there too, Rhyolite?? I think. Have never been so can't recommend.

Unless you are looking forward to taking a drive I doubt there's much to justify a ride out there. I stopped in Searchlight once on my way to Laughlin, and after a few minutes was ready to get back in the car and keep going. I have a feeling I would feel similarly about Pahrump.

About an hour drive from Silverton.

I hear "Playing the Slots" out there can be a lot of fun.

Really hard to justify a drive out there unless you want to see the Brothel Museum. There is also a winery there. The casinos could be anywhere, nothing special.

Passed by twice on the way back from Death Valley. Stopped once at the Rhyolite ghost town - worth a 20-30 minute stop going into old structures and looking around. The ghost town is about an hour past Pahrump. Pahrump & Beatty have one or two open casinos with table games and pit games.

Most people travel to the park from Vegas by taking 160 to 372 which becomes the Death Valley Highway in California. If you drive through the park and head out by Furnace Creek, via Route 190, you'll hit Rhyolite. Beatty is a few miles further before you hit the return road to Vegas (back through N. Las Vegas - different from the in route).

I never golfed or engaged in any extracurriculars in Pahrump. Pahrump is over an hour outside of Vegas (1 or 1 1/4 hours). Beyond going to/from Death Valley, I do not consider anything worthy of a trip, unless you wanted to pet the bunnies.

After spending several hours in the casino every day, the wife and I like to occasionally take a road trip, to see the countryside. We have done Red Rock Canyon twice, as well as The Valley of Fire, and down to Boulder City. Never been down the road to Pahrump, and thought it might be a nice drive ... and then, we also spotted the ACG coupon for $25 free-play for new members (for each of us). :rolleyes2:

OK, it's a decent drive and you'll certainly see scenery we don't see back here in WI & IL. $50 in freeplay, I'd say go for it.

Just don't drive back after dark. The road can be a little dangerous.

You are better off taking a ride south to Lake Mohave and have lunch at Cottonwood cove, take in the beauty of the lake and mountains.

We all went out there last april- the drive was great, through the mountains. I am from southern MN, mountains don't exist here and are gorgeous to me. The winery and tour were awesome, and free. The Symphony restaurant was exceptional and very decently priced. 4 of us ate and had 2 bottles of their wine for around $60.

We took one of our golf, gamble and guzzle trips there. The golf course was very good. We also drove over to Death Valley to play the course there. That was interesting.
I always tell people on here that the drives to Primm, Laughlin, and Pahrump, are worth it if they have never driven through the desert before. The drives would be worth it just for the drives. I remember looking at the mountains on the way to Pahrump. They were almost glowing purple. Ah! That's where "purple mountain majesty" comes from I thought.

Why do I think this trip report of a "golf and guzzle" trip to Pahrump may be missing some details??

Wonder if it was tough to figure out why the hole was so close to the rough?
